We just had our first lesson and it couldn't have gone better. I have an 8 year old son with pretty severe ADD and Ryan could not have been more patient and kind with him, following him from one room to the next while teaching him. It's now three hours after the lesson and he has not put the clarinet down. He has been practicing all 6 notes that Ryan taught him. 😬

Ryan is teaching beginning piano to my 8 y.o. son, who's ADHD-squirrely and demands a mountain of patience from any teacher. Ryan is unflappable. He breaks up the lesson with different activities. First he'll teach a new piece, then sets aside the book to play a bass groove that my son can improvise freely over, then does something else again. Knows music inside and out and backwards and forwards, and the low-key, spontaneous approach works great for us.

I've been teaching drums to students of all ages since 2004. I'm available for lessons at my home studio or your house, and I'm great with kids! Within the first few lessons, you'll be able to play basic drum beats and play along to some of your favorite songs. At the same time, we'll work on good drumming technique, note reading, developing good timing, and more. I'm a very patient and positive teacher and would be excited to hear from you!

About Alexa
Hi, there! My name is Alexa and I would be excited to be your drum teacher. I've been teaching private lessons since 2004 and have helped 100+ students become better drummers. I strive to make my lessons fun yet productive. If you are a beginner, you'll learn all the foundations for good drumming such as technique and rudiments..... while at the same time learning to play along to your favorite songs. If you are intermediate / advanced, we'll identify which areas of your drumming can be improved to make you a more well rounded musician.

I went to Berklee College of Music and earned a degree in Professional Music in 2004 (GPA 3.9). I also attended the L.A. Music Academy from 1998-99 (now Los Angeles College of Music).

I'm a very patient and motivated teacher, and I'm great with kids and parents. I look forward to helping you (or yo
ur child) reach your drumming goals!

I was a beginner drummer looking to learn a new skill. Alexa was a patient and extremely talented teacher. I looked at many different individuals before choosing her. I was trying to find someone who was educated in music through formal schooling (To have a strong background in the fundamentals who could actually teach me as an absolute novice) as well as someone that is currently performing (who Rocks !). I have seen her perform a number of times and she is truly talented.
I felt so comfortable with her as a teacher (and a person) I also had her teach my youngest son (who was 11 at the time).
She never missed an appointment, and was always on time (very important for a drummer)

I carry a Bachelor of Music in Jazz Studies from Capilano University (Vancouver, Canada) and have over 10 years of professional music experience. I offer lessons to students of all ages and experience levels. Lessons with me are a collaborative effort... I will teach you what you want to learn and provide guidance as you strive to develop and achieve your own musical goals. Included in this will be the incorporation of foundational musical concepts (such as technique, groove, creativity, stylistic versatility, reading, etc).

About Bobby
Bobby Wiens is a drummer, educator, composer and arranger who has performed extensively on the concert stage and in the studio. Adept at a wide range of musical genres, he has led several bands which perform his eclectic stockpile of compositions and arrangements. He has also worked as a sideman with several prominent musicians including Jim Brenan, Al Muirhead, Brent Mah, Ellen Doty, David Blake, Nate Waters, Aimee-Jo Benoit, Meghan Gilhespie, William Ross, the Adanu Habobo ensemble, and many more.

Bobby was born on February 21, 1991 and grew up in Calgary, Alberta. He studied piano throughout his childhood before joining his middle school’s concert band as a percussionist at age twelve. During this time his grandparents bought him his first drum set and he fell in love with it immediately! He then began taking lessons and performing
in a variety of bands throughout middle and high school.

Upon graduating high school he continued to develop his drum set playing. He began his post-secondary studies at Mount Royal University before moving to Vancouver to complete his Bachelor of Music in Jazz Studies at Capilano University. During these formative years in Vancouver he was under the tutelage of Dr. Dylan van der Schyff, who is a significant influence on the way he thinks about, plays and teaches music. In 2017 he was awarded a grant which allowed him to live in New York City and undertake an apprenticeship with the great drummer and educator John Riley.

In addition to his performance based work, Bobby devotes himself to music education. Over the last seven years he has been heavily involved in the teaching of private studio lessons, clinics and master classes for musicians of all ages.
