In a relaxed atmosphere, the student and I are working together to advance their musical goals. Sometimes goals are reached quickly, more often we need more time and repetition to advance. Jeff provided a great overview for my daughter. Wonderful first lesson.
July 14, 2016
Jeff has been great with my 7 year old son learning Djembe and Bongos. Jeff gives clear concise instructions and practices the skills with him to work on during the week. My son is easily distracted and Jeff is very flexible and listens to what he has to say, using is as a way to teach and redirects. My son can't wait to go to class every week!

I've been drumming for over 17 years, and I have been teaching for 9 years. *** Lesson Details *** As a private music instructor for the past 15 years, I personally have been granted the opportunity to teach a wide variety of music students. I have taught students ranging in age from 6 to 65. I have taught students from various ethnic and economic backgrounds. I have taught students with various physical, emotional, and learning disabilities. Regardless of the situation, I have always approached each lesson with the idea that every student deserves my best efforts as a teacher. This is because I believe that everyone, regardless of age, cultural heritage, ability, or financial circumstance deserve the opportunity to participate in the best music experiences possible.
I believe that everyone has the ability to learn to play a musical instrument and achieve success on it if they possess the desire to do so. This is because music is a vital part of the human experience. Music has the ability to turn ordinary life experiences into extraordinary ones. Think of everyday events such as: waking up in the morning, commuting to and from work or school, going through the work or school day, going to dinner with a friend or loved one, going to a sporting event, watching a movie or television show, or working out at the gym. Now, picture what these everyday events would be like without the presence of music. Without music, these experiences would be extremely dull and we as human beings would not be able to full appreciate the wonderful moments in our lives.
As a music educator, my promise is to guide my students through the journey of learning to play music so they can experience the joy that it brings into their lives and the lives of others. I promise to help my students realize their full musical potential. I will always treat each student equally with fairness and respect, provide the best possible atmosphere for their growth, and recognize that each student is unique in how they learn and grow.

I realize it was the first lesson but I was a little disappointed that we spend nearly the entire time on housekeeping items, like canceling and re-scheduling appointments. I think that could have been covered with an e-mail or handout. I also thought we spent too much time going over the differences between acoustic and electric guitars - considering my age and background. Would have liked to see him demonstrate what I was asked to practice before the next lesson instead of just being told to refer to the workbook.

Dave had a relaxed informative approach, a knowledgeable teacher who took his time with me, a real novice.
I studied percussion under the direction of Robert Gibson durin my time in the Saugus High School band.
I have been playing music since the age of six. I was raised strictly on classical piano and voice lessons until I picked up the guitar just before the age of ten. By my senior year of high school I had learned how to play bass and drums, was writing and recording my own material, and had formed my own band, which is now called Athanasia. After passing around my demos on the Sunset Strip, I managed to land an audition with the then-forming band Five Finger Death Punch and got the gig on the spot. I played with the band for two years and ultimately earned two gold and one platinum record for my work writing, playing and engineering on their first two albums. As a result I have since been hired by numerous acts worldwide to produce, engineer and mix their records at my studio Nightmare Sound and have gained enough exposure as a musician to
be hired by several bands as a session player on numerous international tours.

Currently, I'm pursuing Masters Degree in Percussion Performance at the DePaul School of Music. I look forward to helping my new students achieve their goals. Beginner students will learn how to read music, how to properly hold drum sticks, learn basic strokes, drumming techniques, beginning rudiments. Intermediate and advanced students will learn how to improve their playing technique and virtuosity. They will also learn how to approach a specific piece of music; how to become expressive and creative with their skills.

My goal as a teacher is to maintain the enthusiasm students enjoy when they begin drum lessons. Every student hopes that beginning drum lessons is the start of an exhilarating and rewarding experience. I sustain this interest by empowering students’ musical improvement and achievement.
Lessons are structured around 8-16 week performance projects and feature a unique teaching method that maximizes each student’s musical capabilities. My approach utilizes video instruction and communication to enhance the traditional lesson format. I also integrate and utilize parents of younger beginning students (8-12) into the lesson curriculum. These methods optimize the student’s practice time between lessons and translate to student success!

If you’ve seen Ed play, then you’ve seen that he is incredibly dedicated to detail and precision. These qualities translate to how he explains concepts and teaches. I attribute so much of the success I’ve achieved on the drum set to what Ed has provided for me.

Ed, I would like to thank you, and commend you for the dedication and superior training you provided to my son, Sterling. Sterling joined your studio young and lacking confidence in his drumming. You had great enthusiasm to keep him inspired and motivated yet, held him accountable to reach your expectations. He gained incredible strides working with you in all aspects of percussion!!! Also, you were a strong, respected leader resident teaching the students at The Denver School of the Arts. I would highly refer you to anyone seeking a quality, talented and over all good person who truly cares about his students to join your drumming studio.
Percussion lessons will be primarily focused on coaching audition materials/repertoire, and techniques.
I can help students in the areas of orchestral percussion, marching drumline, mallet instruments, percussion ensemble, and more!

"Awesome instructor! My son's a little shy taking lessons on the drums, but Dave puts him at ease and Dave is so patient! Highly recommend.☺️"
Always challenging and keeps me informed about stuff that I need to know. Always relates things to other areas of percussion. Is really funn
y and nice. Always keeps me interested in what is going on during the lesson."
"Ben was very accommodating to my son's busy marching band schedule. My son had never taken lessons before, and he was nervous as to what to expect. By t
he second lesson, that was all just a thing in the past! Ben worked with my teenager to relax and really enjoy what he was playing. Even the teachers at school have noticed the improvement in my son's abilities after only a few lessons with Ben! If you need a lesson teacher, BOOK BEN!"
"I was honored to take a hand percussion lesson from David after hearing him perform with a major arena tour and a phenomenal jazz trio!. Although the sett
ing for the lesson happened to be intimidating, David was able to help me focus on my strengths as a player and showed me how to build on them. He excels at building confidence and inspired me to integrate world percussion into my work as an elementary school teacher. I highly recommend him as an educator who knows how to motivate and bring out the best in students. I look forward to taking lessons online in the future!"
"He's a good instructor, he teaches easy and simple"
"John is THE BEST. He is as knowledgeable as they come, inspires my daughter to become her best self, is communicative and flexible. Honestly, I am scared
he will become too popular — he's OURS! <3"
"Steve D. is an excellent teacher! My daughter is in the band at her middle school, and she started taking lessons a few weeks before school started. She
was worried about having to play a part on the bells that she did not know. Steve showed her exactly how to play it, and she was able to play the whole piece before leaving her lesson. She came worried, and she left confident! Steve is very patient, and is able to answer any question you ask him regarding percussion. He is very kind as well, and I would recommend him to anyone who needs lessons."
"Tareq is awesome!!! I studied with him for two years. He's a great musician and a great teacher. I loved taking private and group percussion classes with
"Kevin is a fantastic instructor!
I have been taking private lessons from Kevin for two years now as we'll as receiving instruction in Band for the last t
hree years. Kevin not only is an incredible percussionist himself, but he has a knack for being able to convey ideas to students that they can understand. New and better approaches to teaching rhythm, personalized lesson planning to suit a student's needs, and a vast knowledge of music from years of professional experience are just a few things that Kevin brings to the table. If you're looking for a percussion instructor, I would highly recommend Kevin as your first choice!"
