I teach what the student is most interested in. I can work in multiple styles.. The student will pick a song that they love to work on. My lessons encourage an ear (not just an eye). Focused on hand eye coordination exercise.

About Michael

Music has always been my biggest passion, and drums my biggest passion within music. I am a fully self-taught drummer, but don't mistake that for a lack of belief in having a great teacher by your side. I realize as I reflect on my fifteen years of drum playing that having a patient but hard-work

Colin took the right amount of time to get to know my son and his skill level so that he could begin the instruction with what’s most relevant to my son. Colin was very patient and encouraging through out the lesson. My son is excited to come back for more lessons.

My name is Robin Rapsys and as a drummer, I have booked, performed, and toured in small jazz combos, rock groups, and metal bands. I have also recorded and engineered drums and percussion for rock bands, film & TV, and jazz combos. Combine all that experience with years of teaching private and group lessons at a music academy and you will find a wide range of topics to learn about within the entire music industry. I teach out of my home recording studio in Prior Lake, MN where I record tracks on a regular basis. This gives my students an opportunity to get recording experience during their lesson.

About Robin

I offer drum lessons for beginner, intermediate, and advanced students supported by real-life experience in teaching at a music academy, touring and performing in bands, recording at my home studio, writing and reading music, advanced styles, etc.

I teach drum set and marching percussion, teaching for four years. I teach both tenor and snare drum for marching.

Lessons are tailored to the individual student and their experience, goals, and materials available. Having the respective instrument at the teaching location is preferred, but the minimum materials required are drumsticks, a drum pad, and a stand for the drum pad.

Drum set students should expect to learn the basics of technique and drum set-up. From there, lessons are tailored to the individual student, specifically what genres they are interested in. For beginners, I use "The Best Beginner Drum Book" by Drumeo.

Marching percussion students learn a heavier emphasis on technique, constantly being implemented into lessons. Students learn a variety of musical pieces and see technical and musical growth through each piece.

About Kevin

I've been involved in music since fifth grade loved it since! As a performer, I was heavily involved in my high school's music program being involved in: the advanced jazz band (drum set), advanced choir (baritone), musical pit (drum set/auxiliary percussion), show band (vibraphone/tenor drums), an

Lydia was very welcoming and kind, and put me at ease during our first lesson. She knew I wanted to work on mallet percussion, and had a lesson plan ready for me on the marimba. She moved at a pace that worked for me, and I already feel as though I have learned some basics. I'm excited to continue my lessons with her!

Lydia's teaching style is fantastic! As an older learner, she was very patient and understanding with me while still helping me reach my goals. She taught me many different ways of playing and different styles. It is a pleasure to be taught by such a remarkable percussionist!

Preparing for a Drum Audition: Cruise Ship Musician Gig

A few weeks ago we discussed how to prepare for a gig, but what if you're stuck on the very first step of getting through the audition? Check out this expert advice from DC-area drum teacher Andrew T., who has experience working as a musician for Princess Cruises:   As musicians, most of our gigs stem from informal auditions, which are typically very loose and relaxed. But what happens when you are asked to audition formally for a gig with a large corporation? From 2007 to 2009 I worked …
