As a trained, classical singer, I love teaching classical technique and the traditions of the art for.

About Carla
Why Choose Carla:

• Work on your singing in a warm, friendly and private studio with an experienced teacher that makes singing fun! Students of all ages are always welcome!

• Member of the National Association For Teachers of Singing (the only selective professional organization for Voice Teachers) whose mission is: To encourage the highest standards of the vocal art and of ethical principles in the teaching of singing; and to promote vocal education and research at all levels, both for the enrichment of the general public and for the professional advancement of the talented.

• Voice students learn more then just how to sing, they learn how to be performers and musicians.

• I will not take on a student I cannot help.

• Voice students have MANY performance opportunities offered to them that are appropriate for their level
.

My unique studio uses the basics of Bel Canto technique to teach all styles of music to all ages. Parents often comment on how much fun their students have in lessons, while getting feedback from outside professionals (adjudicators, directors, etc) on how much their technique has improved. Adult students are commonly shocked by how easy singing can feel as they meet their career goals.

Current students can be seen performing with:
America's Got Talent!
Hardrock Cafe LAS VEGAS!
Broadway Bound
Bellevue Opera
Puget Sound Concert Opera
Seattle Gilbert and Sullivan
5th Avenue Theater
Theater Schmeater
13 Coins
Hwy 99 Blues Club
The Showbox
Chop Suey
Dicken's Carolers
And MORE!

I realize that voice lessons can be REALLY scary and I totally understand why, especially for kids and beginners! I do my best to use modern psycology and technology to help my beginning students feel confortable in what can be a frightening new endeavor.

Personal Performance Experience: Extensive lead and supporting opera performing experience with Bellevue Opera, Puget Sound Concert Opera, Skagit Opera, Tacoma Opera, Portland Opera,Seattle Gilbert and Sullivan, Seattle Opera and Seattle Youth Symphony. Prior to that spent 7 years performing Jazz and Gospel and 10 years in musical theater.

Personal Education: BA in Music from Seattle Pacific University 2002, MM in Opera Performance (Unfinished due to 1 year of German) at University of Illinois at Champaign-Urbana.

Teaching Experience: 8 years as a private voice teacher in my own studio, 3.5 years teaching opera workshops throughout the USA, 2 years working in studio with local bands as a 'fixer.'

++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++

Have you tried lessons before and felt unsuccessful?

Not all students learn the same way and for years voice teachers have been treating every student as an aural learner. What I have found is that students with a history of struggling with matching pitch simply need to be taught in a different manner. That is why I now ask students to take a voluntary learning style inventory prior to their first lesson.

Visual Learner? Not a problem when "Adam" started with me he could only match pitch 30% of the time. But after finding that he needed to see concepts in order to learn them I have now made all of his lesson visually based and he is now averaging 90% pitch accuracy 3 months later.

Kinisthetic Learner? I had the hardest time helping "Clark" learn new music until we realized that by taking the time to have him play his parts himself on the piano he could learn them in minutes. He just is a person that learns by doing and now that we know that, music has become so much less frustrating for him.

Physical Learner? With "Steve" the traditional 'visualization' style of teaching that most voice teachers start with just wasn't helping him improve his sound and reach the high notes we both knew he had. After we figured out that he needed large muscle movements to understand concepts I added the use of a resistance band to his lessons. He has had so much success with this technique that he 'stole' my resistance band so he could use it in recording sessions and before he got on stage.

The stories just go on and on.

Students help structure their lessons by providing a general overview of their goals during their first lesson. Just as not everyone's voice sounds the same, neither does everyone's lesson!

A typical lesson begins with vocal warm-ups specifically targeted to strengthen the students technique and help them learn more about their voices capabilities. Next students work on songs of their choosing, that help them develop the freedom of voice, control, stamina and overall vocal health that they will need to be confident in their performing.

Additional opportunities for performance are provided for students as desired. These may include Karaoke Nights (for adult beginners), no-stress recitals, studio sing-a-longs, community choirs and small roles in local productions.

Carla is a teacher who focuses on each individual student. I have observed the results of her students’ success in multiple music genres. I have studied with Carla for classical training, musical theater, jazz, and audition prep, and have seen positive results in each of these areas. Carla really works to make sure her students gain experience (she often arranges public performance opportunities at venues such as coffee shops, etc.) and she makes sure her students are aware of (and prepared for) upcoming auditions. Each lesson is followed up with an email from Carla re-capping the main points stressed in that lesson. I highly recommend Carla, whether you are a beginner or a seasoned performer.

