About Thomas
Thomas J. W. is an active music teacher, composer, adjudicator, and clinician in the greater Philadelphia area. He has over fifteen years experience as a concert band director, marching band director, jazz improvisation instructor, choral director, private instructor, and marching drill writer. His directing career has included small rural band programs, small metro programs, large high-achieving suburban programs, and non-profit youth bands. In addition to his band compositions, he also has over forty unpublished vocal arrangements to his credit, most written for use with collegiate men's a cappella groups. Thomas taught over 600 online and local private music lessons in 2016.

Thomas has a Bachelor of Science degree in Music Education from The Pennsylvania State University. He holds a teaching certificate in the states of Pennsylvania
and New Jersey and has taught at the secondary level in both states. In addition to both instrumental and choral ensembles at Penn State, Thomas was a student leader in the Penn State Blue Band and a member of the brass section of the Cadets of Bergen County Drum and Bugle Corps in 1993 and 1994. He served as an Associate Director of the Warren Junior Military Band of Youngstown, Ohio from 1995 to 2005. He also served as a visual staff member for the renowned North Penn Marching Knights of Lansdale, PA for one season in 2004.

He is a current adjudicator with Drum Corps International and Cavalcade of Bands. He is a member of MENC, PMEA, NJMEA, ASCAP, CASA, Phi Mu Alpha Sinfonia, and the National Band Association. He appeared in the Marquis Who's Who Among American Educators in 2004 and 2005, an honor rarely bestowed upon teachers, as students who appear in the Who's Who Among American High School Students must nominate them. He currently is a music teacher at the Center for Performing and Fine Arts of the PA Leadership Charter School in West Chester, PA and resides in Downingtown, PA with his wife and two sons.

Thomas will happily work with students on the autism spectrum or students with ADD.

*** Lesson Details ***
My lessons are tailored to the needs and interests of each student. If a student is involved in school music ensembles, we will work with their lesson books from school in addition to material outside of the books, including SmartMusic, Noteflight, and teacher-created materials. We will focus on building proper tone production and individual technique - something that often is difficult to learn in a large ensemble setting.

I am capable of starting a beginner student on any band instrument including percussion, any classical string instrument (violin, viola, cello, string bass), and piano. I can begin a student on drum set and work with them through their first method book, but I would then recommend they find a specialized drum set teacher after a period of six to twelve months.

For advanced students, I work from selected conservatory etude books on developing advanced skills and can work with students on audition pieces for honors bands/orchestras or college auditions.

My lessons are a half-hour once a week, with the option of working for 45 minutes or 60 minutes.

*** Specialties ***
music, band, orchestra, flute, clarinet, oboe, bassoon, saxophone, trumpet, french horn, trombone, euphonium, tuba, violin, viola, cello, string bass, piano, Percussion
classical, jazz improvisation

Thomas is honestly an amazing musician and teacher. He was really patient with me. Despite having to deal with major timezone differences (as I live in Myanmar), he took the time to figure it out. Also, he helped me figure out the stuff it took me months to figure out. He also really knows what he's doing. I learned so much in that hour of practice. 10/10 would recommend him.

I am a current band director focused on your student's success and mastery on the trombone. We will work on tone, range, and develop technique through a tailored lesson that will fit you or your student. I am also happy to supplement your child's band instruction and work on area/region honor band auditions with your child.

About Matthew
Hi, I am Matt. I am a band director in the Fort Smith, AR area. I am in my 7th year teaching band and love every minute of it. I have recently decided to return to teaching private lessons, and would love to help you with your auditions, festival music, AP music theory exams, or just learn some skills on becoming a better musician. Outside of the audition music, we continually work tone production, range, and confidence on any wind instrument. In college I had a small guitar studio as well. Some of those guitar students have gone on to study at the collegiate level and gig around town today! I have taught beginning band for 4 years now on all wind instruments including percussion. I have a firm grasp to provide solid fundamentals to start your musical journey and get you off to a great start. Feel free to ask me any questions about lesson
s.

June 2012 - June 2015 I was the head band director of Waldron High School in Waldron, AR. We won several awards through our marching and concert band program. I also ran after school lessons in which many students made our region honor band.

June 2015 - Present
I am currently the head director at Trinity Junior High in Fort Smith. I run a 7-9 band program that includes both marching and concert band seasons. Our student involvement is quite high as our band program serves about 50% of our total student population (about 90 kids served daily on all wind instruments). My band here has received many superior ratings, and many students make our region honor group, and go on to excel in high school band programs in our area.

I have studied with some of the finest trombonists in the world, performed in the nation's top orchestras, and am firmly committed to excellence in the trombone field. Music is one of the most indescribably powerful and moving things in the entire world, and I want students to, above all, simply enjoy playing and experiencing this gift. The trombone is, of course, merely a means to an end in this regard; yet its rich, powerful, as well as versatile sound is what particularly draws me to it. My approach to playing the trombone is simple: producing the greatest sound on every note, as easily as possible. I think it is necessary to have the best sound that you can possibly make on the trombone in your head from day one, and to this end, I strive to play as much as possible for and along with the student so that they may develop their own ideal sound concept. I couple this with instruction on all the other fundamentals of trombone playing and music making, such as technique, scales, ...

le this with instruction on all the other fundamentals of trombone playing and music making, such as technique, scales, rhythms, intonation, breathing, etc. But never forget that the ultimate goal is to perform the music the way it goes and to simply sing through the instrument. By this I do not not necessarily mean playing all the correct notes, but instead performing the music in the correct style and context as the composer intended, and always playing musical lines. Remember that music is to be shared with others, and that making a statement with the music we play, in a way expressing our deepest emotions, is what this is all about!

