I can help beginners get started or coach advanced students who are preparing for auditions.
Thomas J. W. is an active music teacher, composer, adjudicator, and clinician in the greater Philadelphia area. He has over fifteen years experience as a concert band director, marching band director, jazz improvisation instructor, choral director, private instructor, and marching drill writer. His directing career has included small rural band programs, small metro programs, large high-achieving suburban programs, and non-profit youth bands. In addition to his band compositions, he also has over forty unpublished vocal arrangements to his credit, most written for use with collegiate men's a cappella groups. Thomas taught over 600 online and local private music lessons in 2016.
Thomas has a Bachelor of Science degree in Music Education from The Pennsylvania State University. He holds a teaching certificate in the states of Pennsylvania
and New Jersey and has taught at the secondary level in both states. In addition to both instrumental and choral ensembles at Penn State, Thomas was a student leader in the Penn State Blue Band and a member of the brass section of the Cadets of Bergen County Drum and Bugle Corps in 1993 and 1994. He served as an Associate Director of the Warren Junior Military Band of Youngstown, Ohio from 1995 to 2005. He appeared in the Marquis Who's Who Among American Educators in 2004 and 2005, an honor rarely bestowed upon teachers, as students who appear in the Who's Who Among American High School Students must nominate them. He currently is a music teacher at the Center for Performing and Fine Arts of the PA Leadership Charter School in West Chester, PA and resides in Downingtown, PA with his wife and two sons.
Thomas will happily work with students on the autism spectrum or students with ADD.
*** Lesson Details *** My lessons are tailored to the needs and interests of each student. If a student is involved in school music ensembles, we will work with their lesson books from school in addition to material outside of the books, including SmartMusic, Noteflight, and teacher-created materials. We will focus on building proper tone production and individual technique - something that often is difficult to learn in a large ensemble setting.
I am capable of starting a beginner student on any band instrument including percussion, any classical string instrument (violin, viola, cello, string bass), and piano. I can begin a student on drum set and work with them through their first method book, but I would then recommend they find a specialized drum set teacher after a period of six to twelve months.
For advanced students, I work from selected conservatory etude books on developing advanced skills and can work with students on audition pieces for honors bands/orchestras or college auditions.
My lessons are a half-hour once a week, with the option of working for 45 minutes or 60 minutes.
Thomas is honestly an amazing musician and teacher. He was really patient with me. Despite having to deal with major timezone differences (as I live in Myanmar), he took the time to figure it out. Also, he helped me figure out the stuff it took me months to figure out. He also really knows what he's doing. I learned so much in that hour of practice. 10/10 would recommend him.