I focus on creating a safe and free sound. Alignment is the basis a great technique. Each person is different, and knowing how to help them release unwanted tension is critical.

The vocal folds are the core of the sound, and must be given the utmost care and consideration. Proper hydration is essential. They are also muscles, that need strengthening exercises and time for them to change. This will improve your vocal endurance and range. As a highly trained voice teacher, I can hear if the vocal folds are behaving in a healthy and efficient manner. It is essential that your teacher understand how to care for these delicate components of the human voice.

Vocal resonance is how opera singers are heard without amplification. It can be enhanced through awareness and coordination of the various portions of the vocal tract. Greg's a very good teacher. At first I wasn't sure how all the vocal exercises and breathing that we were doing were fitting together, but by the 5th lesson, I could see my singing improve significantly. Greg has a lot of experience, but doesn't try to overwhelm you or do things that are unnecessary. He works on what he thinks you're capable doing, but also guides you past your comfort zone a little bit each lesson as well. Recommended.

Scott Scully worked for the Plano ISD district as a private voice teacher back in the mid 2000’s at my school, Plano East SHS. He gave lessons from 6th grade through 12th grade. Under his lessons, our students gained confidence, vocal skills that encompassed agility, strength, superior breath support, and superb technique. Scott has a great sense of humor and an ability to connect with anyone in the teaching setting. I can only imagine what new strategies and techniques he has developed over the many years learning and perfecting his craft at the MET. I only wish he lived closer so that our students could continue to take from Scott.

Every lesson I teach is a unique and individual experience. I teach from a foundation based in the classical vocal style rooted in bel canto, however, I tailor every lesson to the student. I first determine what are the students goals and needs, and then we find the best approach for the student to learn. It is important that the student has a voice in what they sing, and how they learn; however, I will insist that they build a solid foundation to ensure that they become strong musicians who can sing in every genre if they choose, and can sing safely with vocal health as a number one priority.

About Giustino
Giustino Carrano, conductor and baritone, is a musician with tenacity and passion. As an avid performer, vocal coach, and conductor he has enjoyed a musical career on multiple continents. His recent engagements include the role of Marcello in La Bohemé, and El Dancaïro in Carmen; he has appeared with Indianapolis Opera, Pensacola Opera, Florentine Opera, Opera Ouvert, and Opera Western Reserve. Mr. Carrano received his Master’s in performance under the tutelage of Dr. Kathleen Maurer. This Season he will be joining The Belle Ensemble as the role of Uberto in La Serva Padrona, joining the Little Traverse Civic Theatre in The Christmas Schooner, and performing the role of Arasamene in the World Premiere of Serse by Isaac Wittenberg.

As an educator, clinician, and vocal coach he has worked in Chicago, Michigan, Wisconsin, Indiana, and Fl
orida, as well as toured Europe with the Blue Lake Fine Arts Camp Youth Choir. He is an active member in the National Association of Teachers of Singing(NATS), and a regular adjudicator in the Great Lakes Region.

I believe that all people are singers; singing and music are the most natural human forms. Every student is unique, and every voice is as unique as a fingerprint; that is why every student and lesson is approached with the individual needs and goals in mind.

With each individual student, I have 4 objectives:
1. Learn what the student's musical goals are
2. Set tangible actions to obtain goals
3. Give real feedback and track progress
4. Create opportunities for student to dream bigger

About Brittany
I have been actively singing and performing since I was three years old and playing piano since I was 7. I graduated from Northwest University with a BA in Music in 2018. Most of my musical background began and remained in the church playing and leading worship teams. I am now leading the worship teams for a church in Seattle and love getting to train and inspire others in their musical gifts.

My love for music blossomed from my love of performing and creating. My whole life has been centered upon music... at home, at school, at work, at church, at my ballet studio, and more. My husband and I even met because of a band and a choir... just like a romantic music movie! In our free time, we enjoy creating covers of songs together and playing in bands with one another.

I have experience in a variety of vocal genres including classical,
pop, choral, jazz, broadway, and recording. I was the biggest choir nerd you could meet in high school and college and spent my entire class day in and out of the choir room.

I began playing piano at 7 years old because I wanted to impress everyone during music class. I eventually fell in love with the instrument for myself and prided myself on my ability to sight read music. My favorite form of piano is playing pop and worship music where you are given the freedom to create beautiful sounds out of very little written direction.

My passion in life is to se people come alive and create something beautiful. My love for music and desire to create is something I hope to spread to others. The moment you see someone play a tricky note sequence or sing something the never thought they could hit is the most rewarding feeling there is.