Hi! I have a Bachelors in Music Education and have experience teaching many beginning students! I have 3 children and decided to give up regular teaching to be with them. I marched Drum and Bugle Corp and was taught a lot about Brass instruments during that time. I played a straight Baritone and Mellophone in different years. I believe that tone production is the most important area of study. It doesn’t matter what you can play if it doesn’t sound good. I can’t wait to help more students love to “play” on their instruments!

About Kim
Hello! I started my love of music at a young age with my family playing and singing at family functions. That turned into a wanting to learn how to play the flute and I went up through high school with that instrument. After high school I branched out more into vocal performance. After that I joined a traveling performance group. No not the circus! I joined Drum and Bugle Corp. They taught be how to play the Baritone and I marched a straight Baritone. I then learned the Mellophone and marched that after. Since I had experience with Drum Corp Marching I taught over 10 different marching programs over many different years. I graduated from College with my Bachelors in Music Education and was a music director until I had my children and decided to give up regular teaching. After all of the years I spent honing my craft I decided t
o continue giving lessons. I have the most experience with Flute, but can teach many other instruments: flute, clarinet, saxophone, trumpet, trombone, baritone/euphonium, piano.
I have worked with many different age groups and levels of ability. I am happy to help you learn to have fun and "play" your instrument!

I have been playing Brass instruments, specializing in Trombone, since 2004. I love teaching music, and welcome all ages to come out and try and toot their horn. I'll build a personalized lesson plan based on the students wants, and needs, and I'll do my absolute best to get you where ever you want to go musically.

About Rachel
I have been playing the piano and the trombone since childhood. Growing up in a musical family, music has always played a big part in my life. I was active in school bands in addition to taking private lessons throughout grade school. In high school I was a member of Tri-M (a musical honor society), qualified for district band through audition, and was ranked in the top 10% of trombone players in the state of Virginia. Throughout my education I developed a working knowledge of brass instruments, music theory, a variety of playing styles, and much more.

After high school, I pursued and earned a Bachelor's Degree in Psychology at Virginia Commonwealth University, while continuing my musical career, playing in bands offered by the school as well as in the Richmond area. I am currently active with the ACCA Temple Shiners in their German band
, The Sauerkrauts, 100% of whose proceeds go to benefit children in Shriner-owned hospitals.

I have been giving private lessons since 2006, and have a deep passion for musical education. I feel learning to play an instrument enriches life in a way few other things can.

I've been a trombone player since beginning band in 4th grade! While it is my second instrument, I enjoyed playing in band, jazz band, and in my college pep band.

I am happy to help beginning students to make a good sound, learn notes, slide positions, and practice the music they are working on.

About Courtney
Hello, I am Courtney!

As a teacher I strive to meet each student where they are at so that our lessons can suit their strengths and needs. I can be a little silly with my young students and believe that music, while sometimes hard work, is most importantly for our enjoyment and emotional expression. I am very patient and love nothing more than a student's "aha!" moment, when something that seems difficult finally makes sense. I've been told by administrators that I have a very calming demeanor with students, which I believe has helped me to create a open and welcoming classroom.

I grew up in the mountain town of Stowe, Vermont, where I participated in music activities from the time I was a young child. I was part of our school's band, jazz band and chorus as well as participating in school and community theater both on and off stag
e. I've wanted to be a teacher since the age of 10, when my youngest sister was born. I loved babysitting, and took every opportunity I could to work with children as I grew up, including teaching Sunday School and being a music leader at a yearly camp. I chose to combine my two passions and become a music teacher, because I believed (and still do) that not only could I assist in their education, but that music is a wonderful tool to help students grow emotionally and socially as well. I now have been a licensed music teacher since 2012 and have a Bachelor's in Music Education from Hartt School of Music and a Master's in Music Education from Boston University.

After teaching in Connecticut for a number of years, my husband and I moved to our current home in Santa Monica, CA. We have a five-year-old fluffy corgi named Duke who lives a double life as a spoiled baby and a hard-working service dog. If you are in the Santa Monica area you may see us out and about at parks, people watching downtown, or generally enjoying the sun.

Everyone’s gotta start somewhere! Whether you only know how to hold the trombone, or can fly through diminished licks over a Tritone sub I’m here to help you enjoy playing trombone and grow your skills at the same time. I teach both classical and jazz skills while working with students, as I believe music is not always enjoyed and created on paper but will accommodate to your interests.

About John
I am currently pursuing a Jazz Performance degree at Florida State University. However trombone is not how I fell in love with music. I started taking classical guitar lessons at age seven and successfully continued through high school, becoming part of the all state guitar ensembles. I started on trombone at age 11. Through jazz, funk, blues and improvisation I fell in love with the sound and techniques I could implement on a brass horn. I continued playing both instruments in a funk band and still gig regularly on both.
