Beginning to Intermediate Drum lessons and beats that are actually used in today's and yesteryear's "hit songs".

It's no secret, drums is the backbone or "foundation" to any hit song.

I break down drumming to its most basic rudiments so that you will grow by leaps and bounds instead of just crawling along.

You have to walk before you can run so getting it right initially is very important to moving forward and getting you playing your favorite songs quickly and accurately..

About Matthew
Hi.. My name is Matt. I'm a very energetic, friendly, understanding & passionate music coach who has worked with students & clientele throughout the US. Possessing more than 25 years of music training & music industry experience, I've been able to take people's Playing to amazing levels.

In my musical travels I've networked or shared the stage with many famous NW music legends:
1.) Roger Fisher- Heart-2013 Rock-n-Roll Hall of Fame Inductee
2.) Lynn Sorensen- Paul Rogers/Bad Co/KZOK's Spike & Impalers
3.) Donny Evola - Geoff Tate/Former Queensryche/Foghat
4.) Jeff Kathan- Paul Rogers/Bad Company/Montrose
5.) Doug Mcgrew- Geoff Tate/Former Queensryche Singer/Operation Mindcrime
6.) Update - For the last year I have been playing off and on with Rudy Parris from NBC TV's "The Voice". Season 3 - Team Blake. He is an incredible music
ian and I'm proud to call him and his manager my friends. His new album coming out is nothing short of amazing.

In fact everyone I've mentioned above are pro all the way and great guys as well. I"m honored to have played with them.

I challenge my students to view music more than just as a "skill", but also a tool to communicate effectively and to combat life's obstacles.

I have had many guitar teachers myself including one true Famous Rock Star legend here in Pacific NW. Congrats Rog. U Earned It, & inspire myself, & others everyday.

You got to know the rules 1st, before you can then break the rules. This is how you develop your own unique style. And it's what separates the Pro Players from the rest of the pack.

But even if you don't want to play professionally, maybe you just want to learn a few chords, licks, songs, for yourself, or to impress friends. That's okay too!

I welcome every level and style. I always learn something from my students.
That's what music is all about. Learning & trading tips and licks from other musicians.

Bottom Line Is... I can help you learn and progress on your instrument faster...

Let me be the Music Coach to get you there!

Matthew is clearly a superb instructor and extremely knowledgeable musician. By asking a few questions and listening to the responses (this was my first lesson with Matthew) he was able to quickly assess my skill level. As a result of his assessment, he used an appropriate instructional technique and developed a lesson plan specifically for me. His approach toward teaching is solid; I say that as someone who has a Masters Degree in Teaching! He encouraged me to build a goal plan (short and long term) and clearly identified a practice routine that will help me achieve those goals. I'm already looking forward to the next lesson. Thank you Matthew!

Understanding and feeling time signature, arrangements from various genres, grooves, subdivisions, stick drills, accents, and musicality.

About Joel
I started playing recognizable melodies on the piano at 18 months old. At that time I was told that I even had perfect pitch. By age 5, my mother started giving me classical, gospel, and improvisational lessons. I was one of her 50 students until my senior year in high school. Through elementary, junior high, and high school, I received a lot of performance experience from school marching/concert bands, choirs, church choirs, piano concerts, band/choral conducting, and composing.

I received my BBA in Finance from the University of Texas at Arlington; through college and to the present, I have received over 25 years of performing/directing experience from overseeing two mega-church music ministries. At these ministries, I served as the department head, responsible for lead piano, directing, arranging, worship leading, and departmen
tal oversight.

I have produced 10 personal instrumental projects, and I have produced and recorded over 40 projects for other local, regional, and international artists. I currently travel with national, jazz, recording saxophonist, Joseph Vincelli, and my personal band Zamar. We have performed with a number of acts from Kirk Franklin, Darren Rahn, Kirk Whalum, Boney James, Fred Hammond, and many more.

As an instructor, I have been blessed with an ability to be relatable, relevant, musical, creative, fun, and engaging. I understand the language of music as a performer, and instructor, but most importantly, I value the ability to help the student find their own path of learning the joy of making music vocally and instrumentally. With over 18 years of private teaching experience and 30 years of group experience, I have gained a wealth of knowledge on how to be instructive and personal with the young or older beginner, intermediate and even advanced players. Let's grow together musically.

*** Lesson Details ***
My teaching style is very laid back, although goal-oriented. We have fun while seeing progress. For piano, I typically use the Alfred Series "Alfred Basics 1 - 6" or the Adult All-in-One for the Older Beginner. In the first 3 - 6 months, one will become familiar with basis technics and concepts behind creating music. These concepts will be the foundation behind learning how to read music, play by ear, and create your own songs in any style.

