About Erasmo
Hello Parents and Students,

I have been teaching and writing music professionally for ten years. My first introduction to music was just like some of you, starting in high school where I had a great teacher that encouraged me to play. This helped me so much, and I wouldn't be where I am at if it weren't for his help and positive encouragement. Now I try to encourage all of my students the same way.

After high school I went on and played percussion with various Orchestras such as the "œInland Valley Symphony Orchestra" and "Mt. San Jacinto Symphony Orchestra."

I have also been involved in the DCI (Drum Corps International) and Drumline community. I toured for four years and experienced performing with groups such as Yamato Drum and Bugle Corps 2002-2005, Black Knights 2006, and RCC marching and winter percussion under the direct
ion of Scott Johnson & Jeff Lee in 2002, and Sean Vega & Jim Wunderlich in 2003.

During my college years I started playing Jazz Vibraphone in my school'™s top big-band. This allowed me the opportunity to play Jazz Piano which I have performed and still study until this day. As a result, Jazz has now become one of my biggest passions.

As a Professional International Composer, I have had the privilege of writing and arranging for many marching bands, wind ensembles, and indoor percussion ensembles, including orchestrations, recordings and sequencing projects for media, and musical theatre in the United States and Japan.

I am also currently an adjudicator for the Southern California Band and Orchestra Association (SCSBOA) and a member of the Vic-Firth Education Team.

I hope that this gives you a close and personal Idea of where I come from and hope that I can help you get the most out of your experience with music.

*** Lesson Details ***
I believe that in order for you to get the most out of our lessons it takes both, the Teacher'™s and Student'™s understanding and attention from both ends. sometimes giving all of the information in the world won't help if one there is no engagement and two if me as a teacher don't make sure that you understand. So I like to make sure to explain things in more than one way to make sure the student understands the concepts and what to practice.

I like to keep a relaxed atmosphere, but also making sure that there is a high level of professionalism and expectation of attentiveness from the student.

Of course, I also understand that this all depends on the age of the student, and as we meet and get to see what it is that you want to focus on and I will make sure to concentrate on that and help you reach your goals!

*** Studio Equipment ***
Mallets, Concert and Marching Sticks, Metronome, Practice pad, and Literature.
(Acoustic and Electric Piano are available depending on the time we arrange our lessons at the studio)
(Electric Drumset Available soon)

*** Travel Equipment ***
Mallets, Concert and Marching Sticks, Metronome, Practice pad, and Literature.
(I sometimes bring additional implements, such as hand drums, like a djembe and other accessories, depending on the focus of our lessons.)
I may be able to bring a Keyboard upon request

*** Specialties ***
I have been performing with Drum and bugle corps since 2002, (DCI)

Marching Rudimental, and Concert Percussion styles. All Percussion.

About Aaron B.

Scholastic methods and rudiments, sight reading, timing, dynamics, and all of the fundamentals for percussion in concert band, marching band, drum corps, and orchestra.

About Aaron
Teaching drums professionally since 1998, Aaron has influenced hundreds of budding musicians to get the most from their instrument. He has studied privately with Rob Laytham (Modern Drummer columnist), Joe Leroux (marching band guru), Gary Chaffe (legendary drummer) and many others throughout the years. He has taken the best techniques and teaching styles from his influences and molded them together to form what he considers to be the most effective and inspiring method available.

I teach drum set in nearly every style and hybrid imaginable, as well as percussion and drum circle facilitation.

Accomplishments include recording 7 albums with various groups, touring with national acts across the west coast, drumming for the Warner Brothers Television house band, and still actively playing live shows and recording.

*** Lesson Deta
ils ***
I put my focus on inspiring students to explore their own creativity with the tools and techniques that I give to them and nurture. I think it is very important to cover the basic skills that the school districts expect from their music students (sight reading, proper technique, note recognition, rudiments, timing, feel, etc.). I also feel it is important for a student to find his or her style and an ability to use the fundamentals to create music that they enjoy. He has written a method book based on the fundamentals of playing a rhythmic instrument with an emphasis on allowing the student to find their niche and lead a group through a piece of music or tastefully support it.

