Students can expect a relaxed atmosphere, but also making sure that there is a high level of professionalism and expectation of attentiveness from the student.

Of course, I also understand that this all depends on the age of the student, and as we meet and get to see what it is that you want to focus on and I will make sure to concentrate on that and help you reach your goals!

About Erasmo
Hello Parents and Students,

I have been teaching and writing music professionally for ten years. My first introduction to music was just like some of you, starting in high school where I had a great teacher that encouraged me to play. This helped me so much, and I wouldn't be where I am at if it weren't for his help and positive encouragement. Now I try to encourage all of my students the same way.

After high school I went on and played percussion with various Orchestras such as the "œInland Valley Symphony Orchestra" and "Mt. San Jacinto Symphony Orchestra."

I have also been involved in the DCI (Drum Corps International) and Drumline community. I toured for four years and experienced performing with groups such as Yamato Drum and Bugle Corps 2002-2005, Black Knights 2006, and RCC marching and winter percussion under the direct
ion of Scott Johnson & Jeff Lee in 2002, and Sean Vega & Jim Wunderlich in 2003.

During my college years I started playing Jazz Vibraphone in my school'™s top big-band. This allowed me the opportunity to play Jazz Piano which I have performed and still study until this day. As a result, Jazz has now become one of my biggest passions.

As a Professional International Composer, I have had the privilege of writing and arranging for many marching bands, wind ensembles, and indoor percussion ensembles, including orchestrations, recordings and sequencing projects for media, and musical theatre in the United States and Japan.

I am also currently an adjudicator for the Southern California Band and Orchestra Association (SCSBOA) and a member of the Vic-Firth Education Team.

I hope that this gives you a close and personal Idea of where I come from and hope that I can help you get the most out of your experience with music.

*** Lesson Details ***
I believe that in order for you to get the most out of our lessons it takes both, the Teacher'™s and Student'™s understanding and attention from both ends. sometimes giving all of the information in the world won't help if one there is no engagement and two if me as a teacher don't make sure that you understand. So I like to make sure to explain things in more than one way to make sure the student understands the concepts and what to practice.

I like to keep a relaxed atmosphere, but also making sure that there is a high level of professionalism and expectation of attentiveness from the student.

Of course, I also understand that this all depends on the age of the student, and as we meet and get to see what it is that you want to focus on and I will make sure to concentrate on that and help you reach your goals!

I've been teaching contemporary drum set in Orange County for over a decade, and many of my students have gone on to not only play and read notated drum set music with ease, but have continued their studies at arts high-schools and music colleges, with several of them continuing on to the professional world. I use an award winning curriculum used at many music academies and conservatories, and have received accolades for my ability to retain many students for many years. Within the first few lessons, a new student will be able to understand the basics of rhythm and snare drum notation, play a plethora of relatable and cool sounding grooves, and build a foundation that will serve the student for a life time.

About Michael
Hi! My name is Michael and I am excited at the prospect of teaching you or your child...

I absolutely love to teach, but not just because of my love for the drums or my life-long appreciation of music, but because of my enjoyment of people and the learning process itself. I feel that this is important to mention, because if I didn't enjoy what I did and take pride in working with people, then my teaching skills, curriculum, and experience would mean nothing. As anybody who has played a musical instrument can attest to, learning something new is difficult, and having a patient teacher who enjoys working with people is mandatory.

Throughout my life, I have had the opportunity to study with some amazing teachers, including Carmine Appice (author of “Realistic Rock” and drummer for Rod Stewart, Vanilla Fudge, Cactus and Jeff Beck), J
ason Lingle (Berklee School Of Music), Keith Harris (drummer for The Black Eyed Peas) and Lee Nichols, to name a few. My experiences with these teachers has led to a proficiency in rock, jazz and Latin, as well as the ability to convey these concepts in a manner that promotes patience, personal challenge, and constant progress.

Besides teaching private lessons at many local facilities, I have had the opportunity to teach group classes at dozens of elementary and middle schools, including schools in the Westminster, Ocean View and Huntington Beach school districts. I have also aided many students into attending the arts high-school/college of their choice by working with them to properly read and perform all audition material.

Whether you are a brand-new beginner or a seasoned student of the instrument, I am confident that I can take your playing to the next level. Oh yeah, we will also have a great time. Maybe you don’t know yet, but playing the drums is FUN. Give me a call and I will prove it to you.

