By the end of their first lesson, students will be able to play a basic drum beat along to music!

Drum lessons are structured around the development of four basic skills: technique, groove, reading, and musicianship. Lessons are also flexible enough to be tailored to the interests and needs of each individual student. Most importantly, I make it a priority that the student leaves each lesson having learned how to apply what was taught in a musical setting.

About Michi
Hello!

I've been playing drums for 15+ years and have studied with the following great drummers: Jeffrey Kraus, Peter Jarvis, Joel Rosenblatt, Kimberly Thompson, Dom Famularo, and Stephane Chamberland.

Throughout high school and college, I played in percussion ensembles and rock bands, performing throughout New York City and New London. Currently, I write and play my own music for a solo project called East River Soundtracks.

I offer drum lessons for beginners that cover all of the basics necessary for you to become not only a great drummer but a great MUSICIAN. The curriculum will consist of four main pillars: technique, groove, reading, and musicianship.

I absolutely LOVE this instrument and am excited to help you get started on it!

All best,

Michi

Michi is a GREAT drum teacher! He is very technical and knows how to teach you the basic motions of drumming that will prevent you from become injured as you become more advance. He's also very down to earth and open to modifying lessons to suit your needs - for example... I wanted to learn technique but also how to do basic grooves so I could play along with music on my own and with friends. I learned a lot and had fun hanging out with him. Highly recommend! Thanks Michi!

I began playing drums 15 years ago and since then have played drums in a variety of settings. I am comfortable with technique of a wide variety of genres and know how to write drum notation

About Michael
I am a classically trained and professional musician who has worn many different musical hats over the years. I began playing drums when I was 14, in Houston, TX with Craig LeMay, and since then I have learned many different string and world instruments. I studied music theory and vocal performance at the Florence University of the Arts in Italy, taken sitar lessons from Mita Nag in Kolkatta, India, and jazz performance in Austin, TX with Joey Colarusso. I have played in many different bands over the years, such as accompanying Michael Kiwanuka with the musical saw, accompanying Katie Sachs with the musical saw, playing bass guitar with Halaska and DJing private events with Spacecraft Entertainment. I have been teaching music to special education students, in Austin public schools, and foster children with Kids in a New Groove. I have als
o built and modified many of my own instruments and ready to teach you some quirky musical production skills as well. I believe listening and being adaptable to an individual student's needs are the keys to teaching anyone to express themselves through music.

After studying Spanish for 2 years at the university level and extensive travel to Latin America I am fluent in Spanish in both the academic and conversational sides of the language.

Really good teacher. I had never played piano before and Michael was great at instantly giving me things to work on and gave off the impression that lessons were tailored to what I was interested in and the direction I personally wanted to go with the piano. I'd definitely recommend him to anyone else looking for a good instructor in piano or any other musical instrument he works with.

As a drummer/percussionist of 18 years, I have experience in styles including rock, pop, jazz, classical, and more. Together we will develop a solid sense of groove & rhythm by studying rudiments, improvisation, music theory, and more. We will also spend time working on music that you personally love! At my studio, I have a drum kit and vibraphone, among other instruments. Whether you are starting from the very beginning or have been playing for a while, I’d love to work with you!

About Robby
Hi! My name is Robby and I am a drummer/percussionist based in Brooklyn. Since the age of fourteen, I have been teaching students in both recreational and career-focused contexts. Playing music is the most rewarding part of my life, and sharing that fulfillment with others is extremely important to me. I prioritize humor, empathy, and patience as crucial elements of music making.

As a teacher, I value the solidification of fundamentals as well as a strong focus on developing personal style and taste. Each person's relationship with music is unique, so I strive to help each student in developing techniques and routines that best suite their individual goals. My musical knowledge includes rock, pop, hip-hop, classical, jazz, electronic, and almost any other genre.

I am an active performer in the city and have a wealth of experience
to draw from. I am co-founder of an avant-dream band called Boio (with Finnegan Shanahan) and drummer of The Roofer’s Union. I also frequently play with projects like Alpenglow, Contemporaneous, Abbi Press, Goldfeather, and Echo Chamber, among other freelance gigs in the NY area. As a contemporary percussionist, I have worked with renowned artists like John Corigliano, Pascal Le Boeuf, Martin Creed, So Percussion, Jerek Bischoff, and more. Some of my performance highlights include appearances at Carnegie Hall, Lincoln Center, PASIC, The Massachusetts Museum of Contemporary Art, Park Avenue Armory, National Sawdust, Elsewhere (Hall), and EMPAC.

I can teach out of my studio in Downtown Brooklyn, online, or I am happy to meet you for lessons elsewhere if you have your own location with the instruments we need. I can teach drumset, classical & orchestral percussion, keyboard mallet instruments, early piano, and techniques in Ableton Live, Logic Pro, Pro Tools, and Garageband music softwares.

Whether you have no musical experience or have been practicing for a while, I am happy to work with you and figure out how to best reach your full musical potential. I look forward to meeting you!

