Co-write with Nick, or bring in your compositions for expert feedback. Nick has decades of songwriting experience, and has helped many students find their own unique voice. Don't keep putting it off, try it out!
I've been teaching voice, piano and guitar lessons for fourteen years, and I love it! It's an enormous joy and privilege to be asked to help others in their musical journeys. I take my work seriously, but it's a pretty great job.
I am easy going and friendly, and when people come to me I try to understand exactly what their goals are. Some students thrive with a highly technical approach; some thrive in a less formal, more supportive environment; most do best with a mix of the two. I welcome students of all ages and levels.
I have a bachelor's degree in music from UC Santa Cruz, I've released two full albums of original music, and I am a founding member and producer for the bands Glamour Pony and Bygone Pecan. I've performed professionally in NY, LA, the Bay Area. My students have performed at clubs and concert venues, studied at sc
hools such as the Conservatory of Vocal and Instrumental Arts, Oakland School of the Arts, and UC Santa Cruz. And several have made beautiful, original recordings of their own. I enjoy working with children and adults alike.
My Priorities as a Music Teacher:
To facilitate an experience of music that is gratifying, challenging, or some combination of the two (depending on the student).
To discover what styles of music most interest a student, and to help them to cultivate the tools necessary to sing/play in that style.
To work with the student to figure out a practice routine that makes the most sense for their lifestyle and their musical development.
To encourage students, when they're ready, to bring their skills out into the world (through performing groups, choirs, open mics, recordings, videos, etc.)
To continue to learn about the student every lesson, in order that my instruction may be most effective to his/her progress!
Nick is awesome! He has been working with our two young sons, ages 9 & 7, for close to a year now and they have made tremendous progress. He is especially skilled in meeting them where they are at, whether they are tired or unfocused, or have too much energy, he is always willing to listen to them and find an access point into their world of child-like creativity. He also asks them what songs they are into and even has transcribed the songs for them so they can learn their favorites. A real good mix of formal training and teaching to the individual child. Nick is, above all, patient and kind. The two best qualities any teacher can possess. I can not recommend him enough to parents of children, or anyone for that matter. I might even sign myself up in the near future!

My kids really look forward forward to Nick's class. Nick seems to be so at ease and natural at helping kids with music.
I love to write and arrange music. It can be really fun if you have a few more tools.
Glynis has been reading music since before she knew how to read words. Her mother started teaching her piano lessons at age 3, and she started taking voice lessons at age 7. She learned from an early age to practice every day. She has taught all levels and ages of piano and voice for many years. Glynis specializes in jazz voice, but has a very strong classical and musical theatre background. She is an arranger, composer, educator, and singer. She received her AA in Professional Music from SWCC (school for music vocations), her BA in Jazz Studies: Vocal Performance at CSU Sacramento, and her Masters in Jazz Studies: Vocal Performance at the Bob Cole Conservatory at CSU Long Beach. She teaches college and high school vocal jazz ensembles as well as many private students in many areas of music. *** Lesson Details *** My teaching philosoph
y is to have a safe, positive, fun, and effective learning environment for all of my students. I believe it is important to be a well rounded musician, therefore I love my students to have a solid understanding of what they are doing. I strongly encourage all of my students to learn theory along with piano or voice, so they understand what they are doing. Each student is unique, therefore each student has a different lesson plan. I do expect that my students will practice during the week in order to grow, since this helps them reach their goals. I do let students pick most their own repertoire, since it is very important for them to be motivated and enjoy their assignments during the week. I can teach from early Baroque music to modern day and everything in between. Music is expression, therefore I believe it is very important for my students to love what they are working on.
*** Studio Equipment *** Lessons are in my house with my upright Yamaha piano.
*** Travel Equipment *** I can bring a keyboard, but it is necessary to have a piano or keyboard at home to pracitce on if you are a piano student.
*** Specialties *** I specialize in jazz voice, with a strong background in classical and musical theatre. I also specialize in piano, music theory, songwriting and arranging.
I consider myself a singer-songwriter at heart. learn how to express your thoughts poetically through music. Discover the importance of music theory in the realm of songwriting.

Neil is a great piano teacher. I took many years of lessons growing up and then stopped playing the piano for 10 years. I picked it up a year ago learning new pieces and hit a "wall" where I wasn't able to improve myself, so I wanted to find a teacher that could help. Neil has been great - proactively pointing out areas where I tense up or could use a different fingering, suggesting helpful sight reading pieces, and even helping me find a better keyboard for my own practice at home. He has a lot of experience and good advice.

