Experienced drum teacher of 7 years! My lesson plan is simple : 1. we warm up with basic beats + rudiments + paradiddles, 2. we focus on rhythm + proper technique, and 3. we play a song that incorporates the techniques we're working on.

The time devoted to each portion of the lesson is totally adjustable. You will learn what you want to learn at your own pace.

About Ryan

Experienced cello, drum, piano, and guitar player of 20 years. Has a MFA degree in music composition + a BFA in music performance. Recorded professionally for tv shows such as "Glee," "Entertainment Tonight," and "Extra." Also records for "Sonoton Recordings." Currently resides in Los Angeles, Cali

I could not ask for more in a teacher. Ryan is amazing in every way. He has been teaching my 4 year old son the drums for nearly a year. When my son started lessons, he was actually below the minimum age for students, but he shared a passion for music that Ryan was willing to cultivate and be patient with.

Ryan is versatile in his teaching methods, creative, open, patient. Teaching a young student, Ryan adjusted to teaching music reading fundamentals with colors and shapes. He also figured out ways to correct, critique and build all the while building a young child's confidence.

Ryan provides a written evaluation of our son annually and has him prepare for two public recitals a year. Ryan integrates modern technology into the lessons to quickly provide feedback and create customized beats and tempos to practice to.

Above all, Ryan smiles and laughs. He makes every lesson pleasant and we treasure him, truly.

Ryan is very enthusiastic and knowledgeable. I had a great time learning guitar from him. Make sure you tell him what your goals are so he can help you achieve them.

I have a 100% rate of getting my students into their school of choice as of yet. Although I don't guarantee it, I will work relentlessly to make sure you are well prepared though. I will also lend you PDFs of books to help you save a buck.

About Scott

I have been playing drums and percussion since the ripe old age of 9, in 4th grade. Originally wanting to play the clarinet, my music teacher thought my sense of rhythm was too good to waste and placed me in the drum section. I was the only kid who didn't want to play drums. Over twenty years later

Had my first lesson with Scott today. I was very happy with the way it went . I'm 50 years old with no experience at all - so I can honestly say the lesson was enjoyable without any pressure.

Scott is amazing with our 7 year son beginner. He has him so engaged and excited to learn & play. He's a one-of-a-kind teacher.

Scott is inspiring, motivating, caring, attentive, personal and professional. In only a few weeks my daughter is developing a solid foundation in technique, rhythmic notation and musicianship. I would strongly reccommend him.

Together we will go from basic coordination exercises all the way to advanced grooves. We will talk about the composition of a drum part to a song. Aside from drum set technique, we can also learn hand drum techniques. In a world where you can not always bring a drum set to every gig, we will learn how we use other percussion instruments to achieve the same feel as using a drum set.

For all of my students regardless of age I like to teach music aurally. We will first listen to what we are trying to learn then attempt to either sing or speak the phrases of the composition. We practice each phrase with many repetitions at various tempos before we move to the instrument. We then repeat this process with our instruments. For balding technique we zoom in even further to take a closer look at the music. Breaking down phrases to their smallest parts helps to gain fluency over the musical language, mastery over the technical aspects of our instruments and develop focus. To boost our creativity we use these phrases for improvisation. During everything we practice we always focus on various tools to help us improve our musicality.I get so much joy out of teaching music. One thing that I love about it is how much I learn from my students. It is a beautiful thing to embrace your own individuality. In my lessons I encourage my students to be themselves. Each lesson is ...

Drum lessons are unique with me, because the depth of knowledge in a variety of styles that I have gained from my education and life experience. Each student receives a differentiated curriculum to meet their specific needs; I do not use a "one size fits all" teaching method. I also have an ability to relate techniques, because of my performance experience, to real life musical settings.

"My son has been taking lessons with Ed since he was 5. Ed was very patient dealing with a high energy child who had a limited attention span. Eight years later, we are still seeing Ed weekly for lessons and my son has turned into a well-rounded musician. Ed tailors the lessons to my son's musical interests and takes an interest in what is going on in his life.

We have gone to see Ed perform in several venues and he always takes the time to talk to us during his break. I highly recommend Drum Lessons with Ed for those at any skill level."

"Mike is one of 4 drum teachers to enter my son Larry’s life, and absolutely the best one. Larry has shown more improvement in the last 6 months with Mike than in the last 4 years combined with all of his previous teachers.

As my son has a disability, it is often hard to find a teacher that can not only help him to find enjoyment and enthusiasm, but treat him like the serious musician he is. The best part of his teaching… Larry doesn’t even realize he’s learning. To him, they just jam.

I’ve seen my son grow not just as a drummer, but as a musician and student since Mr. Mike became his instructor. Now, he can listen better, play better, and have more fun on his instrument. I am very grateful for Mr. Mike’s patience, compassion, and skill set as a drum instructor and for the confidence he brought to my son."

"John has been a great drum instructor for our 9 year old son. In a short period of time, John has taught him tons of skills and also helped develop his love of drumming. He keeps it fun, easy and motivational, but also has challenged our little drummer. He is very encouraging and positive with our son's progress. John is always on time and is a great communicator. We definitely recommend John!"

Mike is an awesome drum teacher. I have been taking lessons from him for a couple months now and he has made me able to do much more than I expected. He is very organized with an endless amount of different worksheets and charts to work on that challenge you just enough. He is a nice person and is fun to be around, I wouldn't take drum lessons from anyone other than mike."

When Should You Replace Your Drum Heads?

A big part of drum set maintenance is knowing when to replace your drum heads. But when is the right time to do so? Of course, the right time will depend on how often you play - and also how hard you play. It can also depend on the sound you're going for, but a good rule of thumb is to switch out their drum heads when they start losing their original tone - they may sound dull, flat or worn. Other factors are if you notice dents (likely to happen if you're still using the stock heads), if you …
