What makes my harmonica lessons unique is how I learned from a professional harmonicast who played internationally. I took 5 lessons on the 64 chromatic harmonica from him. The method he taught me,and what I'd like to teach new students is "The Mirror Method." I can also teach different tonguing techniques. I have played solos in large churches and several nursing homes. I've also played in weddings and funerals. I love playing and I would like to pass that on.

I provide a clear, concise, proven path to success at playing the harmonica. I focus on the most important aspects at mastering the instrument. We also have fun as well!

About Tim

Unlike other teachers that teach multiple instruments and add harmonica to their list, Tim's sole focus and expertise is the harmonica! Tim began playing harmonica at the age of thirteen. In addition to the guidance and nurturing he received from his musical family, Tim studied with harmonica g

I'm the type of student who tries to fit my practice time in between other aspects of my busy schedule. Tim is the type of teacher that understands that, and caters each session to the advances I've made, and the places where I've fallen behind. With me he always found a way to compliment me on any progress, and tips on where to head next.

Tim's approach is laid back, and yet deep in the knowledge that hes willing to share from decades of honing his craft. Never intimidating; always helpful and completely straight.

A top notch instructor in my book, well worth every minute spent in his studio. And generous to a fault, with knowledge and tools by which to learn!

Tim has been an awesome teacher and my skills are improving dramatically. He also answers the questions about what key, why and where did it come from. A very skilled musician.

"Tim's an amazing harmonica player and instructor. This is not a very common combination as many of the best practitioners of a given art often don't have a clue how to communicate to others what they do. Tim is one of the exceptions. He has a codified approach of teaching the instrument (including a successful textbook), and helps the students systematically learn all the techniques and theory necessary to enjoy this deceptively simple instrument. Once armed with the fundamental building blocks, Tim's students are invited to explore and expand their musical experience through developing their blues and rock-and-roll solo abilities as well as band/backing skills."

"Matt provided an awesome learning experience through down to earth, easy to understand explanations. Trying to figure harmonica playing out on my own for 2 years, I had heard of some of the concepts he taught with the music theory, but when he explained it, it actually made sense. Before this lesson, I mostly played along with the lyrics of songs that I know. After going over and learning the song "low rider", which is a new song for me, I am encouraged to seek out songs that have harmonica parts. One of my original goals in taking lessons is to learn to be able to improvise and I was given the opportunity to play the harmonica while Matt played the guitar. The hour was packed with information and harping and I am looking forward to my next lesson. If you are looking for an awesome instructor, I highly recommend Matt."

Harmonica Lessons in Los Angeles, CA

How amazing would it be to have a musical instrument in your pocket that you can pull out and play almost anywhere to pass the time, or entertain friends and family? When you sign up for harmonica lessons in Los Angeles, CA, that possibility becomes a reality!

Also known as a French harp or mouth organ, there are several types of harmonicas to choose from. Chromatic, orchestral, bass, diatonic, octave and tremolo are the most popularly used harmonicas today, with the primary difference being the type of sound you’d like to achieve with your musical endeavors.

The Benefits of Taking Harmonica Classes in Los Angeles

There’s no shortage of jazz and blues fans here in Los Angeles, and the harmonica is almost always a welcomed addition to these types of musical groups. After all, great harmonica players like Lee Oskar and Gary Allegretto found their place in the music scene right here in LA—a city of 4 million residents that exudes a passion for the entertainment industry.

In fact, there are countless opportunities for musicians in the City of Angels including music degrees from USC Thornton School of Music for serious players. However, if you’re seeking private harmonica classes near you ranging from beginner to professional level, there is no shortage of exceptional instructors in and around Los Angeles County.

Once you feel comfortable with your harmonica skills and want to perform in front of others, this vibrant city has plenty of opportunities, such as open mic nights at the Industry Cafe and Jazz Club or the World Stage Performance Gallery. Feel more comfortable playing outdoors? Head to Griffith Park or Pershing Square, where jam sessions and soloists are fairly common.

Learning with an Experienced Harmonica Teacher in Los Angeles

Finding harmonica lessons near you is as simple as logging onto your computer. We have dozens of dedicated harmonica instructors around LA, as well as those offering convenient online classes. You’ll have dozens of instructors to choose from, ranging from self-taught masters to those who are professionally trained and educated in music.

Many appreciate that our instructors have been thoroughly reviewed by previous and current students, which allows them to better choose one that is a good fit for their needs and personality. Quite a few of our teachers have over 100 reviews for students looking for harmonica classes in Los Angeles to consider.

Where to Take Private Harmonica Classes Near You

Our directory includes teachers from all over the country, including those available for online lessons via webcam. For instance, both Jordan M. and Matthew J. teach online harmonica lessons, and they have nearly 100 reviews each from satisfied students across the nation.

Another excellent option is Ronnie B., who offers harmonica lessons in-person from Redondo Beach and has been teaching since 2011. He has a wide range of stylistic methods that students can learn, and he also has experience teaching special needs children.

Whether you choose an online teacher or prefer in-person harmonica lessons near you, being on time is essential. Keep traffic considerations in mind, as you might want to avoid scheduling lessons that require you to be on freeways like the 101 or 405 during peak hours.

One great way to get to and from harmonica lessons in Los Angeles, CA is to use the widespread public transportation system. While the bus system is a good choice during non-peak hours, the Metro Rail train is by far the most reliable way to get around town in a timely fashion.

Practicing Harmonica in Los Angeles

You can purchase a good harmonica at almost any local music store and even top-of-the-line models are fairly affordable. Great places to shop for a mouth harp include Sam Ash Music Store on Sunset Boulevard and Salvi Harps on Westwood Boulevard. These stores are known to be extra patient with new musicians seeking the right instrument.

You can also find some excellent free resources such as videos, instructional books and sheet music at the Memorial Branch Library and the Los Angeles Central Library. If you want to get some inspiration for new tunes, check out K-SUN Blues radio station online or KJAZZ 88.1 in Los Angeles.

When you’re ready to show off your new skills, check out the local Jazz Meetup group which is popular with harmonica players, or at Lenny’s Big Blue Band Experience. Both groups host regular gatherings to talk music and enjoy jam sessions. Sign up for harmonica classes in Los Angeles today and start getting involved in the city’s exciting music community!
