**Songwriting for all ages and abilities and currently have young children writing their first songs as a way to develop their writing and musicianship skills, to young adults releasing their first recordings of well crafted material. I use improvisation as a bsic tool to assist singers and pianists alike. I also work with guitarists to work on their craft and to develop as artists.
Creativity, skill and love of music are the key elements that I work to encourage in every student. Over the years my teaching has evolved and I find it gratifying to take people far beyond their own expectations while helping them achieve their goals. I believe everyone is musical and just needs the right key to tap into their own creativity.
For beginners it's important to study with an excellent teacher. Setting a solid and creative foundation makes all the difference! For advanced players studying with a great artist takes you greater artistry.
Weekly private lessons focus on technical skills in either piano, voice (or a combination of both) and a strong musical foundation. Theory and Ear Training are fundamentals that are embedded in this approach to developing a complete musician and artist.
I have over 20 years exper
ience working with students as young as 3 and old as 85! Often multiple generations in a family study together making for a rich family experience.
Performance opportunities: Recitals, Concerts Cabarets and Musicals are a part of developing into a musician and singer and enhancing a love of music that will last a lifetime!
*** Lesson Details *** Piano - Classical, Jazz, Blues and Improvisation. Current students are beginners to professional musicians and music teachers.
Voice – I am an accomplished vocal coach and songwriter and currently work with a wide variety of singers from young beginners to professionals who look to develop through ear training, singing and songwriting. In a unique way I guide people to become better performers and musicians through the combination of voice, piano and composition.
I work with students as young as 3 or 4 and into their 80’s. It’s important to begin with an excellent teacher from the start to set a good foundation and to have the ability to develop as quickly and thoroughly as possible. I enjoy working with beginners as well as accomplished musicians. I also believe that music is one of the great joys of life and that lessons should be FUN!
Besides a wide variety of performance opportunities through my Family to Family Concerts, I also offer my students the curriculum and exams of the Associated Board of the Royal Schools of Music, a gold standard music curriculum.. The ABRSM is accredited in over 100 countries worldwide and exams are offered twice per year in all instruments and voice.
*** Studio Equipment *** Lesson room with grand piano, vocal mics, recording equipment. Parents can sit in on lessons and waiting area available, parking on street. No pets.
*** Travel Equipment *** They will need a piano or keyboard
*** Specialties *** A message from Robert: Hello, I am a master teacher focusing on the classical repertoire along with a very creative approach to improvisation and composition. I help students to achieve their interests of music rather than focusing on teaching one particular method. Classes are tailored to the student and constantly evolving. This has led me to work in a variety of mediums and styles including Jazz, improvisation, rock and blues. This approach also enhances an understanding and love of classical music. I also guide my students in the curriculum and exams of the Associated Board of the Royal Schools of Music. (ABRSM) Exams are offered twice per year. I have also found it inspiring to work with people with disabilities and help them find a way to express themselves musically. I give lectures and workshops in the area and around the country on improvisation and creativity along with concerts of my own music. I also work with a number of students in vocal coaching and accompanying. New this year are seminars in songwriting for adults and children. Groups of 4-5 collaborate on new songs. Film and video composition coming soon!
We will learn different approaches to song writing, focus on some music theory and apply it to your performances or compositions.

*** Lesson Details *** "I love teaching because it's worthwhile to see my students suc
ceed in something they really work hard for. I believe that every student has their own unique way of learning music. I am patient and understanding, so my lesson plans will be based on the student's ability, personal interests, and goals. We can work on songs that range from Bach to Ella Fitzgerald, Rolling Stones to Adele and Taylor Swift. Music is fun and rewarding. With me, students will develop a strong music education to help them succeed while having fun."
I can teach students a great deal about melody development and chord progression selection. I typically have a very theoretical approach to songwriting but love to reinforce it with a much less technical approach to help create more organic and natural sounding songs.