Fabulous! What a great teacher! And SO KNOWLEDGEABLE about all kinds of music! THANKS! looking forward to all my lessons!
Students begin with the Rubank method. A strong emphasis is placed on the fundamentals of scales, ear training, sight reading, and music theory. Along with this we have fun playing the music student enjoys.
I have been teaching music for over 20 years and playing as a professional musician for even longer. I know how to get the best out of my students and have fun doing it. I'm a University of South Florida grad and I have worked and studies in Las Vegas and at the Berklee school of music. My students constantly win superiors at contest and sit in the upper chairs in band and orchestra. Lets have some fun and make some music.
*** Lesson Details *** In a laid back fun way we will learn the fundamentals of our instrument. I start out with the All For Strings series of books and add the Suzuki method books for some tunes. In 3 to 6 months you will be playing the music you like and having fun and learning new things while you do.
*** Studio Equipment *** Lessons in the living room or den
My focus as a teacher begins with the fundamentals of sound production. It is my belief and experience that, given strong fundamentals, one can learn to do anything else they need to on the horn. We will spend time breathing and developing beautiful tone, as well as practical application of these skills with actual music. We'll start with whatever music you are working on currently and will probably expand to other etude books and solo repertoire.
My name is Randall Smith, and I am excited to work with you! Music is my first love and playing trombone is what gets me out of bed every day. I am currently pursuing a bachelor's degree in trombone performance at Brigham Young University-Idaho. While my main emphasis is classical performance, I also study and play jazz. I have been principal/section leader or second chair in every auditioned ensemble on campus, including Symphony Orchestra, Symphony Band, Sound Alliance Big Band, and Chamber Brass. I also study music theory and composition in both classical and jazz idioms. My hope with this endeavor is to reach students who may not have an opportunity to take lessons otherwise, since I was unable to study privately through middle school and most of high school. I hope you'll invite me to join you in taking the next steps of your musical
As a teacher, I want to inspire passion. The trombone is my passion and I want to share it with you. Music is about creativity and expression and I want to help every one of my students experience this. I cater all my lessons to the student, but also want to help students establish a strong grasp of the fundamentals of music and the trombone. I hold a Master of Music in Studio Music and Jazz Trombone from the University of Miami, have worked in a variety of settings and styles, have been teaching for over 5 years, and can't wait to share my experiences with you!
My name is Hayden and I am a professional trombonist, composer, arranger, and educator in South Florida. I just finished touring the U.S., Canada, and Japan with the World-Famous Glenn Miller Orchestra, and now I want to impart the lessons I learned on the road with you. Before Glenn Miller, I completed a Masters Degree in Studio Music and Jazz Trombone Performance from the University of Miami and received a Bachelor of Music from the University of North Texas in Jazz Trombone Performance. I have been teaching private music lessons for the last four years and I have given public music clinics throughout the United States and Japan.
The goal of my lessons is to help students enjoy and understand music in a deeper way. Through listening, singing, clapping, and playing, I take students through material that we both like and help them exp
and their abilities and understanding. I cater my material to each person's needs while utilizing techniques from the history of music education to improve fundamentals.
As a professional musician, I perform a huge variety of styles for many occasions. As a former member of the Glenn Miller Orchestra, I am well-versed in traditional and modern jazz styles and improvisation as well as general performance techniques. I have also performed Afro-Cuban, Brazilian, and funk styles on many occasions. Between degrees, I performed on the cruise ships of Royal Caribbean and Celebrity Cruise Lines around the world for thousands of guests. During this time, I developed an understanding of classic Motown, Pop, R&B, Broadway Musical, and Rock styles. I was a member of the award-winning Bad Cactus Brass Band in my hometown of Phoenix, AZ and a member of the Los Wedos Salsa band in Denton, TX. I use these experiences to expose students to a wide variety of musical possibilities and techniques to further their journey as musicians.
Hayden has been teaching private Trombone lessons to my 13th year old son for over a year now. Hayden is organized and reliable; he is always on time, and has helped my son sound great. Hayden is passionate about Jazz, and knowledgeable. My son enjoys having a teacher that is as passionate as he is, and younger that the usual Trombone teachers we have found. :-)
Hayden has prepared my son for All State competitions, and for many concerts with his school and/or the jazz band my son performs outside of school. I recommend Hayden 100%!!!

Very friendly and talented! A great teacher with years and years of experience! Learned a ton! Thank you, Hayden!
Junior trombone performance student at Ohio University. I am an experienced beginning and intermediate private instructor and I will help you achieve better playing through tone development, proper instrument handling, and repertoire study among other things. I am very flexible as a teacher and I want you to have the teaching style that you need to learn! Shoot me a message and lets start improving!
"We don't need anyone else who plays trombone, we need more people who play music." -Shachar Israel - Assistant Principal Trombone - Cleveland Orchestra
I am a student studying Trombone performance at Ohio University through the Honors Tutorial College. I play in several ensembles across campus as well as performing in a low-brass trio semi-professionally.
Students can expect weekly practice assignments and a structured plan for improvement. My lessons focus primarily on the nuances of trombone playing, but will also cover setting goals, effective practice habits, maintaining motivation, related music theory, and the professional world of music. Students studying with me will not only gradually improve their instrument performance, but they will also be exposed to the successful musicians of our age and their teachings synthesized into a private lesson curriculum.
I want to help you harness your talent to improve your musicality and introduce you to one of the most inspiring art fo
My son is severly dyslexic and Nolan has been amazing. We used a different takelessons instructor for 6 months before we found Nolan and the difference in my son amd his level of playing has been substantial. We have been with Nolan for about 7 months, he is kind, patient, and very knowledgeable.

