I will help develop and strengthen your rhythm and snare technique.
I am a Certified Beginning Piano teacher as well as an intermediate level teacher. I studied piano at Cerritos College of Norwalk, CA where I completed my teaching piano certificate. I completed my Bachelor of Arts degree in Music with a focus in percussion from CSU Long Beach. I have consistently taught piano, music and drums since 2002.
I have traveled the world to perform music. I have been to Brazil to study samba and its many different styles with the World Percussion Program of CSU Long Beach in 2006 and 2007. In 2012, I traveled to Colombia and Venezuela to perform with the band of Terratour, a humanitarian group. While touring, we collaborated with local musicians in different cities.
You may have noticed from my photos and videos that I'm a Carpenters fan. I sing, play piano and drums. The Carpenters are my musical
inspirations and that's exactly how I perform- with tender, love, and care. My friends and I learned many of the Carpenters tunes and collaborated with vocals, piano, steel drums, drums and other percussion joining together to form our band Close To You.
My teaching is focused on reading the notes (pitch), proper technique and rhythm. All are a part of the music-making process and should be equally strong. I start with young beginners when they can count, add, subtract and know the alphabet. The student must have the proper instrument and additional equipment, when necessary. The student is required to practice on a regular basis (daily is ideal). The student is also responsible for books, flashcards, and a metronome. If you need me to provide that, please let me know.
I am currently available for online or in-studio lessons. Please notify me if there is a day and time not available. When signing up a child for the first time, it is best to make a one year commitment so the child can really learn to work alone and develop self-discipline. Parental guidance and support is necessary for success. For adults, commitment to practicing is key.
Please notify me of the special need prior to booking lessons so I can accommodate.
You have all the ability and power to learn and be great- I'm just going to guide you all the way to your goal!
Michelle is a great teacher. She is patient, kind, and enthusiastic about music. My child loves going to class and hates missing a class (only when she's sick). She makes learning music fun but it also firm if the child doesn't meet the expectation. It's been a year since we started lessons and we couldn't be more happier.
June 15, 2018
Michelle has been very good at keeping my 8 year old engaged and interested in learning to read music. We are looking forward to many more lessons.
Drumset only. I can teach students a variety of basic drum grooves in a variety of styles and can help students understand how to incorporate fills into their playing. I can also teach reading basics.
I am overjoyed and grateful to say I have been playing music for more than half of my life. It has never stopped being the light in my day and now it is my hope to shed some of that light onto you or your child. I am a very friendly and fun teacher with a great deal of professionalism and patience, even more importantly I love teaching and music with a passion.
I have been playing an instrument since the 4th grade (cello) and, as I learned more about how music works, was slowly able to pick-up a greater variety instruments with an increasing degree of ease. In high school, I decided to pick-up the guitar just to "have fun and rock out". I joined a band, played in the high school orchestra, joined the high school jazz band and began to practice songwriting and cover songs. Still, it was not until after I took my first class on music the
ory that I knew how much I not only loved the thrill of playing music but the discovery of how it worked. With this experience I can show you or your child why learning an instrument can be not only an exciting experience but an interesting and enthralling one as well.
I have been teaching music for over 7 years and have had the privilege of teaching children as young as 4 to adults in their late 80's. I am a very attentive teacher who can not only help get you moving in the right direction but keep you on that path until your are a self-sufficient musician. A level of musicianship that simply means you can learn whatever you want on your instrument on your own, whether it be for business, pleasure or for mere self-improvement.
Through my own student career in private lessons I had the chance to study with graduates of the Musician's Institute (MI), the California Institute of the Arts (CAL Arts) and Berklee College of Music. This has provided me with an inside look into how and what each institute teaches, as well as a first hand look at the techniques and ideas that the great players from these remarkable schools have come to produce.
My formal music education consists of 2 years at Pasadena City College where I obtained my general Associates Degree (much of the studies included music) and a semester at California State University Long Beach as a Jazz Guitar Performance Major. Additionally, I completed a great deal of California State University Long Beach's teaching credential program (focusing on the teaching of history/social studies), where I learned strategies and theories of how and what to teach my students - making me that much more knowledgable of my craft. At Pasadena City College I studied with jazz/classical guitarist, Ron Berman, who has played with such jazz greats as Herb Ellis and Jimmy Wyble. At Cal State Long Beach I studied with jazz guitarist Ron Eschete, a former teacher at MI who has toured with the likes of Ray Brown, John Dizzy Gillespie and Jim Hall.
Most importantly I hope to show you or your child a new way to love and appreciate music. And to provide you with the ability and know-how to have the most fun on your instrument as possible.
*** Lesson Details *** Throughout my lessons, I always encourage basic skills including scales, sight-reading and technical exercises. But what I hope to give all my students is a basic understanding of music and their instrument, providing them with a practical ability to navigate the vast world of music for a lifetime.
Beyond these skills, I always have songs, styles and theory for you to work on but I am often more interested in what you as an individual want to learn on your instrument. Getting to learn concepts that you have chosen yourself will help encourage practice and will make the finished product all the more the rewarding.
I can custom tailor a teaching curriculum and/or style for any of my students: we can focus on learning songs, learning to read, how to write music, how music works, and even how to play specific styles of music (including funk, rock, jazz, Latin, flamenco, classical, country and blues). I also self tailor my own worksheets and set weekly goals with my students to help encourage practice, understanding and progress. For students interested in more advanced concepts, I can also teach ear training, music theory, advanced jazz improvisation as well as advanced playing techniques.
All this in a friendly and easy-going teaching environment.