I am overjoyed and grateful to say I have been playing music for more than half of my life. It has never stopped being the light in my day and now it is my hope to shed some of that light onto you or your child. I am a very friendly and fun teacher with a great deal of professionalism and patience, even more importantly I love teaching and music with a passion.
I have been playing an instrument since the 4th grade (cello) and, as I learned more about how music works, was slowly able to pick-up a greater variety instruments with an increasing degree of ease. In high school, I decided to pick-up the guitar just to "have fun and rock out". I joined a band, played in the high school orchestra, joined the high school jazz band and began to practice songwriting and cover songs. Still, it was not until after I took my first class on music the
ory that I knew how much I not only loved the thrill of playing music but the discovery of how it worked. With this experience I can show you or your child why learning an instrument can be not only an exciting experience but an interesting and enthralling one as well.
I have been teaching music for over 7 years and have had the privilege of teaching children as young as 4 to adults in their late 80's. I am a very attentive teacher who can not only help get you moving in the right direction but keep you on that path until your are a self-sufficient musician. A level of musicianship that simply means you can learn whatever you want on your instrument on your own, whether it be for business, pleasure or for mere self-improvement.
Through my own student career in private lessons I had the chance to study with graduates of the Musician's Institute (MI), the California Institute of the Arts (CAL Arts) and Berklee College of Music. This has provided me with an inside look into how and what each institute teaches, as well as a first hand look at the techniques and ideas that the great players from these remarkable schools have come to produce.
My formal music education consists of 2 years at Pasadena City College where I obtained my general Associates Degree (much of the studies included music) and a semester at California State University Long Beach as a Jazz Guitar Performance Major. Additionally, I completed a great deal of California State University Long Beach's teaching credential program (focusing on the teaching of history/social studies), where I learned strategies and theories of how and what to teach my students - making me that much more knowledgable of my craft. At Pasadena City College I studied with jazz/classical guitarist, Ron Berman, who has played with such jazz greats as Herb Ellis and Jimmy Wyble. At Cal State Long Beach I studied with jazz guitarist Ron Eschete, a former teacher at MI who has toured with the likes of Ray Brown, John Dizzy Gillespie and Jim Hall.
Most importantly I hope to show you or your child a new way to love and appreciate music. And to provide you with the ability and know-how to have the most fun on your instrument as possible.
*** Lesson Details *** Throughout my lessons, I always encourage basic skills including scales, sight-reading and technical exercises. But what I hope to give all my students is a basic understanding of music and their instrument, providing them with a practical ability to navigate the vast world of music for a lifetime.
Beyond these skills, I always have songs, styles and theory for you to work on but I am often more interested in what you as an individual want to learn on your instrument. Getting to learn concepts that you have chosen yourself will help encourage practice and will make the finished product all the more the rewarding.
I can custom tailor a teaching curriculum and/or style for any of my students: we can focus on learning songs, learning to read, how to write music, how music works, and even how to play specific styles of music (including funk, rock, jazz, Latin, flamenco, classical, country and blues). I also self tailor my own worksheets and set weekly goals with my students to help encourage practice, understanding and progress. For students interested in more advanced concepts, I can also teach ear training, music theory, advanced jazz improvisation as well as advanced playing techniques.
All this in a friendly and easy-going teaching environment.

I've had three banjo teachers over the past two and a half years. Judging by Jared's performance today, he's the best of the lot. The first banjo teacher expected too much too soon, and the second one started me out with the basics, as if I had never picked up a banjo before. Jared is starting our lessons at the right stage for where I am. He's patient and explains things well. If I had started with him two and a half years ago, I'd be a decent banjo player by now. Thanks, Jared!!!!!
With a focus on music theory, we will write songs together and I will guide you into writing your own songs.
Everyone has a beautiful voice. Let me teach you how to make it heard.