Nolan Miller is an excellent trombonist who possesses all the qualities to be an excellent trombone teacher: He is intelligent, organized, diligent, and has a passion for music. I have full confidence in his abilities to teach and inspire young trombonists.
Professional trombonist working in the NYC area. Experienced in teaching all styles of music to all ages and levels.
I have also taught many older students that want to rediscover their passion for music.
Lessons are customized and catered to the needs/goals of each student. Instead of simply training students to read music and play notes, I prefer to teach my students to think, play, and act like musicians.
My lessons feature improvisation skills, sight-reading, playing by ear, building a strong technical foundation and musical analysis. Lesson are also focused on staying engaged by playing new fun and challenging material. To me the most important thing is to have fun and to keep the passion we all have for music while gaining technical proficiency.
I assure you will see leaps of improvement by working with me!
I can’t wait to meet you!
I'm a professional trombonist with a strong musical background: I have a Bachelor of Fine Arts in Music Performance - Trombone from City College of New York and Im currently working on my masters at NYU. I have several years of experience teaching students of all ages and levels, and I have been working as a freelancer since I was 17.
I originally arrived in NYC from Argentina at 9-years old. The rich musical environment of NYC allowed me to study and absorb all styles of music at a young age.
I have had the opportunities to study with trombone masters such as Michael Dease, Jason Jackson, Alan Ferber, Ed Neumiester and Wycliffe Gordon. These learning experiences directly affect the development of my students.
I currently play in a wide range of musical situations all over NYC, from jazz combos and big bands, to musicals and c
lassical orchestras and even other genres such as Salsa, Reggea, Ska, Rock, Pop etc.
As my student, you will develop critical skills that will help build a strong musical foundation which will define you as a musician. I will evaluate the level in which you currently are and provide a clear defined path in order to reach our goals. One thing I strongly focus on is your love for music. My goal is not only to see you progress, but to nourish your love of music and have fun with what you are working on.
I can't wait to work with you and help you reach your goals!
He is a great teacher - calm, reasonable , knowledgable and encouraging
We have had one lesson with him, and look forward to our future lessons.

After a year away from playing the trombone, my son needed to get prepared to audition for the high school jazz band over the summer. Alejandro helped him get back up to speed and learn more about how what it means to be a jazz musician. Alejandro is able to connect and personalize lessons, and he is very flexible. My son made the jazz band, and is continuing work with Alejandro to help him advance.
Hello! Through my four years at the Juilliard School I have taken lessons with some of the worlds most prominent trombonists, including Elliot Mason, Steve Turre and Joe Alessi. In addition, I have a vast experience of teaching both classical and jazz students. I've created my own general lesson plan comprised of exercises I have received from these world renown teachers, as well as from other working professionals in NY.
I'm very quick to notice your skill level and create a cohesive, unique lesson plan catered to working on your weaknesses and polishing your strengths! A mediocre teacher will simply give you default exercises to work on-- a task better left to google. A good teacher, however, can diagnose a student and find the most efficient way for he/she to improve.
I promise to be a caring, fun, informative teacher. Please contact me for more information about my lessons.
Teaching is my biggest passion, I can't wait to work with you! Happy practicin'!
PS- ask ...
Hello! I'm Sam and I'm a graduate of the Juilliard School. I'm a huge music nerd and teaching is one of my biggest passions. For eight years, I have been teaching students of various ages and backgrounds, compiling lesson plans designed to work with students at ALL LEVELS. As a prominent NYC based jazz trombonist/bandleader/composer, I am more than qualified to teach any student. I have given numerous masterclasses, workshops, lessons and group lessons in everything from classical trombone technique to jazz history. I offer fun, cohesive lessons catered to your ability in the following subjects:
--Trombone (jazz and/or classical, beginning to advanced)
ok Sam is fantastic!
the connection was a little weird at first but it was on my end I think because the second I moved to my living room it was steady. Rather than find a local teacher I just figured to see if I could find someone affordable online, and wow, he also went to Juiliard!
6 out of 5!

I'm so lucky I found Sam! I used to play piano and was hoping to brush up on technique, learn jazz chords/harmony, and play along improvising with a jazz soloist. Getting a Juilliard trained musician for this price is a STEAL, I highly recommend.

I bounced around with a few other teachers who had flashy profiles, but none of them had as thorough, personalized, or challenging of an approach as Sam. He was so quick to diagnose my mistakes and had a way of making the trombone fun rather than frustrating (imagine that!!)
I have experience teaching brass: trumpet, trombone, euphonium, and tuba; for 5 years and have played professionally for 15 years. What is your goal? Are you an absolute beginner or are you semi-pro auditioning? I have taught students from ages 7 to 60, beginner and beyond. Whatever role music has in your life, I'd love to help you develop it whether its your hobby or your passion.