My studios are fully equipped with sound systems, the latest recording gear, acoustic and electric sets, hand drums and dozens of other percussion instruments. I believe that the more resources a person can draw from, be it intellectual or physical, the more fulfilling the learning experience will be.

Each lesson, my students will take at least a page of music that represents the concept that they are focusing on, and a goal set to accomplish by the end of the week so that they can build upon what they already know in an effort to put the big picture together. Ultimately the student will learn when and how to utilize the concepts that they are practicing.

*** Studio Equipment ***
A Yamaha electronic drum set in my Mesa Studio allows me to control volume and dial up any sound imaginable. I have full acoustic drum sets in other studios that I use for recording and private lessons. Often I will integrate guitar, keyboard, or other instruments in to the lessons if needed.

*** Travel Equipment ***
Sticks, Practice Pad, tuning kit, binder and books with teaching supplements.

*** Specialties ***
Music, Drums, Percussion, Theory, Composition, Piano and Guitar.
Drummers should be well versed in all genres of music. Rock, Jazz, Latin, Swing, etc.
Most of my students begin with concert and marching styles on a practice pad, then advance to the drum set.
I teach note recognition and placement, rudiments, linear playing, moeller method, rhythm theory, sub-division of notes and time, and the sight-reading to support these techniques.

I have a 100% rate of getting my students into their school of choice as of yet. Although I don't guarantee it, I will work relentlessly to make sure you are well prepared though. I will also lend you PDFs of books to help you save a buck.

About Scott
*Brief Update: Both of my 8th grade students were accepted to LaGuardia High School and my 5th grade student was accepted into Mark Twain Middle School for the Gifted & Talented. He also passed his audition for Borough Wide Band. Next up is getting my Junior in high school into All State Orchestra!*

*Update again. My student made all state!

I have been playing drums and percussion since the ripe old age of 9, in 4th grade. Originally wanting to play the clarinet, my music teacher thought my sense of rhythm was too good to waste and placed me in the drum section. I was the only kid who didn't want to play drums. Twenty years later here I am, a professional freelancing percussionist and teacher. The journey to where I am was a long and winding one but I can't imagine it any other way. After learning basic drumming in elementary sch
ool, I continued through middle school. There I was placed on drum kit and thought I was the coolest. I didn't take it too seriously but serious enough to keep playing drum kit. When choosing high schools I wasn't interested in keeping with drums. I only took marching band because it meant no gym. After my first year I was placed in every band the next three years, having to learn timpani and marimba for concert band. I was also recommended to join a city wide concert band, InterSchool orchestras of New York, and haven't left since. I still coach the band and help tons of high school and middle school students hone their craft. Also that year, through ISO, I was given a chance to attend French woods performing arts camp on scholarship where I began my love of playing in musical pit orchestras. Through this time I studied with a couple of teachers and had plenty of coachings with professional percussionists. Upon graduating I have played well over 100 different musicals, played with over 25 different orchestras, and have taught over 100 students both privately and in coachings. I currently run a Drumline out of a private school, coach ISO band, freelance and have a studio of 8 students. That is a short sample of my journey and I hope it inspires you to study with me.

If you choose me as a teacher, I will shape you as an overall musician, not just a "Drummer". What this means is that you won't just learn beats from me, you will learn all the fundamentals of basic to intermediate music theory, from note reading and rhythm to chord changes and ..... You will start on a practice pad and quickly go to a drum kit. Lessons will be half and half, but more 75/25 drumkit, because everything you learn on a pad can translate to the kit! I would also teach you timpani and xylophone if you like so you can broaden your horizons and even get into the middle/high school or college you want. I have most of my books of pdf that I can give you to print or you can purchase your own copies. You would also need to purchase a practice pad and eventually a drum kit. If you don't want to purchase a drum kit then there is almost no reason to study it since you won't be able to practice between lessons. Practicing, let's talk about that. It is expected that you practice the material we learn in the lesson throughout the week. Now I know everyone is busy, but if you can put aside 25 minutes (a sitcom without commercials!!) a day then you will have a better understanding and better retention of the material. Doing this will let us just review the material a little bit and go on to learn new and exciting things.

The bottom line in choosing me? I am a professional musician in the trenches of the nyc music scene and know what it takes to make it.

I can help beginning students on percussion learn the basics.