We would move a little faster for the older beginner and work through the Alfred's All in One in conjunction with introducing my 5 steps to performance for any popular style. These steps have been very valuable for those that are wanting to play piano, guitar, bass, or even sing.

For vocalist, I work through Estelle Liebling, Vocal Course, Alfred Piano (as an instrumental reference) and a number of practical performance techniques that I have gained over the years to sing in more of a pop, jazz, gospel setting. We will work on performance techniques and develop the ear to gain confidence to perform in various popular settings. I will also introduce creative ways to make up original music using basic theory and ear training.

Beginners- We focus quite a bit on developing a split foundation of rhythm. This included written notation and basic rhythmic dictation. We start learning how to feel rhythm, and play simple drum beats or patterns well

Intermediate- In addition to the above info, we start to learn more advance techniques, and how to incorporate them into playing the drums.

About Joseph
Joseph Rincón has been honing his abilities on the guitar for over eighteen years and has performed extensively throughout the United States and in Spain. He earned his B.M. in Performance degree from The University of North Carolina at Charlotte, as well as receiving a formal recognition as “Outstanding Performer” by the faculty of the department of music. He also received two additional recognition and scholarships from the University of North Carolina at Pembroke for his exceptional skill in music performance.

In 2017, he completed the Máster en Interpretación de Guitarra Clásica program at the Universitat d'Alacant, in Alicante, Spain. During his time in Spain, he studied closely with world-renowned guitarists such as Manuel Barrueco, Xavier Díaz-Latorre, Pepe Romero, Fabio Zanon, and Grammy-Award winning guitarist David Russell.

Over the years, he has been recognized for his outstanding musicality and his passionate performances. His guitar playing and musicianship has been described as “a combination of deep and moving musical ideas with beautiful sound and refined technique”. His performances are energetic and highly expressive, whether he is performing for a large audience or a small and intimate gathering.

In addition to frequently performing in the Charlotte, Lake Norman, and surrounding areas, he is also an inspired music teacher. He teaches various styles of guitar, including electric and steel-string acoustic guitar, as well as different musical genres such as rock, blues, and folk. As an instructor, he wants to share his love of music with his students, and his goal is to awaken the musical potential in them. Paul does a great job of balancing the theoretical and applied. He focuses on developing strong fundamentals and good habits but also delves into songs that apply new skills learned along the way at the appropriate pace. As a beginner, Paul has helped me get off to a good start where I'm learning a lot but also having a lot of fun.

A big plus is that he's got a real down-to-earth personality that makes the lessons even more enjoyable and really interesting to talk to about all things drums and otherwise.

James is an excellent voice teacher. He is very thorough in terms of explaining the concepts behind a proper singing voice (which is something I was missing in my approach to singing). He also takes the time to thoroughly answer any questions you may have as they come up during your lessons.

Drumming is challenging, and rewarding, but It's also supposed to be FUN ... it is for me, and I want my students to have some of that fun, too! I've played drums for 38 years and have taught since 1992. I use a wide variety of professional experiences along with my education background to help students of all ages reach their personal goals, whether it's to just play along with their favorite top-40 tunes, reach for more advanced music, or get ahead in their school's music program. I highly encourage feedback and student input regarding what we will work on together!

About Luc
After drumming for almost 40 years, I feel like I've nearly done it all, having played played Rock, small and big group Jazz, Classic R&B/Soul, Fusion, Funk, Folk, Reggae/World Music, Top-40, Heavy Rock, Classic and Contemporary Country, Blues, Electronic, Theater, and Cinematic/Soundtrack music.

I was self-taught at first by listening and playing along with recordings, and then studied under Maine greats Dick Demers and Steve Grover, and attended the University of Maine-Augusta in the Jazz and Contemporary music program. During the past few years, I've also started to play the Chapman Stick, and I've increased the amount of hand percussion in his bag of tricks.
My reputation in the Maine music scene is as a solid, first-rate musician, and throughout all of this, I've appeared on many recordings. I'm now the drummer in the 80’s part
y/dance band “The GE3KS” and in the original band “Goss”, with an Adult Contemporary/Alt Rock album currently being written and recorded, as well as hard rock originals with Jerry Perron, with an alum completed and slated for mastering at Abbey Road Studios over the summer and fall of 2017.

I've taught drum set in one-on-one settings since 1992, first at Spectrum Music in Lewiston and Brunswick, Maine, then at The Music Centre in Brunswick, and at The Drum Shop in Portland, as well as in my own home. I've also lectured at summer percussion camps, and authored a drum method book, "Beginning Drum Set Coordination," and published the first edition in 2004, with an updated second edition printed in 2016. In mid-2016, I re-joined the teaching staff at The Drum Shop, and shortly after joined the staff at The Midcoast School of Music, also in Portland.