*** Lesson Details ***
I teach using the Freddie Gruber method, which promotes a natural grip of stick and the idea that we should allow the stick to “do what it wants to do” by using natural and fluid motions. This is an incredibly effective style of play and is used by drummers such as Neil Peart, Dave Weckl and Steve Smith.

I teach with an emphasis both on rudiments and hand technique, as well as drum-set exercises and genre study. I encourage practice to be done on a rubber practice pad
as well as on the drum-set, and for brand-new beginners, I often recommend that the practice pad be used exclusively for the first several weeks or months to allow for a great understanding of basic grips and hand techniques. This is especially true when the new beginner doesn't yet own a drum-set. I am often asked, “does my child need a drum-set to take lessons?” The answer is always a resounding “not at all!” A pair of sticks and a practice pad will do the trick, and will also allow you, as the parent, to see your child’s level of involvement.

Within the first 3 to 6 months of lessons, my students can expect to:

- Properly play and understand a handful of rudiments, including the single and double stroke rolls, the paradiddle family, as well as several flam and drag rudiments.
- Play and begin properly reading many different drum-beats and rhythms, and connect these beats using fills that are fun and sound cool.
- Begin learning songs of the their choice, from Metallica to Miles Davis.

I am also inspired by many different educational sources, including the textbooks:

- Stick Control by George Lawrence Stone
- Rockin’ Bass Drum by Charles Perry and John Lombardo
- Realistic Rock by Carmine Appice
- The Art Of Bop Drumming by John Riley
- The Drummer’s Bible by Mick Berry and Jason Gianni
- Haskell Harr’s Drum Method

…as well as many other awesome texts that provide both classic and contemporary concepts that are challenging, and most importantly, sound really cool.

I teach out of an awesome private studio that features 2 drum-sets (the student never needs to get off the drum-set), recording equipment (lessons are often recorded and cited later) and a great headphone sound system (for effectively learning and playing along with songs.) Simply put, I believe my studio is the most fun and efficient place to study the drums in Orange County.

Whether you are a drum-line student who needs help playing a piece, a rock drummer who wishes to learn the basics of jazz (or vice versa), or a brand-new beginner who wants to see what this whole drumming thing is all about (spoiler: it’s awesome), I have the patience, the passion and the skills to help you get the most out of this wonderful instrument. Let’s play the drums!

*** Specialties ***
Years of teaching group classes to elementary and middle school students has given me lots of experience with a multitude of learning styles. My specialty lies in not only conveying lessons and concepts in an easy to understand manner, but doing so in a fun way that encourages progress. Simply put, you will want to practice, simply to see exercises and grooves evolve.

While I am most proficient in rock music and have played in many rock bands, I am also very proficient in formal snare playing (marching/classical) as well as standards in jazz and Latin.

Michael has been very patient and flexible with my inconsistent schedule as a working adult. He brings a positive energy with a lot of praise and positive reinforcement that makes me look forward to my weekly lesson. If learning how to play drums is on your new years resolution/bucket list, Michael makes that commitment a fun experience! I've tried a few drum teachers but I especially noticed a huge improvement in my drum skills since I started lessons with Michael. I've played songs that I wouldn't have imagined playing a year ago. He is of course very knowledgable with the drums, published his own drum lesson book, but he doesn't just go through rudiments or textbook material. He gives various resources that are useful in drumming and never makes the learning experience dull. Very professional and easy-to-approach guy, I would recommend him to anyone wanting to learn drums, especially if you're an adult wanting to try something new!

After previously taking lessons from a different teacher who unfortunately moved away , I began taking lessons from Mike when I was about twelve years old. Mike is a very generous and caring teacher, and quickly saw that I had room for improvement. Within the first month, I learned more than I had ever before, from sight reading music, basic rudiments, timing skills, and how important drums really are as an instrument. His great teaching skills and support eventually led me to become accepted in The Academy of the Performing Arts at Huntington Beach High School. I learn something new from him each lesson and improve on numerous skills that interest me such as Latin, Jazz, Funk, and Pop music. From my first days taking lessons with him to now, I have grown tremendously as a musician. If anyone needs a skilled and trusted drum teacher, Mike is your best option. Over the past several years taking lessons with Mike, I now view him not only as a teacher and instructor, but as a friend too.

