About Erick

I have 15 years of music teaching experience and I have learned how to explain what seems "complicated" in the most effective and simple manner. My philosophy is that music must make us happy. We have to enjoy the process of learning, practicing, and performing music. It it's not fun it's not going to work for the student or the audience. I keep an inner child alive whenever I play and teach because it is my way to channel the purest feelings through my fingers and my instrument.
I learned classical music with teachers in music conservatories parallel to my own "by ear method" playing dozens of pop songs from the radio. That means that I am very flexible when it comes to teaching methods. I am happy teaching popular songs along with what's called "the traditional piano books." I'm not a purist. I love Beethoven
's music as much as Maroon 5's music. It's all beautiful to me. I can teach piano, guitar, music theory, music recording and production, and composition.

Yamaha P-60 88 weighted keys digital piano

*** Specialties ***
I specialize in classical and pop music. I use various methods such as Bastien, Thompson, Czerny, Hanon, as well as ear training, and playing by ear approach, and always tailor my lessons to my students.

Nothing is quite as rewarding as writing your own material, however, it's easy to feel stuck with an idea if you don't know how to fully develop it. I will help you take that one lick/chord change/vocal melody you've been working on and turn it into a fully fleshed out song. We'll take the time to learn the individual roles and functions of certain song sections, and pretty soon you'll be writing your best material with much more focus and confidence!

About Jonah
Learning to play the guitar is one of the most rewarding experiences you'll ever have. Whether this is your first time picking up the guitar or you've been playing for years, I'll make sure your lessons are structured and paced in a way that's specifically catered to your goals.

I've worked with dozens of students of all ages over the last seven years and seen each of them achieve major breakthroughs and discover/rekindle a passion for music.

If you're interested in getting started, I'd love to hear from you! I teach out of my studio in Culver City but am available for in-home lessons as well.

My son has been taking lessons with Jonah for almost a year, and really loves working with him. I recently decided to join in with lessons of my own to try to progress out of the guitar rut I was stuck in. Jonah is pleasure to work with. Whether you're a beginner or beyond, Jonah is a patient, capable, and engaging teacher. We recommend him highly.

I've been studying and teaching songwriting for 7 years, and my students and I get excited when we develop a melody or lyric that rolls around in our head for days. The most important elements of a successful song are melody and lyric hooks that are remembered the very first time they are heard by an audience.. Within the first few lessons, you'll be able to explore your song ideas, and as time goes on you'll be able to create your own original songs. I love working with students of all ages and experience levels, and I can't wait to meet you!

About Carl
I am very high level, but I also love working with beginners.
I have studied all the major singing teachers of the last 250 years, and my book, "Sing Batter Fast", includes everything I have learned from them, plus my own singing and teaching experience.

During your first lesson I will do a computer analysis of your voice. I find out what your goals are in singing, what your favorite kinds of music are, and I take you in the direction you want to go and show you how to get there in the shortest possible time.

Think you're the only one who feels that terrifying nervousness? Most everyone does, including the biggest stars. The four books I've written on singing are entitled, "SING BETTER FAST", complete vocal technique in brief, "HOW TO CONQUER NERVOUSNESS FOR SINGERS" in which I'll teach you to not only handle, but direct extrem
e nervousness into your singing, making your performance soar. I've also written, "HOW TO GET STANDING OVATIONS FOR SINGERS" to teach you to drive your audience to their feet for a standing ovation, and "ADVANCED SINGING", all available on Amazon.

I always record my students so that they know how they sound to others. I can make a CD of them singing to background music if they wish, included in the cost of the lessons for no additional charge.

Learn to sing beautifully, and most important, emotionally. Learn the parts of your vocal instrument, How each works, How they work together. Develop Breath support (80% of singing). Learn "The Singer's Formant", that "ringing" sound of professionals. Learn learn about Resonance, Overtones, Vibrato, How to sing high notes, Learn the "singing vowels", and more.

I would rather teach singing than eat chocolate, and if you knew how much I like chocolate, you'd know my passion for teaching singing. I've been studying voice since third grade, and singing and teaching singing for eighteen years.

I've had nine singing teachers myself, so I know just how you feel. I get you comfortable, and I listen closely to what you want to do and where you want to go with your singing voice.

My students learn all the important aspects of singing right away, rather than drawing them out over time.