My passion for music is the most pervasive quality of my personality. Consequently, passing that passion on to others is what brings me the most joy in life. My goal is to spread the love and appreciation for this unique and transcending art form through guidance, performance, and instruction. As my student, you will receive exactly what you (or your child) want out of the lessons-you are the one controlling what you want from them (be it any style of music, professional track or just for fun, music theory, and performance) and I am there to provide it. Music is nothing short of extremely fun and completely liberating.
I have always loved to sing and play guitar and piano starting from a young age, and I never gave up my determination and passion for perfor
ming. In middle and high school I did many musicals (Jekyll and Hyde, Joseph and the Amazing Technicolor Dreamcoat, Oliver, Miss Saigon, Little Shop of Horrors, Footloose, Kiss Me Kate, and Cats) and sang in the choir (including the California All State Honor Choir and Jazz Choir). I played guitar in the school Jazz Band and participated in many jam sessions out of school. I also participated in many piano competitions, including ones for my own composition (I received an honorable mention for one of my own piano works). In college, I received a Bachelor of Music in Vocal Performance as well as a Bachelor of Arts in Psychology from the University of Redlands. I have recently completed my Master of Music in Vocal Performance from the University of Redlands. I have performed many opera roles including Suor Angelica in Puccini's Suor Angelica, Violetta in Verdi's La Traviata, the Queen of the Night in Mozart's The Magic Flute, and Fiordiligi in Mozart's Cosi Fan Tutte, and Najade in Strauss' Ariadne auf Naxos. I was also in the University Chapel Singers Choir, Madrigals Choir, and Treblemakers a Capella Jazz choir. I currently reside in Germany where I am teaching online lessons to students all over the world, teaching English, and pursuing an opera career. So far I have sung the role of the Queen of the Night in Weimar, Germany and have done a few concerts singing Christine from the Phantom of the Opera.
"Hard work beats talent if talent does not work hard." This is my favorite quote. I truly believe that hard work will take you anywhere, no matter where your starting point is. With hard work and determination, you can be anything you want to be. With motivation, anyone can be a beautiful singer, guitarist, and pianist. If I did not believe this with all my heart, I would not be where I am today. To me, every student has great potential. It is my job and joy to bring out that potential and cultivate it into talent, love, and passion.
My lessons are fun and rewarding. I do not believe that a critical environment is one that is healthy or pleasant to learn in. Therefore, I am a very encouraging, patient, and supportive teacher, and I will praise you for your improvements, as well as help you correct your difficulties. I like to think of my lessons as a team effort, with more emphasis on working together and having fun. With that being said, I believe that you get what you put in out of our lessons. The more you practice and the more you show me determination and motivation, the more we can have fun, improve technique, and really make music in our lessons.
I customize each lesson to my student, so you tell me what you want to sing or play and what your goals as a musician are, and I will instruct you (or your child) in the exact way that fits your goals and interests. After a couple months with me, you will have a new found passion for music, knowledge of proper technique, reading and diction, and the skills to perform and communicate pieces of music. Most importantly, you will have the time of your life!
My voice lessons consist of vocal warm-ups where you learn proper technique and posture, breathing exercises to expand your diaphragm and support when you sing, and Repertoire work where you apply the technique you learned, practice performance skills, and learn diction of English, Italian, German, Hebrew, or French.
My guitar and piano lessons start with learning how to read music (if you do not know already) and being familiar with the keys or frets and the notes on the staff. Then we work on pieces of music, paying attention to the key factors of musicianship including rhythm, interpretation, dynamics, composition, musicality, and performance practice. My music theory lessons are based on whatever the student wants to learn or needs instruction on. I teach anywhere from basic music notation to advanced harmonic and formal analysis.
My speaking and lessons are similar to my voice lessons, minus the singing aspect-the same technique we use for singing is the technique we must use for speaking if we want to be heard, be healthy, and not get tired or worse - lose our voice. We work on breathing and projection techniques and then practice on a reading sample or presentation.
My acting lessons consist of different improv-acting games, projection techniques, and monologue and role studies. You will learn how to communicate a message to the audience clearly and effectively while having a wonderful time!
