I started taking music lessons at the age of 9. It began playing in the church and then I taught lessons in my home at the age of 16. I went on to attend and graduate from Christian Heritage College (now called San Diego Christian College) with a Bachelors Degree in Music and Business. I am now the Director of the Music Department at San Diego Young Artists Music Academy. I direct two youth and children choirs, a male chorus and a great adult choir. I also sing with the Voices of Prayze who travel with Jason Mraz from time to time. As a singer, pianist and as a teacher, I specialize in Gospel piano & vocal technique and repertoire. I also have a great deal of experience in Pop, R&B, and Classical so I am able to help students excel in these genres as well.

I will encourage each student to reach into their spirit and bring out what is already inside of them through the type of music that brings them happiness. After 3- 6 months of lessons from me pianist will be able to know beginning concepts, play songs of their choice by ear and note read simple songs also. Singers will know beginning vocal exercises, be able to project their voice, and sing high and low notes accurately to songs according to their ability.

I am a very laid back instructor, though the classes are very well structured.
Usually, we progress with a chosen curriculum according to the student's or parent's vision and initial overview during the 1st few classes. However, all curriculums are supplemented to enhance student performance and comprehension. Our supplemental material is used to go swifter for material that you grasp well and understand, and slower with more repetition for that that you need more practice, without being monotonous. It is also used to provide appropriate but exciting reinforcement of all material to ensure that material is retained.

I have been playing the piano for 11 years. I started when I was 6 and have been taking private lessons ever since. I received classical training, but I enjoy all types of music. I can also play the organ, french horn, trumpet, guitar, and banjo. I have been teaching local students for almost 5 years and love getting to share my passion for music with others. Along with teaching piano, I am employed as a church musician.
Usually, I teach the James Bastien Piano for the Young Beginner to children and Bastien Piano for Adults to teenagers and adults. I have had a handful of students that preferred to learn by ear and I do not mind teaching that way either. I never use a "one size fits all" approach. I have had a handful of students that preferred to learn by ear and I do not mind teaching that way either. I never use a "one size fits all" approach.