About Thomas
Thomas J. W. is an active music teacher, composer, adjudicator, and clinician in the greater Philadelphia area. He has over fifteen years experience as a concert band director, marching band director, jazz improvisation instructor, choral director, private instructor, and marching drill writer. His directing career has included small rural band programs, small metro programs, large high-achieving suburban programs, and non-profit youth bands. In addition to his band compositions, he also has over forty unpublished vocal arrangements to his credit, most written for use with collegiate men's a cappella groups. Thomas taught over 600 online and local private music lessons in 2016.

Thomas has a Bachelor of Science degree in Music Education from The Pennsylvania State University. He holds a teaching certificate in the states of Pennsylvania
and New Jersey and has taught at the secondary level in both states. In addition to both instrumental and choral ensembles at Penn State, Thomas was a student leader in the Penn State Blue Band and a member of the brass section of the Cadets of Bergen County Drum and Bugle Corps in 1993 and 1994. He served as an Associate Director of the Warren Junior Military Band of Youngstown, Ohio from 1995 to 2005. He also served as a visual staff member for the renowned North Penn Marching Knights of Lansdale, PA for one season in 2004.

He is a current adjudicator with Drum Corps International and Cavalcade of Bands. He is a member of MENC, PMEA, NJMEA, ASCAP, CASA, Phi Mu Alpha Sinfonia, and the National Band Association. He appeared in the Marquis Who's Who Among American Educators in 2004 and 2005, an honor rarely bestowed upon teachers, as students who appear in the Who's Who Among American High School Students must nominate them. He currently is a music teacher at the Center for Performing and Fine Arts of the PA Leadership Charter School in West Chester, PA and resides in Downingtown, PA with his wife and two sons.

Thomas will happily work with students on the autism spectrum or students with ADD.

*** Lesson Details ***
My lessons are tailored to the needs and interests of each student. If a student is involved in school music ensembles, we will work with their lesson books from school in addition to material outside of the books, including SmartMusic, Noteflight, and teacher-created materials. We will focus on building proper tone production and individual technique - something that often is difficult to learn in a large ensemble setting.

I am capable of starting a beginner student on any band instrument including percussion, any classical string instrument (violin, viola, cello, string bass), and piano. I can begin a student on drum set and work with them through their first method book, but I would then recommend they find a specialized drum set teacher after a period of six to twelve months.

For advanced students, I work from selected conservatory etude books on developing advanced skills and can work with students on audition pieces for honors bands/orchestras or college auditions.

My lessons are a half-hour once a week, with the option of working for 45 minutes or 60 minutes.

My experience as a performer and teacher spans over 25 years of every musical style. I believe in creating an environment that is focused on playing music well and where the student can have fun while gaining confidence. It is important to develop functional musicians with good technique, reading, time, and listening skills. We can cover all styles of music from early music to rock/pop, including jazz, classical (including orchestral), and other percussion as desired.

About Mariano
My experience as a performer and teacher ranges from early music to today's rock and pop, including various percussion instruments from around the world. When studying for my bachelors and masters degrees in music, I did course work in music recording, jazz studies, and music history. In addition, I incorporate my knowledge of development, physics, and other sciences into my instruction. I can discuss playing music with beginners to professionals as we pursue opportunities in the music industry and education to develop functional musicians with creative outlets as students are able to explore any area or level of music. Some of my students have gone onto college music programs and high school programs such as OCHSA while others are enjoying playing music with friends. The goal is to take a student's excitement for music and percussion in
a direction that will feedback into more learning and a drive to explore more styles of music.

Mariano was an amazing percussion and drum set teacher. His lessons were engaging and productive, and he was always able to communicate an idea or musical concept in a way that I was able to understand and connect with. After about 2 years of lessons I was accepted into the Orange County School of the Arts for percussion and I owe my success to the lessons I took with Mariano. I continued lessening throughout high school and my skill level contined to grow. What I loved about Mariano's teaching was his unique ability to take very simple exercises and make them more difficult and therefore much more beneficial. Along with stressing the importance of basic technique, he would constantly inteoduce me to new things - Afro beats, traditional grip, Latin beats, new ways to sight read, and 4 mallet marimba technique. I would highly suggest taking lessons with Mariano if you are looking for a fun, encouraging teacher who has lots of experience with a variety of percussion performance!

