I'm glad I found Paul on takelessons.com. I was looking for someone to help me take my decent but untrained voice to the next level. Paul is committed to helping me advance toward my goal of being a singer-songwriter. In addition to the exercises we work on to strengthen my voice and gain control, he has given me some strategies to track my progress and improve more quickly. He also encourages me to take risks and go out and sing karaoke. He is caring and authentic and genuinely invested in my growth, and I am becoming a better musician because of it. Thank you, Paul!!

Not only is John an off-the-charts professional drummer, he's a fantastic human being as well! He loves music and it comes through in the lessons! In 35 years of playing and hanging around wannabees, John is the genuine musician! Anyone really wanting to learn correctly needs John. I recommend him 100%.

This was a really unfortunate and wasted experience. Raycurt was wildly unprepared to teach. He brought a broken metronome and almost no sheet music/lesson plan. I had spoken both to the sales rep and Raycurt himself prior to the lesson and he was still fully unprepared.

I also explained my level of experience and was assured Raycurt was qualified to teach at the level I needed, but he came off as less knowledgable than me, which was particularly disappointing.

Worst of all, after multiple hours of speaking on the phone, I couldn't get my money back for this lesson.

I'd strongly recommend not using takelessons at all, they've put a horrible taste in my mouth for their entire service.

"I am a 20 year old college student and I've been taking lessons with Mike for almost a year now. There hasn't been a time when I left the lesson without learning something new or improving on my previous skills. Mike is an excellent teacher and is very familiar with many different genres and styles of music. I always look forward to going to my lessons because every week there's something new and challenging waiting for me. I would highly recommend Mike as a percussion teacher to anyone, as he is incredibly nice and talented at the same time!"

"Mike is the best teacher!

My son has been taking drum lessons from Mike for about 6 years consistently. Mike is an amazing instructor and all around great person. My son has learned so much from Mike, enjoys going to his lessons every week(the ONLY activity that he has done that there is NO complaining about going to lessons, only enthusiasm). He has grown leaps and bounds with his level of drumming, all due to Mike. Mike's studio is high tech, his teaching ability and knowledge of all kinds of genres of music and general positive encouragement and attitude make Mike the best drum instructor. He is a great role model for my son, as well. You can't go wrong with Mike!"

"I played drums in a school band and haven't played in a few years. I approached John about getting back into the art even though I was a little rusty. Previously I have taken lessons with people who were skilled gigging drummers but not the best educators. John is a great combination of professional musician and a skilled educator, as shown through his patience and ability to explain techniques and skills. I highly recommend John as a teacher for any level, because he has been so wonderful in getting me back on my musical feet!"

5 Ways to Improve Speed and Drum Technique

Want to play faster and improve your drum technique? Try these tips from Detroit, MI teacher Joshua J. to make your drum practice more effective. When it comes to learning drums, there are five questions you should ask yourself: 1. What am I learning and why? 2. Is this natural or forced? (is it relaxed or tense?) 3. Is it easy as pie? If not, then why? 4. Am I making progress? 5. Does it sound the way I want it to? Speed is a big thing for drummers. It’s impressive and it jus …