I've been studying with Paul for a few years, and I would not be close to my current skill level without his instruction and guidance. Paul is a patient and brilliant observer and expert analyst in developing technique. Every time I think I've got it, he makes some acute observation that brings it to a deeper level of refinement and nuance. And I've learned from him how crucial this refinement is to sounding good in everything you play on the kit. Beyond building the foundation of technique, with Paul you will learn various grooves in different genres, reading notation and drum charts, soloing and comping, as well as prioritizing and organizing your approach and having the right attitude so people will want to play with you. Lessons are always fun and inspiring, and Paul is patient and sensitive to individual needs. He also brings to lessons his experience as a professional drummer. I've seen him perform professionally in various styles: small jazz ensemble, big band, latin, rock, funk etc. And he always sounds great: solid and musical with a great feel. His combination of skill, experience, knowledge, profound insight and sensitivity make him an invaluable teacher for those interested in developing as an artist.

I am Certified Beginning Piano teacher as well as an intermediate level teacher. I studied piano at Cerritos College of Norwalk, CA and completed my Bachelor of Arts degree in Music with a focus in percussion from CSU Long Beach. I have consistently taught piano, music and drums since 2002.

I have traveled the world to perform music. I have been to Brazil to study samba and its many different styles with the World Percussion Program of CSU Long Beach in 2006 and 2007. In 2012, I traveled to Colombia and Venezuela to perform with the band of Terratour, a humanitarian group. While touring, we collaborated with local musicians in local venues.

You may have noticed from my photos and videos that I'm a Carpenters fan. I sing, play piano and drums. The Carpenters are my musical inspirations an
d that's exactly how I perform- with tender, love, and care. I was once the other musical half of a Carpenters tribute band, Close To You. My friend and I learned many of the Carpenters tunes and collaborated with vocals, piano, steel drums, drums and other percussion.

My teaching is focused on reading the notes (pitch), proper technique and rhythm. All are a part of the music-making process and should be equally strong. I start with young beginners when they can count to at least 10 and know the alphabet. The student must have the proper instrument and additional equipment, when necessary. The student is required to practice on a regular basis (daily is ideal).

I am currently available for online or in-studio lessons. Please notify me if there is a day and time not available. I try to be flexible but do prefer serious and committed students. When signing up a child for the first time, it is best to make a one year commitment so the child can really learn to work alone and develop self-discipline and parental guidance and support is necessary for success. For adults, commitment to practicing is key- not just lesson attendance.

You have all the ability and power to learn and be great- I'm just going to guide you all the way to your goal!

Please notify me of the special need prior to booking lessons so I can accommodate.

Any genre, any song. Teaching for 20 years. I tailor each lesson to the needs/goals of every student.

For beginners, I can write easy versions of your favorite songs for you, while giving you a well balanced music education.

For more advanced players, I can show you how to play almost any drum part, and show you tips on how to figure out drum parts by ear and make your own.

Since I play other instruments, I can show you how to jam to anything and sound good while having a blast!

For children, I make lessons fun and varied with learning and musical games to keep them excited and engaged.

For everyone, I can teach you the most efficient ways to learn any musical skill based on experience and leading scientific books on learning, while keeping lessons fun!

About Mike
I've studied piano and other instruments for 30 years, have been teaching music for 20, and have been a full time professional musician and music teacher for 11 years.

As a musician who was raised on classical piano but has also spent his life playing in bands, jamming, and composing in several genres, I believe that a well-rounded musical education is not only practical, but that it brings out the most enjoyment in music.

I also believe in teaching students whatever they love whether it's classical, rock, pop, jazz, world music, or a mix of everything! The more they love it, the more they will practice, and in turn the more they will love how they have improved - a circle of awesomeness!

As a professional musician, I play over 130 shows a year throughout North America as lead singer-guitarist for Celtic Rock group The Whiskeydicks, a
s the touring pianist for classical crossover group Vivace, as a solo singer-guitarist-pianist, and as the lead singer-guitarist-pianist-composer for my own symphonic-rock-fusion group, The Living. I've also toured extensively in Europe as keyboardist and backing vocalist for singer-songwriter Melanie Dekker.

My compositions have been performed by the Vancouver Symphony Orchestra, The Plastic Acid Orchestra, Turning Point Ensemble, Ad Mare Wind Quintet, Vivace, The Living, The Whiskeydicks and cellist-singer-songwriter Cris Derksen.

I have a B.Mus in Piano and Music Composition from The University of British Columbia. I'm an IVA Certified Level I Voice Instructor and have studied Vocals with John Henny, Jeffrey Skouson, Guy Babusek, and Spencer Welch; piano with Terence Dawson, David Vandereyk, and Ross Taggart; composition with Dorothy Chang, Keith Hamel, and Armanini; drums with Jay Deachman and Morgan Childs; bass with David Spidel; and accordion with Jelena Milojevic.