I am well versed in marching percussion and rudimentary techniques. If the student is planning on joining drum corps or playing in a high school band this is a good option.

About Jack
I've been a working musician, recording artist, and teacher in the Los Angeles area for over 10 years now. I've had the opportunity to study with many great educators like Maury Baker (Janis Joplin, Jimmy Hendrix, Frank Zappa) and Kei Akagi (Miles Davis, Stanley Turrentine, Al Di Meola). I received my Bachelor's degree from the University of California Irvine in music (specifically in jazz drum set performance). I'm also well versed in marching percussion and can teach beginner to advanced levels if necessary. No matter what level, music should be fun. When you establish goals and make progress, music can be the most rewarding thing in your life.

In lessons we'll train technique and theory right alongside the ear with the objective of being able to play from your authentic self.
In addition I studied with the Jazz legend and esteemed educator Stefon Harris (currently leading the Manhatttan School of Music). We will use his innovative theory and ear training techniques to learn the most basic mechanics of music.

About Grady
My personal philosophy of music is to explore and learn as much from my students as I can teach them. For me teaching is like going on an adventure to find something together. I've been able to play all over the world and tour with many different musicians and the thing that made the core of every great performance was the human interaction and communication. For me music is about being more human. This is something I just as much try to impart and teach in my lessons as theory and technique. (On a side note I can travel farther than 13 miles as long as it's in the boroughs of Manhattan, Brooklyn, Queens or the Bronx).

If you are looking for someone to teach you concert percussion or marching percussion skills, I am your guy. From snare drum to marimba to bongos, I cover all the bases (pun intended). I compete in Drum Corps International and Winter Guard International (Drums). I march bass drum with the Cavaliers Drum and Bugle Corps and for Vessel Percussion, which are two highly recognized World Class groups. In terms of teaching, I taught a middle school drumline this past winter and led them to a 2nd place title in State Championships. I make sure to design my lesson plan around the student to best fit their learning needs. Teaching and percussion are two of major passions, so I promise that you will be in good hands with me as a teacher. I hope to hear from you soon!

About Finn
I started my percussion career in the 6th grade and have been playing for 8 years now. I pursued percussion (and music in general) all throughout high school. A big influence on my teaching styles and techniques came from my high school marching band. In my freshman year of high school, as a drumline we achieved 2nd in the state of Michigan overall (out of 44). The years following have been very similar in placement all the way through my Senior year of high school. I also played with an indoor drumline named Farmington United Percussion Ensemble. In State Championship competition, we have led the division in 1st place for the past 4 years (Michigan Color Guard Circuit). We have also made World Finals in Dayton, Ohio for the past 4 years, with a 2nd place medal this past year in Winter Guard International (Drums) Independent A Class..

A
s of 2 months ago I moved to California to pursue higher level indoor drumlines. I'm currently a part of Vessel Percussion, a World Class percussion group based out of Ontario, California. This coming summer I will also be marching with the Cavaliers Drum and Bugle Corps, which is a World Class marching band that placed 4th in the world at the top level of competition in Drum Corps International. As a way to help raise funds to pay for these activities, I am hoping to be able to spread my knowledge and teachings on to others who wish to pursue percussion in some way, shape, or form.

Lessons will inlude: Concert Percussion (snare, bass, cymbals, toms, timpani, keyboards, auxiliary), Marching Percussion (marching snare, marching bass, marching tenors, marching cymbals), and light exploration of Visual Performance (marching, confidence, fluidity)

When I teach, I will be able to provide a Marimba, Mallets, a Marching Bass Drum, and Practice Pads for teaching. I will have spare sticks, but I do prefer if students bring their own sticks. A lesson with me isn't just about playing the instrument and learning a shallow lesson only about rhythms and hitting things with sticks. I heavily encourage and focus on teaching music theory, instrument history, different genres and styles of percussion and music in general, the different techniques and approaches, modern drumming vs. "old-school" drumming, and making sure the student gets a true understanding of what percussion really is.

In the words of my mentor, "A drummer knows how play drums. A percussionist knows how to master them."

Once a month I get all of my students together for an evening of learning and shared knowledge.
