Private Flamenco Guitar Teacher

Able to help students at beginner to intermediate level. Teach them rasquado and improvisation, also give them solid general right hand, left hand technique.

About Joseph

My Story:

As a guitarist in my early years I spent much time reworking my technique and gaining insight in how guitar playing really works. My early struggles gave way to a solid knowledge of the guitar and music.

This was gained through no small part through my High School music teacher, through master classes of Manuel Lopez Ramos and Abel Carlevaro and others.

These master classes helped me in a big way to develop teaching systems and principles that can help anyone to learn guitar easier and more effectively.

You will gain from the knowledge of these world class guitarists and teachers which will help you to play better and more musical.

And from my musical background-of playing hundreds of songs and compositions of many styles and understanding o

f musical structure.

Teaching philosophy

I will give you simple technical training to help the hands work together and develop a musical sound. As I teach I look for your gifts (in creativity, musical playing etc) and actively look to enhance that gift.

When problems come along in your studies, I help you to solve them in a way you can apply them for yourselves. Teach and show students how music works and how to play artistically.

How to Start

Will work with you to find a convenient time/day to schedule lessons at your home or our studio

There is a money back guarantee on the 1st lesson so you can try and see how lessons can help you to reach your goals. Selecting the "get started now" button will put you in contact with our student counselors.

P.S. Take the first step in learning music by contacting us.

*** Lesson Details ***
Teaching for over 13 years in all major styles. Helping beginning or returning students of all ages (kids and adults). and backgrounds to learn music.Have taught all ages from 5 to 60 years old.

Will work to develop a personalized plan specifically for you and/or your child or family member.

Studied at Roosevelt University as a classic guitar major with music education and jazz studies.

Give students a well rounded education in all the major styles-techniques, teaching them finger picking as well as pick technique, chords and improvisation.

I specialize in building a strong foundation both musically and technically for people that have not played guitar or even music before and helping them to reach the musical goals they desire.

For the pick guitar I use the Mel Bay method along with handouts for chords/exercises and finger picking patterns This gives you flexibility to explore many musical styles.

For classic guitar I use the Sagreras or Parkening methods plus the same handouts as for pick guitar.

For electric bass I use the Hall Leonard Method, plus handouts.

I teach children how to practice and to keep a practice schedule.

I operate with a patient approach, a comfortable learning process. This helps you to learn properly and builds a solid foundation for your playing.

Lesson Progression

In general after 3 months you will know all the basic chords and how to change them. How to play the blues scale, read music /tab plus some songs with basic chords.

For the electric bass you will play blues patterns, read music and tab.

After 6 months you will be in general able to play bar chords, and more complex songs (with full chords).

For the electric bass more complex songs, movable major scales.

Keep in mind as you move through these studies you will be enjoying playing music and be moving towards the goal you had in mind in taking up music including learning the music, the styles you wanted to play.

*** Studio Equipment ***
I can provide a music stand and a foot stool. I can get them or show them where to get a method book They would just need a guitar.

*** Travel Equipment ***
I can teach lessons at the students home in Des Plaines, Park Ridge, Morton Grove, Skokie, Wilmette and adjoining communities.

*** Specialties ***
Be encouraged that you and/or your family member can learn to play and it's not as hard as you think.

What I have found is it takes no special talent to play the guitar, just the desire to practice and learn. Lessons with a teacher helps you to learn quicker and more problem free, unlike other approaches. A teacher can help you personally when you have problems and questions. The investment you make will help you or a family member to play music for many years...

Teach most major styles folk, rock, blues, classical, finger picking, Jazz (Bossa Nova)
Also gospel, praise and worship guitar.

Private Flamenco Guitar Teacher

I studied flamenco guitar for 8 years under the instruction of Tomas de Utrera, NIco Angel and Rodrego Carteras. It is an expressive, percussive style of classical guitar that derives from Spanish and gypsy folk music.