I teach beginner, intermediate, advanced, and professional students of all ages.

I teach all styles of singing, including pop, blues, gospel, classical voice, rock, jazz, scat singing, belting, country and western, and rap.

I teach singing in English, Italian, Spanish, and German.

My Bachelor's and Master's Degrees are from California State University Dominguez Hills.

Put your singing voice in my hands. You'll love what happens.

*** Lesson Details ***
My introductory class includes a computer analysis of your singing voice, then describes the main parts of your vocal instrument, how each works, and how they work together. It teaches you what a song is, and how to sing a song well right away.

During the first lesson I record every student and play it back, both for computer analysis, and also so the student can hear how they sound to others. Remember the first time you heard yourself in a recording and said, "That's not me!" I'll explain that to you, and why it's so important to record yourself and listen to your recordings.

Your lessons are designed toward YOUR goals and desires in singing, and include specific guides for your between lessons practice sessions.

I also teach how to sing karaoke and impress an audience. I've been studying audience psychology for more than 15 years, and MY ENTIRE ORIENTATION IN SINGING IS TO, "DRIVE YOUR AUDIENCE TO THEIR FEET FOR A STANDING OVATION!"

I record CD's with custom labels for students, with their picture, included in the price of the lessons. You can have a CD of yourself singing for you to to play, to give to your family and friends, or perhaps to sell.

*** Studio Equipment ***
Lessons are in my home studio, with recording equipment which we use to record you in lessons and on CD's, high quality studio monitor speakers that let you sound exactly the way you sound to others, high quality recording microphones, computer, control panel, keyboard, and music stands.

*** Travel Equipment ***
When I come to your location for lessons I bring portable equipment to do a computer analysis of the student's voice, and to record and play back my student's progress for analysis and discussion.

*** Specialties ***
I teach singing in English, Italian, Spanish, & German, in all styles, including Pop, Blues, Gospel, Classical, Rock, Jazz, Scat Singing, Belting, Country and Western, and Rap.

Here's how I help teach songwriters:

-Chords/Progressions: I help instrumentalists get out of ruts they're stuck in and find new chord progressions. OR if you're new, I'll show you what's out there. I will also show you commonly used progressions so you know what's used. We will analyze successful songs to see what the writer did and then attempt to emulate those ideas in writing exercises
-Melodies: We'll learn what makes a good melody, and we'll write melodies that are good hooks.
-Lyrics: We'll talk about what makes good lyrics and learn to write good lyrics by modeling lyrics after other songs and writing and rewriting your own lyrics.
-Music Business: If you're interested as well we can learn how the music business works for songwriters.

Everybody can write a song, right? Well mainly, yes, with some musical background, a song can be written.
When you're pushing for a certain level though, it can really help to have some tools to analyze both your composition and performance to hone the piece, the style, and the arrangement.
I have written or produced dozens of songs, many of which have been featured in major motion pictures or released in their own right putting me in a perfect position to help you with your work and share all my secrets!!

About Andrew
British born and Educated at London's prestigious Trinity College of Music and The Royal Academy of Music, my professional musical career has spanned over two decades to date. I have performed with world renowned acts such as Sia, Dave Stewart and Horace Andy, and have been a featured recording artist on many of the worlds most famous film scores while myself having authored or co-authored over 30 movie scores.
A Suzuki violin student since the age of 3, I added piano, guitar, singing and composition during my teenage years. The Suzuki method encourages advanced aural development from very early on and this has turned out to be my strongest suit. With my ear, I have impressed some of the most notable orchestrators, composers, directors and producers in London, Hollywood and the world over. In fact, it was these on the spot aural magic tr
icks that allowed me to impress the Hollywood composer that first invited me to Los Angeles to work on my first blockbuster. That opportunity led to many years of success in the industry and some notoriety.
I have always had a passion for teaching, sharing my knowledge with others and watching other people take immense pleasure in their own achievements. I have been told time and time again that I have a very special gift for teaching and I would very much like to share it with you, whether you want to learn an instrument, musicianship, ear training, composition, hone your vocal or mic skills or learn how to arrange an orchestral piece in just a few hours!
I look forward to talking to you about your specific needs and goals and having the opportunity to help you realize them in a fun friendly and authentic atmosphere.

I will show you how to create songs you are proud of!

