I teach reading rhythms, playing with a bend and how to groove!

About Mike
I have taught private guitar, piano, bass and drum lessons since the late 70s in Salt Lake City, where I majored in jazz guitar performance, and since 1980 in Los Angeles. I make the lessons fun. Some of my students have received college scholarships and won cash prizes for music contests. All of them had fun while learning and improving on their instruments.

*** Lesson Details ***
I am very enthusiastic and can teach students how to read. If they do not want to read music, they can learn to play by ear. I can also show them where to put their fingers. During piano lessons, I often accompany students on guitar and suggest a scale for improvisation, so they can play the blues. During drum lessons, I often play bass so they can learn to groove.

*** Travel Equipment ***
They should have their own instrument and a music stand.

*** Spec
ialties ***
I specialize in jazz improvisation on piano and guitar.
I also teach recreational guitar and piano for adults, including classical and blues styles.
I coach bass players and drummers in playing stylistically correct grooves for jazz, rock and latin music.

Drums is my primary instrument, the one I chose to follow as a career in music. Drums make us dance, make us smile, and they are simply extremely fun to play. The most important thing I focus on is in playing music with the drums. There is nothing more rewarding and fun than playing with and for other people. Whether you are interested in learning how to play your favorite pop or rock song or a jazz standard, I can teach you what makes drumming unique in each style, and what you will need to know to express yourself in the instrument.

About Francisco
I was born in Argentina. I began playing bass when I was ten years old, while my younger brother began playing drums. I started taking bass classes, and also formed several bands as a bass player, although the drums had always been sounding in the back of my head. After listening to Tool’s Danny Carey and Mike Portnoy of Dream Theater, at the age of 17, I realized the drums were my true love, and began studying the instrument. I continued playing bass in several bands, until I joined the band The Evenfall as a drummer, in 2009. At this time, my family was considering moving to the U.S, and that's when I got the chance to apply to the Berklee College of Music. I graduated Magna Cum Laude in 2012 with a degree in Drumset Performance. There I studied with the most respected drummers and teachers in the world, and learned not only from their
way of playing, but also from their style of teaching. I have a curriculum which includes material learned from all my years as Berklee, as well as material I acquired in my own experience performing and recording with many acts and in many different genres, ranging from Rock and Metal, to Latin and Jazz, and even Musical Theater.

*** Lesson Details ***
I custom make my lessons to fit each of my student's needs and goals. If you want to study Metal drumming, I won't aim my lessons to teach the same material I teach to a student who wants to learn Latin music, or Jazz. Music is never ending, and different music affects each person differently. Also, every person has a different voice in their instrument. That's why what works for what some people doesn't do it for others. I focus on what is important to YOU, and what better suits your interests.

*** Travel Equipment ***
I could provide the students with sticks and the materials to work on. I would expect the students to provide the necessary books when needed. A drumset is not required for beginners, although it will be for more advanced students.

*** Specialties ***
My teaching method focuses on the interest of the student. I try to have my classes follow each student's own interest and goals, and guide them on the best possible ways to help them achieve those. I try to present short term goals for my students, to ensure that they can experience a feeling on success that will keep them motivated. I specialize in Rock and Pop music, as well as Latin music (Brazilian and Afro-Caribbean in particular).

Francisco is such a great teacher. He tailors his lessons to your needs and challenges you just enough. I took lessons with him for about 8 months, which ended when he moved to the west coast. Otherwise I would still be with him. But he taught me so much and still checks in to make sure I'm sticking with it months after our sessions have ended. He genuinely cares about his students and their love of music and he enjoys teaching and motivating others to play. I highly recommend Francisco as a teacher as he will get you where you want to be.

I took up drums 2 years ago in my early 40's. Francisco was my first drum teacher, and he patiently introduced me to the instrument, exposed me to many different musical concepts and traditions, and really increased my interest in music and drumming. He is an amazing player, and I learned much from watching him play in lessons and also live. Unfortunately he moved from Boston to CA, which was my loss.I reccommend him without reservation.

I took many lessons with Francisco after a period of relative inactivity from playing drums on a consistent basis. I had been playing for years, but had unfortunately become rusty and out of practice at the time. Francisco helped me build my chops back up, and introduced me to new unique concepts in phrasing, approaching grooves, technique, and much more. Francisco's down-to-earth and very friendly personality, combined with his obvious passion for drums and percussion, made every lesson an event I looked forward to. He gave me a lot to think about each lesson, providing me with great musical concepts that can be studied for life. Francisco isn't a teacher who only thrives teaching beginners. As a drummer for several years with lots of performing experience, he still managed to significantly help improve my playing and reignite my spark in drumming. Thanks, dude

About Chris
I graduated with honors from The Percussion Institute Of Technology (P.I.T.) at Musicians Institute in 1988. Since then I have recorded and toured around the world with such artists as, Gary Allan, Delaney Bramlett, Greg London and the Rich Harper Band to name a few. I believe on keeping music fun and tailor my lessons to accommodate exactly what each student is trying to achieve.

*** Lesson Details ***
My philosophy is to keep music fun. I have a laid back style of teaching but I expect my students to practice and bring their "A" game to every lesson. I try to always keep students engaged, challenged and motivated depending on their specific goals. After 6 months with me you can expect to know how to read dru
m music and have a grasp of playing various beats on the drum kit. I also talk about playing musically with other musicians and how to get gigs and keep those gigs with your talent and positive attitude towards those that you will work with.

*** Studio Equipment ***
The studio lessons in the teacher's home are taught in the finished garage with a complete studio, sound room, and a drum set. Seating is available and room is air conditioned. Parking is on the street.