About Ayme

Music can be as simple or as intricate as you want to make it. I will to teach you how to make the most of whatever knowledge and skill you have and to have fun while you do it. My tastes are all across the board, rock and roll, country, metal, opera, I love it all. So, let me know what you are into and we can go from there.
I started playing guitar about 20 years ago and have fronted several bands that have played all over Chicago and beyond. Although I have studied ethnomusicology, theory, and composition in college, I owe my greatest debt to the Chicago musicians who inspired and later taught me. I began my private studies in flamenco guitar with Tomas de Utrera, Kelan Phil Cohran voice and theory, Hamid Drake instructed me on hand drumming, and from Rockin' Johnny Burgin I learned about the soul of blues guitar. Music is my first

love, and continues to be an endless fascination for me.

*** Lesson Details ***
I believe the pursuit of musical knowledge and skill should be a fun adventure and therefore, in each and every lesson with me I hope that there is laughter. I like to start off finding out what you are interested in learning, then I will create a curriculum based on those interests. I like to get students going right away playing songs so they don't get bored. By the end of three months you should have a nice little repertoire of 6 or so songs in different keys and a beginning knowledge of your instrument and by six months we will have moved into scales, solos and a bit of theory based on your progression.

*** Studio Equipment ***
Living room, street parking. I have plenty of guitars, amps, pedals and tuners here. I also have audio recording software so we can record your lesson.

*** Travel Equipment ***
I have guitar and tuner, student should also have a guitar.

*** Specialties ***
I would say I am best a teaching rock and blues guitar. I have also studied theory and flamenco guitar and would be able to teach beginners.

Private Flamenco Guitar Teacher

Diego Alonso is one of the U.S.'s most experienced guitarists specializing in Spanish, Classical, Flamenco, Flamenco Jazz, Latin, and Latin Jazz. He has traveled to over 15 countries to perform and teach in the last 17 years and has given over 10,000 private guitar lessons, workshops, clinics, lectures, and masters classes.

Diego Alonso began studying brass instruments at the age of 8 and nylon string guitar at age 17. At age 21 he discovered flamenco and since began traveling to Spain annually to study flamenco guitar. In early 2010 he moved to Seville to attended the Fundación Cristina Heeren de Arte Flamenco where he studied under Pedro Sierra, Niño de Pura, Paco Cortés, Eduardo Rebollar, Tino Van Der Sman, Javi Gomez, and Pepa Sanchez. Diego graduated with Highest Honors in Flamenco Guitar Performance from the Fundación in 2012. In addition to his studies in flamenco music, Diego has taken master classes and workshops with Flavio Rodrigues, Jose Luis Rodriguez, and Juan ...

About Diego

"Diego is a fantastic teacher and guitarist. He is generous and patient, encouraging and effective. Diego has the ability to simplify difficult technique and break it down in simple terms. His studies in Spain make him a rare and sought after teacher in Chicago. In short, Diego has given me the keys to succeed in this beautiful and challenging art form. I wholeheartedly recommend him!"
-- Marty M. (M.A. Education, B.A. Jazz Guitar, Professional Guitarist)

After 18 annual visits to Spain to study with master flam

enco teachers, Diego finally moved to Seville for 3 years where he graduated with honors in flamenco guitar performance from the Fundacion Cristina Heeren de Arte Flamenco. While living in Spain Diego developed his knowledge and skill by performing flamenco guitar 2-4 nights a week with some of Spain's top up and coming flamenco performers. His extensive training and experience in flamenco guitar make him a highly qualified teacher in the field.

Lessons are based on time-tested methods in guitar pedagogy as well as on up-to-date scientific research in the neurological and psychological processes of skill acquisition and expertise. My goal, as a teacher, is to help students learn HOW to practice effectively and efficiently in order to develop the neurological pathways necessary to form, improve, and maintain high-level, musical skills.

WHAT KIND OF GUITAR DO YOU NEED?
For flamenco or classical lessons you will need a nylon-string guitar (e.g., classical or flamenco), NOT a steel string guitar. If you don't own a nylon-string guitar, you can certainly rent one, but it must be available to you for home practice AT LEAST 6 days/week. Flamenco guitars must have a "golpeador" (tap-plate) installed. I recommend getting it professionally done with a permanent tap-plate.

