As a young and enthusiastic harmonica specialist, I am fully committed to providing my students with the most effective learning experience possible. At 19 years of age, I have been playing for just over two years now but this has not hindered my ability to teach others how to play both funky and slow blues harmonica. I believe that it is more important to focus on the number of hours spent practising rather than the number of years invested in playing. With my passion for music and dedication to teaching, I strive to inspire and educate all of my students in an engaging and enjoyable way

Gordon L. began playing music at a very early age but didn't begin to learn the saxophone until he was in fifth grade. Gordon's interest in music grew when he began to work sound systems for bluegrass bands and eventually he started to experiment more with music. 	

	Soon after he would pick up guitar which would spark his interest in further pursuing his playing of music. After he bought a guitar, Gordon would practice relentlessly, sometimes for as long as 12 hours a day.  This passion for music allowed Gordon to go to a summer rock band camp in San Diego where he learned everything you need to know about touring, playing in a band, making a music video etc. 
	
	When Gordon reached his senior year of high school he attended Perpich Center of the Performing arts in Golden Valley, Minnesota. While he was learned he took classes in ear training and music theory. He also took a Taiko drum class while he was at Perpich. Along with learning new musical concepts, Gordon also learned how the music business works which got him more interested in marketing the bands he performed in. Gordon also was able to take guitar lessons at Macphail in Minneapolis under the apprenticeship of James Allen. 

	Gordon went on to Mesabi Range Community College where he received his Associates Degree. While there he played saxophone in the Community Band and guitar in bands he started himself. Gordon also took a banjo class, piano class and a music history class at Mesabi Range Community College. His main focus in the past years has been working with bands doing studio work, mini tours and CD production/marketing for those groups.

	After Community College, Gordon went to Evangel University in Missouri where he continued to study Guitar and Saxophone while picking up more woodwind and string instruments. Gordon took private guitar lessons and attended a Guitar Master Class at this college.  He also attended Missouri State University where he learned about theory and composition. He also played Saxophone in the jazz band. While he attended school in Missouri he relentlessly continued to play in multiple groups live and recorded a Ska/Reggae CD (guitar and saxophone tracks) with the band Bringers of the Dawn.  

	Gordon can fluently play and teach Electric Guitar, Acoustic Guitar, Clarinet, and Saxophone. Gordon is also willing to teach harmonica and banjo to those interested in learning. Gordon also has knowledge of several other cultural instruments with a background in piano lessons from high school and college. He got superior and excellent ratings at musical competitions for voice and saxophone in high school where he performed songs such as the Hungarian Dance #5 and Beautiful Dreamer.

	Gordon loves all genres of music and enjoys learning every style he can in order to improve his musical instruction. For the moment Gordon is pursuing songwriting particularly in the field of cultural music. Focusing on the students immediate musical needs, Gordon is able to encourage students to set goals in order to efficiently practice, concentrate and focus during the lesson time. Gordon is very patient with every student so that they refrain from becoming frustrated, overwhelmed or intimidated. Realizing the importance of music, Gordon makes sure that every student leaves each lesson having learned something new.

I've been giving private lessons since 2014.  Since my teen years I've taught bandmates and friends how to play songs (both originals and covers), as well as instructing various techniques on instruments.

I do my best to demonstrate proper technique and posture to help eliminate bad habits that lead to discomfort and potential injury.

I teach guitar, bass, drums, vocals, and harmonica.  All of which I've played for over 25 years.  (I'm happy to split lessons if you also want to learn multiple instruments!)

I studied music theory, composition, and tech in both school and university, and continue to do so during my spare time.  

I have had a few years of guitar lessons under several teachers, covering rock, metal, and classical guitar training with sight reading.

I am an ASCAP songwriter with a history of working part-time for an independent A&R company, and have a Bachelor of Arts in communication studies with a minor in web technology from West Chester University of Pennsylvania.  

I am primarily involved in rock, pop, and heavy metal, but have experience in many other genres.  
I listen to and play all kinds of music!  Classical, soul, country, jazz, electronic, dance, etc... 
I believe there's much to learn in all of them!
Anything my students listen to or want to learn is fine by me!

I enjoy teaching in a way to help other players love their instruments.  I believe the first goal is to give it your own voice, and then continue to gain the expressive means to make it an extension of your mind and body.  I will encourage you to grow your roots as you see fit.  

There's no embarrassment in being coached how to crawl, fall, and then walk before learning how to run.
Your goals will be self-discipline, resisting hesitation, and finding the will to tread the paths to improvement.

However, you ultimately need to have fun to stay on path! 
I tend to laugh a lot when I teach and encourage you to do so as well.  Laughing relieves our daily stress and associates positive attitude towards your instrument.
We all make countless mistakes every day, but playing a wrong note should just feel silly, not bring you anger or frustration.  

If you become flustered at a song, it's probably not important to flawlessly master it this minute, but to learn from the parts that are attainable and enjoyable.  
So unless you have a gig or recital, we can come back another time!

I will gladly help you maintain your instrument and can do repairs to almost anything regarding drums/guitar/bass, saving you money from costly repair shops!

If you are interested in recording, I can demonstrate how to use various programs to both record and edit songs, then how to mix and master them.  I can teach you how to get a "recording musician" mindset, and how to work and perform in a studio environment.  

I'll also give tips on playing on stage, working from local gigs all the way to the professional level.

Harmonica, also known as the "Mouth Harp" is a very easy, practical and fun little instrument for all ages! You can take this little gem of an instrument wherever you go. 

We will start with the very basics of how to hold the harmonica correctly, proper mouth position, how to achieve a nice, clean sound when blowing and drawing (putting it simply, drawing your breath back in, inhaling.)

The items you will need is a Harmonica in the key of C and a Lesson Book.
 Harmonicas come in various keys, but the key you will need to learn when signing up in the TakeLessons platform will be the KEY OF C.

Once you have signed up, either for yourself, or a child, I will then send you an email with the link where you can purchase the lesson book that we will
 work out of. Once you have a good foundation and are comfortable playing the harmonica, we can then determine what genre or style of music you would like to play. There are books that have a nice selection of songs that cover bluegrass, country, hits, gospel and more.

I've been giving instrumental lessons for 54 years and taught music k-12 in a Christian school. I am very relaxed, easy to get along with and love to have fun and laugh. I believe in keeping our lesson time relaxed and stress free. My desire is to help you learn whatever instrument you’ve chosen well enough to be able to play it for the rest of your life.
