My name is Milton Carl Jackson II and I teach vocal, guitar, piano, and musical theatre lessons in the Inland Empire area.

I help those young, middle-aged, and not-as-young tap into their own soul through music so that they may help others find theirs as well. I believe that in order to entertain others with your voice or your instrument, one must first be able to entertain oneself - all the while having fun doing it! As a recent graduate of the University of California, Davis with a double major in Music History & Ethnomusicology and African-American & African Studies; a former co-host of the popular hip-hop radio show ATF Radio: All Things Fresh on KDVS 90.3 FM; a former Music Director of The Afterglow of UC Davis; and a recent graduate of American University with a Master's of Education in Business Education
, I have come in contact and learned from a vast amount of different musicians and educators. A classically-trained bass-baritone with roots in R&B, Soul, Rock, Pop, and Jazz, I have aspirations to help each and every student realize their full musical potential.

I have been taking the world by surprise since the age of 4. I began studying at Queens College at 6 years old and was a recital pianist by the age of 12. I was a consumer of music, from the Music Theory lessons on Saturdays, piano lessons on Thursdays and voice lessons on Saturday afternoons, my life was filled with music.

It is to no one's surprise that I completed my first demo at the age of 13 and was performing for Queens Colleges audiences at 14. I went on the rank high in the NYSSMA series in both piano and voice. I also went on to study music in college and began touring with gospel troupes nationally. Charlie is a certified music teacher, who teaches in areas surrounding Wendell and travels to teach in the Raleigh, Zebulon and Knightdale areas. He teaches in his home in Wendell and travels to other areas on certain days. (See availability)

He first began teaching guitar and piano during his music studies at the University of Southern Mississippi in Hattiesburg, MS. At the university and after receiving his degree in music education, he has taught and performed in various musical settings and venues which has included the genres of classical, jazz, blues, rock, folk and country. Besides teaching and performing, Charlie also is a songwriter who writes songs for his groups performances and teaches his more advanced students songwriting.

Drawing upon his education and experiences as both performer and teacher, he strives to rel
ate his background to his student's learning experiences and progress. As each student comes with his or her individual musical wants and interests, student lessons are designed to meet these needs of a particular student. Charlie has young students of ages 5 to 14 as well as students of upper ages. According to a student's level of musicianship (beginner, advanced or in between), students are taught how to read music, music theory in relation to their progress, chords, scales and how to write/compose their own songs. He has designed a method of teaching which is full of great musical exercises & fun illustrations for the young student to enjoy while learning skills on their instrument.

For example, students can began with simple fingerings of chords & beginning melodies played in slow rhythms to allow the student to develop at a comfortable pace. Students that can not read music notation begin simple reading exercises of note recognition, time signatures, note values, eye hand coordination and more.

I design student lessons according the age, playing level and music related interests as lessons can cover a broad range of interests and musical styles. For my beginning students- to develop their understanding of playing chords and rhythms,
I teach chords as they relate to musical keys and some common rhythm patterns used in many popular songs.

For guitar students, I have designed & developed my own materials for guitar (sheets & accompanying CD) which guide students in practicing chords progressions, strum/rhythm patterns & scales/melodies in relation to chords. My students have shown much success in these methods of concentrating on developing that essential sense & feel for playing different rhythm styles. Piano instruction is centered on learning to read music notation and music theory as it relates to the student's progress.

As students advance, more emphasis is placed on improvising on melodies, different approaches to soloing and chord extensions and substitutions. Also, students are taught music theory as it relates to their progress to enable them to create their own music.

I have a good selection of method books and materials to fit each student's level of musicianship and choice of playing style(s) to extend upon their interests and goals.

My approach to teaching is to make lessons fun and enjoyable in a comfortable and relaxed setting to allow the student full
concentration on each lesson. But, also to provide the necessary guidance and encouragement to challenge and motivate students to improve and develop natural strengths and new skills.

I have a good selection of materials (many I've developed), extra instruments if needed and recording equipment. The student will need the instrument and an amp for electric guitar.

I began piano lessons with Charlie as a total beginner and he quickly helped me find my footing. He was always patient and encouraging and asking questions designed to make sure the lessons were structured in a way that would most efficiently achieve my own personal goals. I'm usually a pretty nervous person, but Charlie has a warm presence that makes it easy even for people like me to be able to open up and focus on what's important, the music. I highly recommend him to anyone who's been thinking about learning the piano but hasn't quite been able to take the plunge yet.

Seth is a good dude. I came across his profile with Take Lessons a month ago, after browsing through other instructors in my area and other schools in my area. He's got the experience and knowledge, so I connected with him for an initial lesson. It was a quick one to get introductions out of the way and a good idea of goals/direction. From there we further honed our plans for my instruction in an hour lesson and are directing our sights on my upcoming auditions. Seth has shown me through simple explanations of theory that his teaching style is very approachable, and additionally, was able to show me good technical skills on working my way around the horn, which is especially useful for someone like me in my twenties who already has a few bad habits (haha). Like I said, he's a good dude, good sense of humor so I feel at ease practicing with him and his knowledge is insane! Not only for saxophone but in so many other areas of music! You'd be doing yourself a favor to take at least an hour lesson from him and see how you go.

Seth and I had a great first lesson. I haven't played in a long time and he gave me helpful pointers on how to improve my embouchure. He gave me positive feedback on my rhythm and constructive feedback on my tone. We worked through some songs together. Next time I will probably ask him to play some more for me so I can hear what I need to improve for a particular song. I highly recommend him.

