Groove is everything! Drumming is far more about feel than it's about flash. If you want to be the drummer who is in high demand you need to have both feel and flash, but feel is something that is not common. It's easier to learn flashy antics than a meat and potato drumming foundation. I've been a professional musician for over 30 years in the studio and touring all over the US, Mexico, and Central America. I can teach you how to play with seemingly effortless technique, how to bring your internal groove monster out, how to improvise solos, and bring thunderous energy into your playing venues! I look forward to speaking with you soon

Shon is very accommodating to helping you learn at your own pace. He is very patient, encouraging and insightful. Shon is very relaxed which helps me feel comfortable and not feel pressured. He gives reassurance all the time that the "growing pains" of learning guitar are normal things everyone fights through. I would highly recommend him.

Linear patterns and four way coordination patterns will be applied for developing good coordination skills and ambidextrous discipline in advanced players. Beginners will learn to grasp a feel of straight quarter, eighth and sixteenth note beats. I have been teaching drums since 2003, and I start my students using The Drumset Musician, by Rick Mattingly and Rod Morgenstein. I also choose materials, from my extensive library, to address the needs of each individual. I am familiar with rock, country, blues, jazz, and world grooves, as well as marching band and orchestra. I teach the components of and purposes of voices within the set, proper grip, reading music, coordination, and feel. I also teach students how to analyze and map songs, so they can excel in a band setting. If a student is wanting to be in marching and symphonic bands, I can prepare them for those pursuits, as well. I have two sets in my studio, as well as abundant hand and auxiliary percussion instruments.

About Tracy

I have been playing the drum set in various bands since 2001. I have also been playing with the OKC Community Orchestra since 2009. I have played in symphonic and jazz bands and a percussion ensemble. I have taught a percussion class, private lessons, and I have been a full time music teacher in

My experience as an electric guitar student of Justin's is nothing short of perfect for what I was looking for. Justin has a great studio with everything you'd need and is very focused on ensuring he's helping me learn what I want, not some standard, boring, antiquated way of teaching. He's got a TON of accomplishments under his belt (music and otherwise, he is also an actor!) from which to draw experience from and share with students. Very professional, personable and contemporary - IMO a perfect teacher and I'd recommend him to anyone looking for lessons!

"Anthony has really pulled through for me these past few months. I’m a senior in highschool this year applying for schools and was preparing with him for all of my college auditions. Anthony knew the nuances the panels were looking for, giving me practical and specific exercises to work on my weaknesses. Those exercises opened up my playing, solidified my foundation, and helped me become a more fluid improviser. If you’re looking for a teacher who is an active member of the scene, who has put in the work himself, and can expose you to various styles...Anthony is, without a doubt, the man!"

My 8 year-old son looks forward to his lesson with Mr. Charles every week. I was a little nervous about having a 45 minute lesson - but Mr. Charles keeps my son fully engaged and excited the entire time.

Mr. Charles quickly accessed my son's tendencies/needs and has set him up on a track that is a good balance of enjoyment and growth. We look forward to many more lessons with Mr. Charles."

Drumming from Riverside

By Joan Q. - Riverside Drums Teacher

When a musician thinks about California, they think about Los Angeles, one of the top music scenes in the country. But when Riverside is mentioned, not that many musicians are familiar with the area. My name is Joan, and I teach percussion and drum lessons in Riverside. I’m here to discuss what it is like being a drummer and teacher from the Riverside music scene.

I have been performing and teaching for several years now and have been fortunate to find opportunities outside of Riverside. I studied music at California State University in Long Beach, which is not too far from Los Angeles. I have performed in Los Angeles, New York City, Las Vegas, and even France. The music scenes in each of these places are very different from one anothe

...

r in terms of competition and opportunities. Los Angeles is definitely competitive. The great thing about Riverside is that no matter what age you are and what level you are as a musician, there are tons of opportunities to perform. There are many cafes, restaurants, bars, and other venues that will hire live bands of any genre.

I currently play percussion at a local church, play drum set in a rock band based in Riverside, and play drum set for an all-female Latin band based in Los Angeles. Networking in different areas is very important to become successful as a musician because you never know who will notice you and give you a gig. In my experience though, there is definitely less pressure in Riverside than in Los Angeles. There are many drummers from Riverside, but because the area is so big the competition is not that steep and there is always somewhere to perform.

As a teacher from Riverside, I find that it is a great area for people who are starting out on drums. Because there is less pressure to be competitive, I find that my students taking drum lessons in Riverside want to learn just because they want to have fun and they love music. We are able to focus more on who they are as a drummer, rather than trying to be better than everyone else. When they feel ready to join the experienced and professional musicians, Los Angeles is not too far away.

I really enjoy being a drummer and teaching drum lessons in Riverside. It has given me a variety of people to work with, places to perform, and the more challenging city of Los Angeles is only a drive away. If you’re interested in Riverside drum lessons, just give us a call. And remember, music is all about having fun!