Private Flamenco Guitar Teacher

I specialize in flamenco guitar, one of the most challenging styles of guitar playing. The techniques and fundamentals of flamenco are valuable resources for any guitarist, regardless of genre or style. While everything is taught through the filter of flamenco, students will gain a wealth of knowledge applicable to the guitar in general.

One can expect to start by developing a full technical routine aimed at developing stamina, strength, precision, and speed. All fundamental techniques will be introduced, including arpeggios, rasgueados, pulgar, alzapúa, picado, tremelo, ligado, and golpe. Rhythm plays a critical role in flamenco and will be emphasized throughout. Harmony studies will be introduced where appropriate. Repertoire will be given according to each student's capabilities and tastes, including resources for accompanying dance and singing.

My own teachers have included master guitarists Pedro Sierra, Pedro Barragán, and Paco Cortés. I'm also influenced by the music of ...

About Gustavo

PERSONAL BIO

I am a North American flamenco guitarist currently living in Sevilla, Spain. My music is grounded in traditional flamenco and incorporates elements of jazz, classical, and world music. My fascination with music and the guitar began early, and I picked up the instrument in earnest at the age of 19. Starting on electric guitar, my focus switched to flamenco after a few years. My initial curiosity towards flamenco quickly became a full-fledged obsession, as I was enamored with the strength, depth, and complexity of the art form.

Initially self-taught, I later refined my playing with several of North America’s top flamenco guitarists. In spring of 2014, I independently recorded Punto Lejano, my first full-length studio album, at Empty Sea Studios in Seattle, WA. This original flamenco-jazz album draws on a variety of music

al sources.

In 2017, I was awarded a Fulbright performing arts fellowship to pursue intensive flamenco studies in Sevilla, Spain, at the Fundacion Cristina Heeren de Arte Flamenco. Here I deepened my knowledge of flamenco under the tutelage of master guitarists Pedro Sierra, Pedro Barragán, and Paco Cortés. I still reside in Sevilla and will remain here through summer of 2019 for additional musical studies with Eduardo Rebollar of Artes Escenicas Rebollar.

I'm also influenced by the music of Paco de Lucía, Pepe Habichuela, Manolo Sanlúcar, Tomatito, Moraíto Chico, and Miguel Ángel Cortés.

TEACHING APPROACH

My approach towards teaching prioritizes the student's self-described goals. If students want to be challenged and pushed hard, I push them hard. If simply enjoying the instrument is most important, that's perfectly okay too. I believe it's impossible to separate technique from other aspects of one's musicality, such as expression. Therefore, all students will start with the fundamentals of technique and will build on this as they move into the study of rhythm, harmony, accompaniment resources, and more. The responses to the Student Questionnaire, along with a short, introductory discussion, will allow us to create a plan tailored to each student.

I believe all healthy learning relationships start with respect, and not just from student-to-teacher, but also from teacher-to-student. I've always felt the best teachers are those capable of uncovering and giving life to the strongest qualities already present within a student. Therefore, I encourage all students to be proactive and engage in their own learning plan. My primary role is to be the guide.

To paraphrase the great flamenco singer Enrique Morente: "In flamenco there are no teachers, only disciples."

He teaches not just guitar, but also how to practice. Diego is incredibly friendly and makes learning something so difficult manageable and fun!"

"I have been studying Spanish Guitar with Ed for 3 or 4 years and he is one of the best instructors I have ever worked with. He is a gifted player and perf
ormer and his work ethic and professionalism as an instructor are unmatched.

I am probably one of Ed's more challenging students due to my hectic schedule which interferes with my practice time but we have covered a lot of ground studying basic techniques and styles such as Flamenco, Rumba, Bulerias, Sevillanas, and Tango. Ed is always prepared and is uncannily able to pick up our lessons exactly where we left off the week before. He is able to diagnose problems with technique and work with me to correct them and suggest practice methods to improve technique and the musicality of the performance. Fortunately I have many technical issues so Ed will be gainfully employed for some time on my account!

Ed performs regularly and has a large repertoire in popular music as well as flamenco guitar. I have seen him perform with a flamenco dance group and he was brilliant. I asked him to perform at a small event I helped organize and his performance was enjoyed by all. I highly recommend Ed as a flamenco guitar instructor or as a performer."