I've had three banjo teachers over the past two and a half years. Judging by Jared's performance today, he's the best of the lot. The first banjo teacher expected too much too soon, and the second one started me out with the basics, as if I had never picked up a banjo before. Jared is starting our lessons at the right stage for where I am. He's patient and explains things well. If I had started with him two and a half years ago, I'd be a decent banjo player by now. Thanks, Jared!!!!!
Beginning to Intermediate Drum lessons and beats that are actually used in today's and yesteryear's "hit songs".
It's no secret, drums is the backbone or "foundation" to any hit song.
I break down drumming to its most basic rudiments so that you will grow by leaps and bounds instead of just crawling along.
You have to walk before you can run so getting it right initially is very important to moving forward and getting you playing your favorite songs quickly and accurately..

You got to know the rules 1st, before you can then break the rules. This is how you develop your own unique style. And it's what separates the Pro Players from the rest of the pack.
But even if you don't want to play professionally, maybe you just want to learn a few chords, licks, songs, for yourself, or to impress friends. That's okay too!
I welcome every level and style. I always learn something from my students. That's what music is all about. Learning & trading tips and licks from other musicians.
Bottom Line Is... I can help you learn and progress on your instrument faster...
Let me be the Music Coach to get you there!

My son enjoyed the lesson and wanted to practice right away.

Josh is always easy to be around and is able to form any lesson around what I wanted to do, as well as teach me loads of new ideas if I hadn’t planned anything. He has greatly helped improve my own production and give me insight into what professional producers do to set themselves apart. He’s great to work with and always in an uplifting mood.

Josh is an awesome teacher. He is patient and supportive and always comes up with ways to connect me to the concept he’s teaching. I asked to learn drums “the right way” so we spend a ton of time on fundamental exercises that i suspect are boring for him but he never shows it. He is always upbeat and positive and I enjoy our lessons a lot. Could not recommend him more highly.
I have been teaching drums for 9 years. Currently working with 2 music schools. Instead of playing in bands, i choose to teach in all my music life.

At UW, I oversaw all facets of the percussion area including teaching all applied percussion students, percussion ensemble, percussion methods and jazz ensemble. Before UW, I taught percussion, music theory, ear training and jazz improvisation at the University of Colorado-Denver. and the Denver School of the Arts (DSA).
I've also had the good fortune to perform with many musical luminaries including: Phil Woods, Terell Stafford, Joel Frahm, Bob Reynolds, Andy Laverne, Jon Faddis, the Louisvil
le Symphony, the CCM Philharmonia, Michael Rodriguez, Von Freeman, David “Fathead” Newman and Greg Osby.
My goal as a teacher is to maintain the enthusiasm students enjoy when they begin drum lessons. Every student hopes that beginning drum lessons is the start of an exhilarating and rewarding experience. I sustain this interest by empowering students’ musical improvement and achievement.
Lessons are structured around 8-16 week performance projects and feature a unique teaching method that maximizes each student’s musical capabilities. My approach utilizes video instruction and communication to enhance the traditional lesson format. I also integrate and utilize parents of younger beginning students (8-12) into the lesson curriculum. These methods optimize the student’s practice time between lessons and translate to student success!
Ed Breazeale is a thoughtful and innovative music educator. He is able to communicate his strong musicianship skills to his students.
August 9, 2019
If you’ve seen Ed play, then you’ve seen that he is incredibly dedicated to detail and precision. These qualities translate to how he explains concepts and teaches. I attribute so much of the success I’ve achieved on the drum set to what Ed has provided for me.
August 9, 2019
Ed, I would like to thank you, and commend you for the dedication and superior training you provided to my son, Sterling. Sterling joined your studio young and lacking confidence in his drumming. You had great enthusiasm to keep him inspired and motivated yet, held him accountable to reach your expectations. He gained incredible strides working with you in all aspects of percussion!!! Also, you were a strong, respected leader resident teaching the students at The Denver School of the Arts. I would highly refer you to anyone seeking a quality, talented and over all good person who truly cares about his students to join your drumming studio.