Broad background muscially, interesting, and effective communicator

I’m an adult who has played the piano for years on and off. Because of my prior experience I often ask questions that a beginner would not think about. Such as, is this a better scale fingering than the traditional one? Or what is a common key to use to accompany a sing-a-along group on a piano? Dorothea consistently provides intelligent and sometimes surprising answers to my questions.

She also is very focused on what you want to accomplish. Unlike past piano teachers, and I loved them all, who seemed intent on my learning the full classical literature, Dorothea asks what your main interest is. Is it composition, or playing, or arranging? Then she drives the lessons in that direction. Very customized lessons.

Another interesting example is scales. What’s new in that area, I thought? So she pulls out a book that has clearly defined levels of accomplishment. For example, if you can play the C major scale, quarter note = 80, with your left hand, you get one “point”. If you can do the same with your right, that’s another point. Playing with both hands together is yet another point. Playing both hands together but in contrary motion is another point. This pattern is repeated at increasing tempos and the number of points accumulated indicates your skill level. With that approach it’s not a matter of how long one practices but one practices long enough to reach a desired, measurable, skill level. I think that approach is novel and I had never seen it used before meeting Dorothea. In short, she is an interesting teacher with interesting ideas, methods, and very student focused. I don't think you will find a better teacher.

Born and raised in the suburbs of Chicago, at the age of 9, Natalie knew music was something that was just a part of who she was. Writing songs on the piano before lessons could be scheduled, Natalie found herself immersed in a medium that would bring her joy for the rest of her life.

By age 14 Natalie had won several trophies competing in Classical piano with the Illinois Music Association.

As a Father of four, I have had the joy in teaching my children Guitar, Saxophone, Songwriting, Composition and Keyboard. As a parent I have found that Patience and Encouragement is sometimes the best form of support. It has been proven that learning Music helps develop intuition, self-awareness, and social skills as well as improve in other subjects not directly
related to the arts such as Mathematics and Science.

One of the most important aspects of playing Music is being able to Play by Ear. This has been a priceless gift that I have developed throughout my life and I encourage all musicians, young and old, to do the same. The use of simple Rhythmic Dictation and Ear Training exercises can do wonders for "picking out" Beats and Harmonies no matter what Genre we are interested in.

I attended music courses at The Boston School of Contemporary Music, Thomas Jefferson College (MI), and have a BA double majoring in Music Composition and English at Columbia College Chicago.

Besides touring internationally as a Guitarist and Saxophonist, I am a Songwriter. THIRD BORDER's "Sun of Water; Sea of Light" was selected to be nominated for the Grammy's as The Best Alternative Album of the Year in 2006. On this record, I played Guitar, Saxophone, sang Lead Vocal and wrote all Songs. So, if you are a songwriter, we can polish up your approach!

If you would like to learn how to compose a Solo, a Duet or Ensemble, I can get you started in a low-stress, one-step-at-a-time procedure. My teaching style is relaxed with a forte on Patience and Encouragement. Though I have specific expectations on what needs to be learned, I gear each lesson towards the student's wishes and their personal direction in Creativity. Whether you are a beginner or an advanced student, I can guide you wherever you are headed!

For Guitar (acoustic or electric), you will learn the fundamentals of Music Theory, Chord Structure, varied Strumming and Picking Techniques, and Scale Positions to travel from one part of the neck to the other. Any song you wish to learn, I can teach!

For Saxophone, you will learn proper Embouchure technique, Notation, Music Theory, and Scale Patterns for improvisation. Whether you are interested in a Classical, Blues, Funk or Jazz approach, I can help you find your own sound that is both personal and professional.

I teach 2nd year Piano and Drums/Percussion directing you into Intermediate level.

For those leaning toward the experimental genres, I am well-versed in the use of Electronics. Much can be accomplished with my lessons on Sound-Scape Improvisation either as 1 on 1 or Group Workshops.

I am seventy years old and have absolutely no natural ability! Robert is patience and respectful, he always find something good about what I have learned. Very encouraging. My third lesson was the best as we both seemed more relaxed and get more comfortable. I like Robert.

Loralee began exploring music at a very young age, as part of a musical household. She enrolled in flute lessons at the age of 4, giving her solid roots in music theory and an appreciation for classical music. Her flute lessons later led her to take part in marching band and numerous musical ensembles. Aside from her love of music, 15 years of performing and studying dance led her to discover her joy in teaching when she began to teach creative movement and ballet to young dancers. In college, she began learning guitar and writing music to match a growing passion for songwriting and acoustic folk music. Her musical pursuits led her to join a local alt pop/punk band as a vocalist, and she performed with them in the surrounding area. After graduating with a B.A. at Michigan State University, Loralee began to pursue a career as a solo musici

Scott Mulligan is a multi-talented singer-songwriter and actor from Seattle, WA and a graduate from “Boston Conservatory at Berklee School of Music." After finishing a seven month run of the Broadway Musical "Tarzan" for Disney at Tuacahn Amphitheater where he played the lead role as Tarzan for 3,000 people a night, Scott moved to Raleigh, NC to pursue his music career. Since being in Raleigh, Scott has had the chance to work with super producer Sam Harmonix along with several other incredibly talented local musicians and producers. Scott has also had the chance since his arrival to perform his original music on the runway at Charlotte Fashion Week, be apart of the cast of Gypsy at North Carolina Theatre, and perform his original music in downtown Raleigh at the Pour House Music Hall!

As a fully trained singer, actor, and dancer
from the #1 music school in the country “Boston Conservatory at Berklee School of Music” where Scott received his Bachelor of Performing Arts in Musical Theatre with an emphasis in songwriting, he surpasses the qualifications for teaching the craft more than the majority of people.