My degree and my experience in teaching people of all types of learning styles qualifies me to teach you the principles of music theory and the chordal and modal vocabularies you need to take your compositions to the next level.

I will increase your chord and progression vocabularies; teach you the concepts of rhythm sets and structure; familiarize you with triads, modes, scales; and show you how to construct melodies, harmonies, and riffs for your songs.

I can also teach you how to compose for other instruments such as drums, bass, vocals, piano, and more.

If you want to take it to the next level, I can teach you how to read sheet music, how to create chords using intervals, and how to identify and transcribe music by sound through ear training.

About Drew
Your progress and enjoyment is my primary concern. You can be sure that you will progress dramatically if you follow my instructions and practice guidelines.

Whether you are a beginning guitar student, a songwriter hoping to enhance their compositions, or a veteran player hoping to hone their skills, I can help you achieve your goals and become the musician you want to be.

If you have been wanting to start a band or simply play with friends, I can also teach you the fundamentals to playing in a group.

Music is fun; practice should not seem like a chore. I make it manageable for you by breaking down the techniques you need to learn into simple exercises that you can apply to the songs you want to learn.

My lessons are 100% customized to your needs and what you are interested in learning. Any genre, any style, any song.

-
-What To Expect--
Professionalism - I want to see YOU improve and learn to play confidently. I don't teach for a quick buck between gigs. I teach because it is something I am good at and it makes me excited to help people progress in music.

Passion - I am an active performer, session player, and writer. I teach because I am also passionate about educating my students, and it is something in which I am very skilled.

Adaptability - Each lesson is tailored to the needs and goals of that student. I can adapt to many different styles of learning and instruction. If you do not understand a particular skill, it is my duty to find an explanation that suits your learning style.

Efficiency - I am prepared for each lesson and will provide you with all the materials you need. I have access to professional level tablature and sheet music for thousands of songs, and I will have any handouts or notes ready for you before the lesson. Any notes that we go over in the lesson will be emailed to you by the day's end so that you don't have to waste valuable lesson time writing things down.

Manageable Practice - The quicker you improve, the more fun playing will be, the more you'll practice! I am highly trained and have gleaned the most useful methods from the hundreds of lessons I've taken in my life to help you improve as fast as possible. I will give you quick exercises and pieces of the songs you want to learn to help you progress without making practice seem like a chore.

24/7 Support - I am available by phone from 10 am to 10 pm Monday - Friday and 24 hours a day by email. If you do not understand a concept that we covered in our lesson, are unsure about how to practice a specific technique, or have any other questions pertaining to what we have gone over in our lessons, I am available to happily answer all your questions.

Drew is an excellent teacher and I recommend him without reservations. I'm a casual guitar player, and working with Drew has significantly improved my playing and increased the enjoyment I get out of playing.

The key aspects that I believe make him an effective teacher:
1) he listens to what you want to accomplish, and works toward those goals
2) he has a list of very specific, bite-size skills and bits of knowledge that he can dole out. This ensures that you can keep learning without feeling overwhelemed
3) he knows music theory forwards and backwards, and can explain the complex concepts in intuitive ways
4) very flexible with lesson scheduling
5) he keeps notes on what you cover in each lesson, doesn't lose his place
6) he keeps you motivated without making you feel guilty for not practicing.

Drew has the natural sensibilities of a great teacher. He is patient, listens well, and meets you wherever you're at. He is also, EXTREMELY skilled with a lot of teaching experience. I came to him at a long-time learning plateau and he immediately identified where I could improve. Learning just a few technical adjustments and basic theory, I could suddenly play new chords that I couldn't before. He also helped create a strong basis from which I could continue to teach myself. Lessons were fun too! I am very grateful for having found Drew.

I'm the kind of person who had never touched music in her life, didn't know how to tell the beat of the music and had no idea how guitar works. As my 2015 new year resolution, I decided to pick up on guitar to challenge myself and I yelped the highest rating private teacher. Since then Drew's lesson has become one of the best part of my life. I have been going to his class every week for a year. I was afraid to be laughed at in the beginning because I had zero foundation. But Drew made the class very interesting and made me feel really comfortable. What sets him aside is not only the exceptional music knowledge, but also his skill to understand people and teach in various methods.I loved all the classes I had and found it very beneficial. In conclusion, he is amazing. I totally recommend him as a teacher, a friend and a mentor.