Since November of 2016, I have been an artist endorser for Rich Sticks. Check them out; they make a fantastic quality product and they're a top-notch crew!

About Granville
I operate in the music arena as a touring musician; a Music Director for musicals, jazz ensembles and choirs; a composer & songwriter; a band teacher at my local elementary school, a private instructor and a producer with a degree in Jazz Composition and Professional Music from Berklee College of Music. I am currently performing and writing with Divinity Roxx (Beyonce, Victor Wooten, etc.), Elle Winston, Kate Vargas and others. Most of my writing and creating is done here in my private studio. I am proud to have produced tracks featured by the likes of Elton John on his Beats 1 Radio (Apple Music) station. That is to say, I'm really proud of the artists and having such an inspired space.

I have, and continue to be honored to perform all over the world with some of the most prolific players this planet has seen and those it will experi

I have taught privately since I was in high school on my own. Over the years, I have also been affiliated with some amazing entities. Additionally, my work in arts administrative (Brooklyn Academy of Music -BAM, UVA Music) translates into my ability to show you skills that will garnish success when you aren't playing music.

My students can expect growth in knowledge of rhythm, understanding of music and song forms. Your timing will improve! Your feel for styles (blues, rock, jazz, hip hop, EDM, etc.) will improve! Your technique will be through the roof!! I empower my students to do whatever they can dream to do with music, whether it is for personal enrichment or personal ambition.

I will demystify anything you feel is outside of your reach and grow you into the musician you want to be. My private studio is a fully equipped playground for the musically-minded with all the tools and materials you need to grow as a musician, so all you need to bring is your imagination. I look forward to the journey.

With currently over 17 years of drumming experience, 10 years of performing and working professionally in the Rock/Metal industry, and being featured on tons of recordings, interviews, and magazines. I will take each of my students with their specific set of goals and cater each lesson directly to whatever it might be. Whether its sticking technique, rudiments, genre specific, polyrhythms, groove technique, composition, understanding sheet music, tech questions, playback rigs, and then some. I'm here to share what I've learned along the way and to continue learning from everyone else!

About Charles
Growing up I played in numerous bands over the years in Las Vegas. I started touring with my own bands just before my final semester of high school and haven't stopped since. Throughout middle school and high school I was a staple member of the drum line. Playing everything from snare drum to bass, quads/quints, cymbals, and drum set. All while playing shows and festivals with my bands outside of school.

Since the start of my touring career and working for numerous production companies, I have played for and worked with artists such as This Romantic Tragedy (Tragic Hero Records Alumni), Survive This (Epitaph Records Alumni), Big and Rich, Gladys Knight, Rick Springfield, Distinguisher (Artery Global), Trey songs, T.I., Asia feat. John Payne, Robert Delong, and plenty more.

Currently I play for a band called A Friend, A Foe. We have tw
o EPs out along with plenty of singles and are currently working on our first full length record. We have performed on festivals here in Las Vegas such as Las Rageous, Vans Warped Tour, Extreme Thing, and have toured the country only to keep touring more in hopes of going abroad. I am also a drum tech for a few different drummers and bands locally and touring.

The purpose of my lessons program is to cultivate a fun and inspiring learning environment. I wish to create an atmosphere where the student feels like they are part of the family and not just merely there to take in information. I will also ask the student what they want to learn and create a personal lesson plan around that to help them achieve their goals. Everybody is different when it comes to learning (the one size fits all approach does not work). I will personally find the best way to teach each student and have them learn at the pace they are most comfortable with.

About Kody
Kody was born on February 13, 1993 into a musical family in Los Angeles, California. His mother, Traci Wood, is a singer and his father, Skip Van Winkl, is an organ player. Inspired by his parents, Kody started to play the drums at the age of thirteen. He also started taking drum lessons with the great Jeff Winter. Through playing music with his father and studying with Jeff, Kody developed his skills and sound as a drummer.
Kody has played with The Nukes, Alex Shofler, Chris Mobbs, Suppose We Run, Old Town Electric, and Skip Van Winkl (Bob Seger, Eric Burdon). He has also worked with many producers including Bryan Carlstrom (Alice in Chains, The Offspring), Alex Cantrall (Beyonce, Zendaya), and Gene Shiveley (The Rolling Stones, Ella Fitzgerald, P!nk). Kody has also performed in showcases for major record labels including Interscop
e Records, Capitol Records, Warner Brothers Records, and Universal Music Group.

Kody is a great teacher! He is very patient and easy to talk to, which makes the lessons fun and non intimidating. He had me playing a drum beat at the end of my first lesson!