I have the highest praise for Neil. I am an adult, and I studied for nine years as a child and started studying again about ten years ago and have studied with several teachers during that time. I work on some difficult pieces, and Neil can always explain to me how to play the passages I am having trouble with and make it seem easy. Also, he can demonstrate for me how something should be played because he is such an excellent pianist. I am so happy I found Neil, and highly recommend him.
Hello! My name is Rachelle and I'm a professional singer, songwriter and pianist from Victoria, BC, Canada. My background in music is a blend of Pop, Rock, Jazz Classical, Blues and R&B. I was featured in Keyboard Magazine’s November 2012 Issue as one of the 6 Best Keyboard Heroes to watch out for. Some of my performance highlights have been opening up for Nelly Furtado in 2001 in our hometown Victoria BC, and again on her "Loose" tour in 2007 at Roger's Arena in Vancouver, BC for an audience of 15,000. I've taught for six years helping foster my student’s talents and reach their musical goals. Past students have attained lead roles in high school musicals, toured in professional bands locally and internationally. When it comes to teaching music a “cookie cutter" approach is never used. I understand everyone has a unique learning s
tyle and I try my best to cater my lessons around each student's individual needs and goals. I was fortunate enough to grow up in an incredibly musical household. My dad toured with Bryan Adams as his guitarist and my mom’s worked with heavy weights such as David Foster as a professional vocalist. I was mentored by some of the best in the music business since childhood. I started learning piano at the age of four and started recording vocals for radio commercials at the age of six. The experience I've acquired over the years from recording in world class studios and touring internationally I believe has given me invaluable insight to impart with my students. I’m very passionate about teaching. Whether you want to learn how to play your favorite song on the piano or polish your vocal skills to sing professionally on a big stage in front of a large crowd, I’m your gal!
*** Lesson Details *** I understand that starting lessons can feel a bit scary and outside of ones comfort zone. It takes courage to try something new! I take pride in creating a fun, stress free learning environment, as I know it's incredibly important. I like to encourage having the best of both worlds when it comes to learning voice and piano. That means introducing some sight-reading as well as how to play freestyle, or without sheet music. What to expect upon your first lesson would be an easygoing assessment as well as something to take home and practice. I want to find out what your music tastes and background are and your personal goals, what you would like to get out of lessons. I tailor lessons around each student and their personal learning style. Piano students: The following is an example of what students can expect to learn, proper technique, sight reading, chords and popular song progressions, how to develop a piece of music, rhythmic training, ear training, how to play their favorite song(s). I use a combo of music books, Alfred Series, Bastien and Dozen a Day for technique and finger exercises as well write out music for students too on the song they would like to learn. I make a list of songs you would like to learn and also suggest some too that I think you would like and can also further develop your piano playing skills.
Voice Lessons: I’m a firm believer that we can learn a lot from hearing ourselves back on recordings. We are our own toughest critic. Recording ourselves singing helps us hear where our strengths and weaknesses are. It might seem a little uncomfortable at first listening back, I know! However, it offers fresh perspective for us to able to take our voices to the next level. I record using an app on my iPhone or iPad and encourage my students to record as well. If they do not have a recording device I email the recording to them to study along with the notes and exercises they are given to work on. This enables the students to witness their personal progress from lesson to lesson! It’s a great learning tool! The following is an example of what voice students can expect to learn: proper breathing techniques, how improve tone and extend their range, how to develop agility, pop riffs, and dynamic control, how to prepare for auditions, live shows and studio recording and much more!
What I expect from my students: To come to lessons with an open mind, a readiness to learn, to try new things and to apply what they learn each lesson to continue making weekly steady progress ☺ We only get out of something what we put into it right?
I like to be as flexible as possible, I understand that often times students have many other things going on in their lives whether it be sports, school or work etc. We go at a pace you feel comfortable with but enough where you feel you are getting a bit of a challenge each week to be growing. Let’s make some beautiful music together!
*** Studio Equipment *** Yamaha Mox8 (88 weighted keys). Acoustic Guitar, Sound System, Allen & Heath Mixing board, SM58 Mic, Mic Stand, Music Stand, Shecter Electric Guitar, Pro Tools 9, Duet Apogee
*** Travel Equipment *** I expect my student to provide a keyboard at least 77-88keys or piano. i can provide a powered speaker, sm58 mic, mic stand for practicing voice and performance.
*** Specialties *** Pop, Rock, Blues, Jazz, R&B, Classical
Rachelle is extremely personable, knowledgeble, and communicative in her technique training. She is really helping me to unlearn all the bad habits that have naturally developed over the years, and I'm already more cognitive of my vocal projection. She's at the top of her game. Would highly recommend her to ANYONE in search of the best instructor.

A fantastic teacher
In just my first few lessons with Rachelle, I learned more about the anatomical aspect of singing than I had in 10 years of choir/singing. She put great emphasis on the technique and skill aspects, while still balancing it with emotional connection. Perhaps my favorite thing about Rachelle is that instead of giving you songs to practice or telling you exactly what kind of songs you need to be doing, she allows you to bring in any music that you like and allows you to pick the focus of your lessons (whether you want to work more on breath support or volume or tone quality etc.). She maintains a flexible, laid-back and supportive attitude and has been a wonderful help for me.