My musical journey has led me to play with so many amazing musicians and incredible bands over the years. You may find a list of recordings that I’ve played on under my discography at Better Beats Music. There’s also a selection of videos of live shows and prerecorded music videos, all of which include me on drums. Playing international festivals and tours on the big stage has been a dream come true, but teaching has also been an equally important part of my musical journey. My teaching practice helps me continue to be a better drummer and musician. More than that, I just love witnessing my students build confidence and gain a wider musical, rhythmic vocabulary, developing better skills playing the drums. I want to help my students find their musical voice by consistently working on musical goals, whether playing simple exercises, sophist
icated arrangements and everything in between.
One interesting benefit worth noting is recent scientific studies have shown that drumming reduces anxiety and stress. Now that’s therapy we all need! Rhythm is woven with in all aspects of life. Nature is full of seasonal cycles and macro/micro-rhythms. The art of drumming is an ancient practice with a fascinating history that has evolved over the ages. Drumming is also a primal expression we can all relate with. Everyone is a drummer in the dance of life. Consider the life pulsing rhythm of a heart beat or the rhythmic rise and fall of the chest from the respiratory cycle. Even while resting the lungs and heart continue to breathe and pump to a syncopated rhythm through the night. Rhythm is life.

"Alfredo is a great instructor and he has a true passion for the drums."
"I can’t say a five yet because it was just the first lesson. But, if it’s going to go as I believe it will be five star rated. Khalil was very patient wit
h my 6 year old and engaging. That coupled with a comfortable environment, I believe we made a great choice with Khalil. The fact that my son expressed that he had fun after the session is telling."
"I’m an adult student with a job and Jimmy has been very adjusting about rescheduling my lessons if the need arises. I bought a set of 5 lessons to get a f

"She is the best!"
"Mike Enriquez has been our son’s drum teacher over the past few years. In addition to helping introduce our grade school kid to the sweet, sweet sounds of
Led Zeppelin, The White Stripes and AC/DC, Mike has introduced my son to the idea of putting in time and effort to achieving goals.
We love the respect and sometimes superhuman patience Mike shows our son. He seems committed to the process of learning rather than the result. It’s an important distinction and we feel extremely fortunate to have found Mike.
Mike sets realistic expectations tailored to our kid, but the main focus is the love of the instrument rather than some cookie-cutter formula. If Duncan is having an off day, Mike takes it from where he is with no badgering or haranguing.
I’d recommend him to anyone looking to learn to play drums. Even if you’re an adult. He’s a great teacher.”
"Kay is awesome. My daughter loved her. She is very patience and kept Victoria engaged."
"Joan has been teaching our 5 year old daughter in our home and has incredible patience and finds ways to make it fun for her as well as educational. She a
lso was flexible when we needed to change our lesson times from a weekday to a weekend morning time slot and was always on time and very professional. I would highly recommend her as a teacher for a young beginner!"
"Ross is the best! He's a top young LA musician, by far the best musician AND teacher I've studied with. I feel very very thankful to have an hour of his t
ime every single week to learn from him. He's improved my drumming vastly in such a short period of time, its amazing!"
Playing in your high school band is a commitment that will give you many fond memories to look back on for the rest of your life. High school is a time to socialize and discover yourself, so if music is something you are passionate about, what better way to express that than by joining the band? Nothing is more rewarding than working hard with your fellow friends and bandmates to perfect your performance and finally getting a chance to perform it at a competition, football game, or other band-re …
