Drum Lessons in Rincon. Amazing Teachers.

Here's a little about me: I play sax for the band Fungus Amungus. I also play sax/piano in several bands in Hilton Head. I have previously been band/chorus director at Battery Creek, EP High, St Raphael Academy and a lot of schools in MA. I play piano, sax, drums, trumpet and other instruments... I have performed on stage with members of the Grateful Dead and the Allman Brothers, and I have opened for Violent Femmes, Spin Doctors, Rusted Root, Michael Franti and many more...

My teaching style is very flexible & hands on. My goal is to make beautiful music and I do this by taking technical exercises and giving them musical meaning. This means I focus on the ideas of time, vocabulary & dynamic playings, but within this still teaching essential technical exercises in order to create a well-rounded musician.

After each lesson I will email detailed notes, as well as any supplemental documents and/or music.

I teach various styles of music including, jazz, fusion, funk, latin,and rock. I teach rudiments and classical drum technique utilizing various method books in order to facilitate proper technique, coordination,chart reading, and overall musicianship.

I offer 24 years of experience playing, and 17 years teaching privately and as a public school band director. My curriculum focuses on technique, theory, style, and interpretation.

To develop quality drumming technique, an emphasis on playing position, grip, and sticking is incorporated in each portion of a given lesson.

The importance of theory and rudiments is outlined and taught with each lesson. A challenging assignment to improve technical ability and music theory knowledge directly correlated to the assigned repertoire will help students understand the structure of the music they are practicing.

Students will dedicate practice time to both rudimental drumming and set drumming. Demonstrating the highest level of performance and knowledge of a piece is the desired result. A portion of each lesson is also dedicated to students learning the various styles on the drum set.

Experienced teacher and performer. I teach at the college level all the way down to youngsters (5 year old minimum age for me). I LOVE music and playing the drums and I'd like to share my experience with YOU!

As a performer I've toured the country multiple times with various artists, sometimes playing to crowds as large as 7,000. I've been on dozens of recording sessions and I've performed in just about anything type of venue you can imagine.

As a teacher I've maintained a roster of private students for over 10 years while also teaching as adjunct faculty for multiple colleges in Massachusetts. Additionally, I have a music therapy background which has shaped and informed my teaching style.

My favorite genres are jazz, rock, R&B, country, metal, basically anything with rhythm! Lets connect and get you moving forward on your instrument.

I am very comfortable with all major areas of Percussion: Drumset, Concert Percussion, Marching Percussion, Latin Percussion, Steel Pan, Percussion Ensemble. I work to find effective ways to have people discover their hidden talents and show them how to build skills to play at whatever level they want.