Rachelle is a great teacher!
I took lessons with Rachelle for about 2 years and I'm so glad I did. I have improved so much vocally as well as performance-wise. It was a lot of fun to be able to work on my own favorite songs instead of purely classical. I would definitely recommend taking lessons with Rachelle!

Do you need help writing your first song? Or do you need feedback on lyrics or how you can take your songs to the next level? I have written over 1000 songs and released more than 80 of them. My songs have been placed on commercials and took me to the finals of the Guitar Center Singer Songwriter Competition in 2015. I love writing catchy melodies and would love to help you develop your craft!
Playing Music brings me such joy! I want you share that Joy with you by bringing that to our classes and helping you grow in a fun and encouraging way!
I'm a singer songwriter and have worked as a full time musician for the last 13 years. I graduated from Auckland University with Bachelor's of Performing Arts Majoring in jazz vocals, and am currently teaching at Musicians Institute in Hollywood.
Currently I still primarily work as a full time musician so I will only be teaching part time. I release original music, tour and play shows regularly both in and out of town. I was signed to Sony and Avex in Japan from 2007-2010 and still tour Japan once a year and spend much of my time in the studio writing songs for commercials and other artists.
I usually teach my clients at their home or online but depending on the time can also mak
e the home studio available. I work with singers, guitarists, and songwriters in a wide age range, assorted skill levels with a variety of musical goals.
I can teach you how to sing with better technique, how to play acoustic guitar and the Ukulele and how to write songs and performance technique in the studio and on stage as a vocalist. I look forward to meeting you and helping you to become a better musician!
Kat has helped me with more than my vocal technique, she helped me with my songwriting as well. She truly cares and is so helpful and so talented! She’s amazing!!

Kat is a very thoughtful and patient teacher. I started off with just Ukulele lessons but she soon encouraged me broadened my horizons and work on my singing as well. She's always very prepared and focuses as much on the why as the how, providing the context that fosters more wholistic learning. I highly recommend taking lessons from her!

"Hannah's awesome! I contacted her mainly for songwriting feedback but also for guidance while applying and auditioning for BYU's commercial music program.
She always went above and beyond in assisting me from songwriting, to voice lessons, to guidance with production and recording and navigating the local music scene. Hannah knows what she is talking about in both vocal and music techniques, as well as the business side of music. And even more important, she truly loves what she does and has a natural ability for teaching in a way that will help you grow immensely! If you are even slightly on the fence about taking lessons from her, don't be--you won't be disappointed!"
"Beth is a rare gem. Warm, caring, knowledgable, and makes learning exciting! I couldn't imagine anyone better fit to teach me! I am fully confident in her
and her abilities and know you wouldn't be disappointed! ☺️"
"whatzzzzz up, seth, you are the Beethoven of this millenia."
"I love lessons with Keira! She is so friendly and knowledgeable, and she really cares about her students."
"I have been taking lessons with Jimmy for years now for music theory, acoustic guitar, singing, recording, and now songwriting. Its awesome to have all th
ose options in one place. Jimmy has a lot of experience when it comes to writing songs and it shows in the way he teaches. He always shows excitement towards the new songs I bring to him, and encourages me to keep writing. He has taught me how easy it can be to create songs, while taking what he has taught me with music theory to push the song to the next level. The best part is when I decide I like a song, he has the ability to record it for me in his studio. This process of recording and listening to what you have created is invaluable. I always look forward to lessons with Jimmy and highly recommend him."
"Mimi helps me to gain confidence in my singing and songwriting and helps me feel good about the songs I write. She also helps inspire my creativity and gi
ves me good ideas for what I can work on. She is a very patient, knowledgeable, and compassionate instructor, definitely several points above average!"
"Really enjoyed my first lesson with Prophet! Very talented artist and a great teacher! Thank you!"
"I tried other teachers for my songwriting craft and vocal career. I felt like I was going nowhere fast and became frustrated. Then I tried Fawn. Game chan
ger! Fawn was clear and concise. I finally see progress with her. She has inspired me to become more passionate about music again. I had almost given up. Thank you Fawn! I look forward to continuing lessons with you. You are a blessing."
Are you learning to play guitar because you want to be able to write your own songs? Guitar teacher Samuel B. shares some tips to help you write lyrics to your first song...
Just as writing a song on guitar can seem like work for only a select few, so can writing the words to one. Once again, this assumption and the truth are completely unrelated. You don't need to be Bob Dylan or Bernie Taupin to do it – you only need to have something to say.
I first began writing lyrics as teenag …