Drumming is challenging, and rewarding, but It's also supposed to be FUN ... it is for me, and I want my students to have some of that fun, too! I've played drums for 38 years and have taught since 1992. I use a wide variety of professional experiences along with my education background to help students of all ages reach their personal goals, whether it's to just play along with their favorite top-40 tunes, reach for more advanced music, or get ahead in their school's music program. I highly encourage feedback and student input regarding what we will work on together!

About Luc
After drumming for almost 40 years, I feel like I've nearly done it all, having played played Rock, small and big group Jazz, Classic R&B/Soul, Fusion, Funk, Folk, Reggae/World Music, Top-40, Heavy Rock, Classic and Contemporary Country, Blues, Electronic, Theater, and Cinematic/Soundtrack music.

I was self-taught at first by listening and playing along with recordings, and then studied under Maine greats Dick Demers and Steve Grover, and attended the University of Maine-Augusta in the Jazz and Contemporary music program. During the past few years, I've also started to play the Chapman Stick, and I've increased the amount of hand percussion in his bag of tricks.
My reputation in the Maine music scene is as a solid, first-rate musician, and throughout all of this, I've appeared on many recordings. I'm now the drummer in the 80’s part
y/dance band “The GE3KS” and in the original band “Goss”, with an Adult Contemporary/Alt Rock album currently being written and recorded, as well as hard rock originals with Jerry Perron, with an alum completed and slated for mastering at Abbey Road Studios over the summer and fall of 2017.

I've taught drum set in one-on-one settings since 1992, first at Spectrum Music in Lewiston and Brunswick, Maine, then at The Music Centre in Brunswick, and at The Drum Shop in Portland, as well as in my own home. I've also lectured at summer percussion camps, and authored a drum method book, "Beginning Drum Set Coordination," and published the first edition in 2004, with an updated second edition printed in 2016. In mid-2016, I re-joined the teaching staff at The Drum Shop, and shortly after joined the staff at The Midcoast School of Music, also in Portland.

Since November of 2016, I have been an artist endorser for Rich Sticks. Check them out; they make a fantastic quality product and they're a top-notch crew!

His depth of understanding and passion for music go far beyond just his substantial drumming, vocal and Chapman Stick talents. He is able to engage in the technical minutiae and the broad philosophical aspects of all styles. Time spent with Luc in the musical space will move you forward!

The drums are the backbone of most music, so you have to be able to feel the groove and stay tight and on top of the beat. I encourage students to pick their favorite songs, and we drum to those while learning proper technique, rudiments, song form, fills, rhythm, different grooves / beats, and anything they want to know about the drums. I have been playing the drums for over sixteen years and have a Bachelor's Degree in Music from the Berklee College of Music. Drums is a beautiful art and form of expression and is just the tip of the iceberg we can tackle called Music.

About Eric
MUSIC!
I think music is the most beautiful thing in the world, so lets take time to learn and play music together.
I have been playing the drums for over sixteen years, and been in over fifteen bands in the course of that time. I have a degree in Music from the Berklee College of Music were I studied music theory and focused on Music Production and Engineering. I have been playing Piano, Bass, and Guitar for about ten years in addition to the drums, and have been recorded in sessions on each. I have a deep passion for synthesizers and electronic music, so lets make some bleeps and bloops together.

I am extremely kind, friendly, and funny so lessons with me are very relaxed and have an easy to learn environment. However I am very passionate about teaching to fit student needs; so if a student likes deadlines and homework, if that is w
hat will help them learn the best, then that is how I will teach.
Lets make some sweet music together!!

A combination of working on technique/theory such as proper sticking, paradiddles, and working with a metronome. I emphasize the metronome and think its important to be practicing with it consistently. I'm into a variety of different music and am open to teaching what the student wants to learn. We'll also incorporate reading, listening, and free play. A well rounded approach that will get you confident hold a proper groove with steady time.

About Steve
I am a bass player, guitarist, piano player, drummer, vocalist, and I write my own music. I've been playing and studying music for 15 years. I started out on the bass guitar because it was what stood out to me most when I listened to music that I enjoyed. I had friends that were playing guitar and drums at the time, so we formed a band pretty much right when I started playing. It's great experience to just jump in and play with others!

The bass always resonated with me when I listened to music as a youngster and deciding which instrument to stick with. I was lucky to have some great teachers in school who inspired me and told me I picked the right instrument for my personality with the bass guitar. I had the benefit of playing in bands even when I was just starting out on my instrument. Learning my favorite tunes was a big part of what
kept me motivated as a musician and I strive to cater to each individual and work on the stuff they love so that they stay motivated and inspired. Music theory and the fundamentals are important, but I try to relate the theory to what the student is interested as best as possible.

I've been lucky to be able to study music in college and attended Berklee College of Music in Boston, MA and graduated from Naropa University in Boulder, CO. I had the benefit of studying with amazing teachers, attending master classes with some of the best players in the world, and playing in groups and with people that have pushed me to continue studying and excel at my instrument.

I currently teach at New Windsor Music Academy in New York and I have several private students that I work with outside of the school. I try to keep lessons fun and informative, so I plan each lesson with structure so that the student can get the most out of our time together. I get the most joy out of watching my students feel elated when they are able to play tunes that they love, understand the theory behind what they are playing, and progress as musicians.
