Classical Voice

I began my journey with music playing the flute in the fourth grade, began taking voice lessons in high school, and the rest is history! I am a trained opera and musical theater singer. I love to sing and teach all genres. 

I also love visual arts: painting, drawing, clay-making, etc. A passion of mine is crossing over my love for the two art forms by creating art that goes along with the music I make. 

I have taught all ages in private voice lessons, and I currently teach in an elementary school. I have experience with special needs individuals and love working with all ability levels.

I have a Bachelor's degree in vocal music education and a Master's degree in vocal performance with an extra certification in theater. I have been a classically trained singer for nine years and have enjoyed on-stage opportunities with opera companies such as Mobile Opera and Opera Mississippi. 

In our voice lessons, I will give specific pointers and techniques on breathing while singing, pitch accuracy, tone/timbre, and acting while singing. I love singing and teaching all styles of music: opera, jazz, musical theater, pop, rock, and more. I want to help you keep your voice healthy while you sing whatever genre you would like.

I have the tools to include scientific and pedagogical explanations of vocal techniques, and I can assist you with Diction when singing in a language other than English; especially with French, German, and Italian. A specialty of mine is helping my students choose audition materials and prepare audition songs and/or monologues. Song choice and confidence are the two most important factors in auditions! 

Along with voice lessons, I teach music theory lessons, acting lessons, and can prepare students who are reviewing music history and/or theory to enter a Master's or DMA program. 

Above all else, I will cater to my students' needs. When a person gains more confidence and creativity in their musical abilities, they will become a more confident person overall and vice versa. I am excited to guide my students along their personal and musical journeys.

Carley is fabulous!  I've been preparing for an audition and wanted to improve and gain confidence in my singing; I have done both, way more than I thought possible, and I have had so much fun in the process!  Carley is very supportive and attentive, and she's creative and helpful in how she explains different concepts for you to understand them.  She's kind, fun, and great at what she does, and I couldn't recommend her more.

Carley is an amazing teacher. She's extremely patient and takes her time personalizing each lesson to her students. She helped me get out of my shell and find my voice. I don't have enough good things to say about her as a teacher I would highly recommend her to anyone wanting to break into music or someone looking to refine their vocals.

In just 15 minutes of my first lesson with Carley, my voice became stronger and clearer!  Along with working on my voice, she is also giving me pointers on how to present emotion using body movements and facial expresions.  Carley's experience in theatre gives her a unique ability to not only sing a song, but also to "perform" a song.  I have recommended her to others .

I started taking lessons with Carley because I wanted to improve my vocal skills for group performances and I noticed my voice get stronger in only a few lessons!! She’s so patient and loves watching her students succeed; I’ve already recommended her to several others.
