Everything from rudiments, coordination, dynamics, different styles and genres, picking up drum parts by ear and letting your inner musical imagination speak through the drum set will be the focus of my teaching. I also specialize in band dynamics such as rehearsing, performing, organizing and getting a band together. We'll learn a lot and most of all, we'll have a ton of fun doing it!

Hi! My name is T.J. and I am a professional drummer and educator currently living in Forest Park, IL. I received my B.A. in Jazz Studies from Elmhurst College in the Spring of 2019. I have been playing professionally in Chicago and it's surrounding suburbs for over five years now, and have played the drum set for 13 years.

I am very passionate about my craft, and absolutely love spreading that knowledge with others and inspiring them to the best of my ability. I am well versed in many styles, including Rock, Jazz,, Fusion, Funk, World Music, and Classical Percussion.

I am active in many bands, such as Instrumental Rock/Fusion band Elysian Green and Folk/Rock band Fleeting Suns (check either out on spotify!) I've been lucky enough to record and share the stage with famous Chicago musicians, such as Chris Siebold, Mark Colby, Frank Caruso, Jeremy Khan, and Marlene Rosenberg, among others. Taking drum lessons online is a great option at this time. I have taught drum lessons for 47 years and have been a band instructor in the public schools. I emphasize good technique, sight-reading skills, improvisation and applying these skills to repertoire in preferred styles. I primarily teach beginning snare drum and bass drum students.

I've been teaching drum set for 5 years. Within the first few lessons, you'll be able to properly hold a pair of sticks and as time goes on you'll be able to effectively keep time, and play along to songs. I specialize in rock, fuck, pop, and blues drumming. In my lessons I typically us the instructional books Syncopation by Ted Reed and the Drummer's Bible by Mick Berry. At lessons I have two drum sets, drum pads, sticks, brushes, music stands, and various drum books. I love working with students of all ages and experience levels and am excited to teach.