Tapp's: The studio includes small private rehearsal rooms with a room that includes 2 electronic drum sets.

I've been studying with Paul for a few years, and I would not be close to my current skill level without his instruction and guidance. Paul is a patient and brilliant observer and expert analyst in developing technique. Every time I think I've got it, he makes some acute observation that brings it to a deeper level of refinement and nuance. And I've learned from him how crucial this refinement is to sounding good in everything you play on the kit. Beyond building the foundation of technique, with Paul you will learn various grooves in different genres, reading notation and drum charts, soloing and comping, as well as prioritizing and organizing your approach and having the right attitude so people will want to play with you. Lessons are always fun and inspiring, and Paul is patient and sensitive to individual needs. He also brings to lessons his experience as a professional drummer. I've seen him perform professionally in various styles: small jazz ensemble, big band, latin, rock, funk etc. And he always sounds great: solid and musical with a great feel. His combination of skill, experience, knowledge, profound insight and sensitivity make him an invaluable teacher for those interested in developing as an artist.

I've been teaching drums to students of all ages since 2004. I'm available for lessons at my home studio or your house, and I'm great with kids, however I ask that your child is at least 6 years old. Within the first few lessons, you'll be able to play basic drum beats and play along to some of your favorite songs. At the same time, we'll work on good drumming technique, note reading, developing good timing, and more. I'm a very patient and positive teacher and would be excited to hear from you! I pride myself on having long-term student retention. :)

About Alexa
Hi, there! My name is Alexa and I would be excited to be your drum teacher. I've been teaching private lessons since 2004 and have helped 100+ students become better drummers. I strive to make my lessons fun yet productive. If you are a beginner, you'll learn all the foundations for good drumming such as technique and rudiments..... while at the same time learning to play along to your favorite songs. If you are intermediate / advanced, we'll identify which areas of your drumming can be improved to make you a more well rounded musician.

I went to Berklee College of Music and earned a degree in Professional Music in 2004 (GPA 3.9). I also attended the L.A. Music Academy from 1998-99 (now Los Angeles College of Music).

I'm a very patient and motivated teacher, and I'm great with kids and parents. I look forward to helping you (or yo
ur child) reach your drumming goals!

I was a beginner drummer looking to learn a new skill. Alexa was a patient and extremely talented teacher. I looked at many different individuals before choosing her. I was trying to find someone who was educated in music through formal schooling (To have a strong background in the fundamentals who could actually teach me as an absolute novice) as well as someone that is currently performing (who Rocks !). I have seen her perform a number of times and she is truly talented.
I felt so comfortable with her as a teacher (and a person) I also had her teach my youngest son (who was 11 at the time).
She never missed an appointment, and was always on time (very important for a drummer)

Drums were my first instrument. I can teach you to play whatever style you want on drums. You only have to put in the practice.

About Theodore
I'm a composer, pianist/keyboardist, and drummer who likes to think out-of-the-box, but not without knowing what it's like to have been in the box. Everyone has to figure out what they want for themselves, and everyone has a different journey to figuring out what they want. In teaching composition, piano and drum performance, I'm here to tailor music lessons to the individual, based on what inspires that person most, and what they want to accomplish most musically.

Since age 14, I've played thousands of stages across the US with different gospel artists, was commissioned by the Grand Rapids Symphony of Grand Rapids, Michigan, and the West Michigan Flute Orchestra, scored a film by Symmetry Films, and scored multiple theatre productions. And after all that, my number one goal through music is to help people find what inspires them.

Our two sons (10 and 8) had lessons with Theo for two years. Having worked with several music teachers with our older children, I can say with honesty that Theo is the most effective instructor I've known. he's very attentive to students' individual approaches, and structures lessons around specific interests and needs. For instance, one of our kids showed a strong interest in composition, so Theo helped him record his ideas, then they transcribed the music together. Both of our children grew quickly in skill and understanding during their time with Theo. We look forward to connecting with him again on this platform!

For my beginners, we play the full drum set right away, at the first lesson. It is not necessary to own a drum set for about 3-4 months. I have a method in place which includes learning beats, reading, speed exercises, music analysis, and playing along with favorite songs. For my advanced and intermediate students, we work on the material given to me by such greats as Mike Mangini and Gary Chaffee while I was at Berklee College Of Music. It is also very easy for me to switch gears and explain material that my students bring to me. Some examples include working on school auditions, learning how to play their favorite songs for talent shows, advice on joining a band etc. I've taught almost 20,000 drum lessons at several music schools, including Berklee. Parents love me because I am strict and we work on their kids' ability to focus and listen (!). Students love me because I push them and treat them like adults. About Dylan
I have played on national tv, toured the U.S. a few times with signed bands, I endorse various drum and cymbal companies, and my drumming can be heard (and played) in the Guitar Hero and Rock Band video games. I studied at Berklee College Of Music for drum set and at University Of New Hampshire for classical percussion.

I've taught almost 20,000 drum lessons over 25 years to hundreds of students. I've taught at several music schools in LA and Boston, including Berklee College Of Music. Past students have included kids and adults with special needs, professional musicians, and famous actors. My students play gigs, concerts, and teach their own drum students.

For my beginners, we play the full drum set right away although it is not necessary to own drums. For my advanced and intermediate students, I pass on the material given to
me while I attended Berklee. It is also easy for my lessons to switch gears so we can on work on material that the students may need for their individual situation (i.e. preparing for school auditions, learning favorite songs for talent shows, etc.). My lessons are demanding, I am strict, and that's why my students are awesome.
