I am a professional full-time trombonist. At the same time, teaching has always been a big part of who I am - I love teaching. My music career has taken me around the world and back but more than that it has given me a wonderful tool of self-expression, and for that, I am forever grateful. My band performs regularly in Opera houses as well as coffee houses. Other than the trombone I do play the trumpet as well, and I have over 8 years of piano under my belt.
the star of the big band the trombone if you need assistance learning how to tame this wonderful instrument don't hesitate to ask.
Over my 20 years of playing trumpet professionally, I have picked up enough trombone to offer quite a lot to trombone students! I believe the fundamentals of all great brass playing are the same, and I can get you off to a fantastic start if you are a beginner or intermediate player :).
The trombone is a colorful and exciting instrument played in many styles of music throughout the world, from jazz and classical to funk and soul to reggae, afro-beat, and Latin American music. In addition to covering the basic technical requirements of the instrument, I'm particularly interested in the many genres in which the trombone can be found, and I like to focus on the styles of music that most interest and challenge my students. I began playing soprano trombone over ten years ago, and I have taught tenor trombone privately and in public school programs for several years. I encourage the use of long tones, air support, and brass calisthenics to improve tone, increase range and endurance, and work towards greater flexibility.
My name is Jerry. I LOVE music and passing my knowledge on to others. I have played many different instruments in many different kinds of bands. It all one major thing in common, it was FUN! If you are not having fun while learning an instrument you won't want to learn. Lessons can be fun AND educational at the same time. I have had many parents tell me I'm one of the best teachers they have ever seen. (A couple of them were public school teachers themselves). I truly want my students to succeed and I will do everything in my power to help them accomplish that!
I am a professional orchestral trombonist and I have been an active brass teacher for almost twenty years. I have played in orchestras across the USA and Europe, including the Cincinnati Symphony, BBC Symphony Orchestra, Scottish Chamber Orchestra and many more. I aim to give my students a solid understanding of the technical skills required to play a brass instrument, and to share with them the musical knowledge I have gained from studying with some of the best brass teachers in the world.
Students begin with the Rubank method. A strong emphasis is placed on the fundamentals of scales, ear training, sight reading, and music theory. Along with this we have fun playing the music student enjoys.
The chance to make trombone a fantastically enjoyable music-making experience!
