I am an award-winning song writer with professional and personal experience in the local music scene as well as the national and commercial areas. I've studied piano, guitar, music theory, songwriting writing. I even dabbled in a professional music career, writing and performing across New York City, the SF Bay Area, and Nashville. While still quite young myself, I began writing at a very young age. I took both instrument and songwriting lessons for many years and have won awards in both local and international songwriting competitions.

I love working with teens and young adults but have also worked with much more experienced musicians. I have experience writing with up and coming local artists and Nashville musical veterans. I can teach and guide your songs to be stronger with:
- structure and flow
- melodies that fit the mood of the song
- "catchiness"
- rhymes
- creative word choice
- writing for radio/tv/film
- writing for performance
- harmonies and instrument ...

When I worked with Triana, she was very helpful in helping me revise and reconstruct one of my original songs. She was a very constructive co-writer and instructor, as she helped make sure that each section of my song had a purpose and was impactful. Overall, Triana has a lot to offer to up and coming songwriters who may want an experienced musician or writer’s valuable input.

Triana was great with my two daughters that desperately wanted to learn how to write their own songs. She was patient and listened to them. They've both gained a lot more confidence and love bringing their songs to her each week!

When I first took lessons with Triana, I thought I was a pretty good song writer. Looking back I can see how much I have improved. I always felt like my songs could be better, but I didn't know how I could get them to the place I wanted. Triana has an uncanny ability to hear the best version of your song and guide you towards it. I never felt like she was writing for me, but helping me hear the places in my own song that needed work. I feel like my songs are so much stronger now and, more importantly, I can see the places in my own song that need work and can make them better on my own!

About Ian

I started playing guitar originally in 1991. I picked up bass and ukulele (and then over the ensuing years, gradually a plethora of other instruments, such as voice, drums, piano, and harp). I started teaching in 2001 throughout the Chicagoland area. First in music stores, then schools, then people

I have taken guitar lessons in the past and wanted to revisit one of my passions again. I decided to take lessons with Ian since he is in my neighborhood and I’m really glad I did. Ian has been very patient and attentive to my learning style. As our lessons have progressed so has the direction of each class. It’s really cool to see how all the concepts we have gone over build on each other. I feel like Ian really goes above and beyond to learn about his students and what they are hoping to achieve. Ian has also been very flexible with my work schedule. After several months of lessons with Ian I can say I’ve learned several things from finger picking, timing, and reading notes. I can’t wait to continue my journey!

I wish I could leave a review on his teaching but unfortunately, I couldn't even experience his teaching prowess. I gifted 5 in-home guitar lessons to my fiance as a birthday present. After speaking to Takelesson representatives I was told that we were in Ian's in home radius. Ian did not teach my fiance because he did not find "parking", which felt like a little bit of an unreasonable answer. When my fiance asked to be taught on weekdays he declined that too and instead offered online classes. The point of in-home is flexibility and 1:1 attention and we were disappointed that we could not have that opportunity due to how unaccommodating it felt. Would like to leave feedback to both Ian and Takelessons to include these nuances as customers are often really excited only to be let down.

Ian is an incredible teacher. Very patient and professional. The way he teaches is very straight forward and easy to understand. I can’t wait to learn more & more... less than a week has passed since my lesson. I already feel so comfortable with my ukulele,
All the utube lessons were useless for me. I realized this after 1 lesson with Ian. The frustration factor on utube was a waste of time for me. I am so happy I chose ian & this company.
Thank you so much, jen

Jonathan is truly outstanding. I was fortunate enough to meet him and begin working on guitar again with him in person when he lived in Virginia. He was so helpful I have continued lessons online and I continue to feel the quality and what I'm getting out of the lessons is as good as when we were able to be in the same room. The best thing I can probably say is that I have really enjoyed learning from such an accomplished musician while never feeling intimidated or thinking, "he must think I really stink at this!" He's very supportive and will make you a better player...whatever that means to you.

I have been taking lessons with Billy since January 2015. I am a total beginner and I really think I have made the best choice ever to pick him as my teacher. Billy is an experienced guitar teacher and a professional player that knows great techniques for beginners. He has been teaching me basics of guitar in a smart way, and at each lesson I feel I learn something new and at the same time I can clearly see how much progress I have made since our first lesson. He has also been teaching me how to read music and tabs which proofed to be extremely useful every time I want to learn a new song by myself. Highly recommended!
Lynn W.
I cannot recommend Billy enough. I studied jazz improvisation with Billy for three years, and later returned to study Brazilian guitar and Piedmont-style finger picking with him. I had been playing for more than twenty years when I started studying with him and he not only helped me improve my playing technically and creatively (on electric and nylon stringed guitars) but also expanded my knowledge of theory and helped me develop new approaches to composing and arranging. I am still working with the material he gave me and take lessons from him whenever my schedule allows.

Jan is an excellent teacher! She is very creative, fun to work with and puts heart into everything she teaches. Her professional experience and knowledge cover a broad range of musical talents which is perfect for me because she is able to help me with my vocal techniques, dramatic expression and also my songwriting skills. "Fawn is an investment in my future, money spent well

Fawn takes you on an unexpected fun, whirlwind of learning when you take lessons with her. Can’t read the notes? No problem, she’s got you. Vocal problems? Oh yeah, she fixes that too. Trouble in the studio? Voice off pitch? Need mic technique? Weak on piano? Sight singing? Can’t play the blues? Can’t play classical? Need to learn how to write a song? Can’t find a hook for your song? Don’t worry, Fawn to the rescue! Seriously, is there nothing this woman can’t do? I soak up her wisdom like a sponge. I’m currently working in the studio with her on my debut album and we are half-way finished. It is sounding ah-may-zing! I am learning so much from this studio wiz. Having her in my life the past 3 years has been the right choice and an investment in my future. Here’s to another successful year with Fawn on my team."

10 Proven Steps For Writing Lyrics That Stick

The late Amy Winehouse tribute album Lioness: Hidden Treasures has been making waves on the UK music charts, securing the #1 spot just days after its release.  Although the posthumous album has had its share of drama and questionable reviews, the collection - with its mix of covers and raw, unfinished tunes polished up by the producers - seems fitting in depicting Amy as the troubled, tattered star that she was. As she sings at the start of "Best Friends, Right?": "I can't wait to get away f …