My language and tutoring classes are focused on fluency-getting comfortable speaking in the target language. We go through chapters of a lesson plan I created myself-learning vocabulary and grammar by learning the functions of them and completing speaking goals. After just a few lessons, you will find that you will be able to converse in your target language. Your individual pace is the most important to me, so we learn at the speed that you are the most comfortable with.
All I expect from you is to bring a pencil, a good attitude, and the willingness to practice and work hard in our lessons, and I will supply the rest! Looking forward to hearing your beautiful music or voice!
Songwriting lessons are flexible. If you are a beginner we will work on lyric basics. As an intermediate we will add in chord and melody writing. If you are an advanced writer, I can help critique your works and give suggestions on revisions, give techniques on structure, and/or encourage you by extending your sources of inspiration.
Lauren graduated from McNally Smith College of Music magna cum laude in 2011 with a bachelors in vocal performance. She played everywhere from Duluth. Minnesota to Lima, Peru: sharing the stage with artists as diverse as Andres Prado and Judi Donaghy. In addition to her McNally Smith Degree, Lauren received master classes from Bobby McFerrin and the New York Voices. Passionate about giving back to the community, Lauren instructed voice and piano students at the Urban Hub, a community center for inner city youth in Minneapolis MN. She spent the last 6 months of 2011 as an instructor at Jazz Jaus in Lima, Peru. She taught music theory, history, songwriting, and applied voice at ex'treme Institute by Nelly in St. Louis, MO for 3 years. She recently moved back to the Twin Cities to perform and teach.
*** Lesson Details *** Every student
has an experience unique to themselves. I am strict about meeting the goals developed by each student. However, the learning process is highly individual. You will learn at a pace and with a curriculum we develop to best suit your learning style, musical preference, and goals.
*** Travel Equipment *** I expect students will have a keyboard or piano.
*** Specialties *** Trained 10 years in classical voice and piano. Undergrad in contemporary voice. 12 years of theatre experience
I have been a working musician and occasional private music teacher for over 40 years. During that time I had a career in the professional audio and video industry, during which I learned how to successfully deal with people. I recently returned to school and completed a Bachelor of Music in Music Education degree at CSU Sacramento. My goal is to bring excitement and enthusiasm for music and playing an instrument to my students, and to create musicians who will make and enjoy music throughout their lives. I play guitar, bass guitar and flute, and enjoy teaching all of them to all age groups.
*** Lesson Details *** Playing music is supposed to be fun. Lessons include playing, so they should be fun as well. My lessons are both focused and fun. I believe you get out of music what you put in. If a student doesn't practice in between lesso
ns, I will know. If a student does practice, I will know that as well. My lessons stress not only what to practice, but how. In 3-6 months, the beginning student can expect to be able to make a pleasing sound on the instrument, and be able to play beginning repertoire. Most importantly, the student will be able to play well enough to enjoy the instrument, which inevitably leads to more productive practice and continued improvement. This continued improvement is what lessons are all about.
*** Travel Equipment *** If I travel to a student's home, I will bring my instrument only. I expect the student to provide all other equipment necessary for the lesson.
*** Specialties *** Folk guitar, rock and roll and blues bass, classical flute, analog and digital recording, music theory
All styles of popular songwriting. Covers form, structure, theory, lyrics and arrangements
I'm a Sac State B.M. Graduate who loves to teach! I specialized in Jazz at CSUS, but I love playing rock, blues, country, folk, punk, funk, you name it! I also studied English with an emphasis in Creative Writing, so if you're an aspiring fellow songwriter, I can surely help you out with that as well. I tailor each lesson to the individual needs and wants of the student. Just starting out? Welcome! Want to learn to write your own songs? I gotcha. Want to learn to sight read so you can pass an audition or play in a school band? No problem! Want to learn to improvise like Wes Montgomery, Jimi Hendrix, Eric Clapton, etc (just a few of my favorites)... let's get to work!
