With a long background in music, but not drums, I studied with Rich for four years and would be still were it not for unrelated physical issues.
There's no one I could recommend more highly, as a drum teacher...as a person. Studying with Rich is not only drum education, it's enjoyable.

Nothing makes me happier when I see them getting into great schools and acquiring lucrative jobs that make them happy, My students walk away with tools to not just play a musical instrument but a skill set strong enough to tackle any task.
I am equally versed in performing on and teaching drum-set (Pop, Rock, Jazz, Latin etc...), all the percussion instruments of the orchestra (ask about my state of the art recording studio where all of these instruments live), and hand drums including congas, bongos, Djembe etc... Instruction also includes how to play correctly so as not to develop negative playing habits. In the case that you have developed negative playing habits, how to correct them.
Emphasis is also placed on proper warm up techniques, stretching exercises, holding the sticks correctly, posture, plus drum kit "throne" seat placement, and correct stance, if playing concert snare or percussion. Independence is also developed through simple easy to grasp exercises. In addition, drum exercises are individually tailored to the particular needs of each student.
Chuck has also developed a special ear training method utilizing CD and MP3 technology. This method reduces the amount of time it normally takes to develop good listening skills. These listening skills decrease the time that it takes to learn new songs, and learn how to interact with other musicians.

I have been playing drums for more than 10 years and have been teaching for more than 3. Throughout that time, I have played across the country in New York City and even in Japan. I am currently a Jazz Studies Major at Sacramento State University. My goal is to make every student a well-rounded drummer who knows whats going on when they are in any type of musical situation. My favorite style to play is jazz, but I am well-rounded in all other styles such as rock, Latin, blues, funk, and country.
In my lessons, I base the material on the student depending on how advanced they are. If the student is just starting out, I will teach them the basics such as holding the drumsticks properly, basic rudiments, reading rhythms, learning about the hardware, and so on.
If you have any questions, don't be afraid to ask :D

Tom is a professional drummer that has been around for quite a while, and has tons of experience. He loves drumming, and I love to watch and listen to him going at it. He also loves to share and teach his talent and skills to others. His teaching style is very relaxed, and customized to the student's wishes. He stresses on the importance of practicing rudiments, stick handling, and playing with a metronome, but also on having fun and playing along with your favorite songs. Tom's fee is very reasonable and affordable for private lessons. He'll come to your place and helps you set up your kit and/or teach. I prefer to go to his studio where he has two drum sets. With Tom on one set and me at the other makes it a lot more fun and better learning experience,"