I've just moved to LA from Vancouver where I had about 40 students, so this is the time to sign up as I have room for new students for the first time in years!

The drums are the backbone of most music, so you have to be able to feel the groove and stay tight and on top of the beat. I encourage students to pick their favorite songs, and we drum to those while learning proper technique, rudiments, song form, fills, rhythm, different grooves / beats, and anything they want to know about the drums. I have been playing the drums for over sixteen years and have a Bachelor's Degree in Music from the Berklee College of Music. Drums is a beautiful art and form of expression and is just the tip of the iceberg we can tackle called Music.

About Eric
MUSIC!
I think music is the most beautiful thing in the world, so lets take time to learn and play music together.
I have been playing the drums for over sixteen years, and been in over fifteen bands in the course of that time. I have a degree in Music from the Berklee College of Music were I studied music theory and focused on Music Production and Engineering. I have been playing Piano, Bass, and Guitar for about ten years in addition to the drums, and have been recorded in sessions on each. I have a deep passion for synthesizers and electronic music, so lets make some bleeps and bloops together.

I am extremely kind, friendly, and funny so lessons with me are very relaxed and have an easy to learn environment. However I am very passionate about teaching to fit student needs; so if a student likes deadlines and homework, if that is w
hat will help them learn the best, then that is how I will teach.
Lets make some sweet music together!!

Wanna have fun playing drums? Can’t figure out what that beat was from “in the air tonight?” I got you covered! I have a very keen ear for music and have 16 years or playing a wide variety of genres. I specialize in pop/rock drumming but take a lot of influence from jazz, hip hop, Latin, etc. I was in drum line throughout high school and will focus heavily on rudiments, reading, and clean playing as well (I promise you, rudiments are fun when you take the time to get good at them). I’ve also studied with a number of fantastic drummers over the years and have retained a great deal of knowledge not only for myself, but also to share with you :)

Send me a message and let’s schedule a lesson today! I look forward to hearing from you!

**Si no hablas ingles, habló un poquito español tambien**

About Sheppard
Hi there! My name is Sheppard (I go by Shep if as well) and I’m a 27 year old drummer originally from Atlanta, GA. When I was about 10 years old I developed an interest in music after years of trying sports and never really enjoying it. Once I started playing music was when I found my true passion.

Over the years I started playing in bands, church, marching band, high school jazz band, etc. I also studied with a few different teachers over the years that have all given me some very valuable lessons.

In the spring of 2016 I relocated to Los Angeles and it has been a crazy, yet rewarding journey. I’ve played with some 15+ artists/groups, just recently went on my first national tour, and have been actively practicing my craft in my spare time. My next step is to acquire students to share my knowledge and love for music with.

I'll get you playing the covers and musicians you LOVE! Even if you have no experience. If you like to dance, you'll LOVE to play drums. If you don't like to dance, well now you'll have something to do at parties ;)

Drumming is one of the most soulful, visceral forms of music. Parents, nowadays drumming doesn't have to make much of a ruckus or take up a whole room!

About Fred
I can help you find the joy in learning music! Gone are the days of the old, crusty, strict piano teacher with a ruler. I'm here to show you that the dream you have of playing piano, singing, drums, or producing is completely within your grasp. You just have to take a leap of faith.

I have spent my life living and breathing music. I began singing in middle school in choir and in college, have sung in Segerstrom Hall, Walt Disney Concert Hall, the Hollywood Bowl, and the Greek Theater all under the batons of well known maestros!

My father started teaching me piano as a kid, but I really dove into it in college, where I joined a band that is still together. We play reggae, and I can play almost any style, just ask!

I've always had a rhythm in my soul, but I started playing drums for my high school choir, after which I joined my school's
drum corps. My background in those hard corps basis (see what I did there?) has helped me develop a unique and tasteful style. I can show you the ropes and you'll be playing your favorite covers in no time!

Production is a very special skill to learn and I would recommend at least a little bit of it for ANY musician! Learning about song structure can help anyone appreciate music more and even make their own! A big part of modern producing is assembling previously created parts into your own creation. If you've ever been listening to the latest club beat and felt yourself hearing other ways the producer might have timed out the samples or rhythms... then you have the SPARK!

Music is the most important thing that makes us human and gives us our identity, confidence, and purpose. I hope you'll let me help you find that side of yourself!