What a wonderful person to be teaching my 10 year old, patient and very knowledgeable

Eddie is a true musicologist. He's helped me with theory, scales, modes, music reading, song writing, and helped me to incorporate many different computer programs into my composing and recording. If you want to improve you music, Eddie can help.
In addition to my musical experience, which includes having a degree, I wrote music for a band I was in, Eden's Requiem. I am happy to teach about how to get over songwriting writer's block, methods of songwriting, and to work on your songs with you!
I've been teaching private lessons for the past year and am very passionate about my students - making you succeed is my life's blood and whatever your goal is, that's my goal too! I've performed in many different musicals and operas in Sacramento, and been hired to sing professionally both as a soloist and a chorus singer. I went to California State University, Sacramento and earned my Bachelor of Arts in Music in 2015. I've since been very active in the music theatre scene in Sacramento, and my music theatre students love me! I'd love to see what we can do to make you a great singer!
Kevin is an excellent Teacher and i would recommend him to anyone.

He makes you feel welcome and free at the same time as keeping you leveled
October 2, 2017
I came to Kevin because I needed a refresher course. I had taken piano lessons as a child, but I'd lost a lot of it over the years. Kevin is very knowledgeable and patient and he explains things very well. I would recommend him wholeheartedly.
"Stephen has definitely provided me an insightful way of analyzing songs and for writing my own music myself. He is really helpful and gives you many eye o
pening advices and tools that encourage you to develop your artistry. Furthermore, he provides a friendly and non judegemental atmosphere, which is essential for a student. I totally recommend him."
"I loved her energy and how she jumped right in. Already in the first I learned something new!"
"Eric is great! We’ve worked on several songs together. I would write a basic version of the song and he’d help me put it together him being the producer
. He knows the audio engineering side as well as the songwriting side and he’s coached me when I’ve done vocals in his studio. Very accommodating and good dude."
"Andrew's fantastic musicianship mixed with a low key personality, is the perfect recipe for a great music instructor. Aspiring bass players should capit
alize on his ability to play both fluid single note lines-and this is key-his incredibly funky bottom end. Non-bassists, never fear. He also has the solid music theory thing down so there is something for everyone to take your musical knowledge to the next level."
"Melaena was great with my 7 year old. Made her feel comfortable and able to open up with ideas and suggestions. She mediated the class well and allowed fo
r all participants’ voices to be heard. Had an amazing end result each class. True treasures we’ll cherish forever. Thanks for everything Melaena!"
"A great teacher who help me start to write song
I wrote my first song after I started to have lessons with Jeff. Jeff encouraged me follow through my mot
ives, offered effective guidance and advices that helped shaping my first song. I am very happy with what I learnt from Jeff and am looking forward to have Jeff's teaching along my future songwriting journey!"
"I have been taking lessons with Jimmy for years now for music theory, acoustic guitar, singing, recording, and now songwriting. Its awesome to have all th
ose options in one place. Jimmy has a lot of experience when it comes to writing songs and it shows in the way he teaches. He always shows excitement towards the new songs I bring to him, and encourages me to keep writing. He has taught me how easy it can be to create songs, while taking what he has taught me with music theory to push the song to the next level. The best part is when I decide I like a song, he has the ability to record it for me in his studio. This process of recording and listening to what you have created is invaluable. I always look forward to lessons with Jimmy and highly recommend him."
"Natalie is always very insightful! Excellent!!"
"he's great!!!! i'm excited about working with him. he was very nice and had a gentle quality about him. Which i like.. i understood my lesson and exci

Writing a catchy song that delivers a strong message can be quite difficult. Here, voice teacher Emmanuel N. shares the songwriting tips you can glean from several famous singers...
When it comes to lyric-writing and songwriting, nobody can really teach you how to do it – it’s better to show by example. Whether you’re simply writing lyrics to a song you will one day sing (or someone else will sing for you) or you’re songwriting to a musical piece you found or created, …
