We have had 4 or 5 lessons now with Michael and with each one, my 9 year old son learns so much. I'm amazed at the pace at which he is moving; Michael had him playing a song after his first lesson. We sometimes do lessons at Michael's location and other times on Skype. My son really likes Michael and he wants to work hard and keep learning. I highly recommend guitar with Michael.

You got to know the rules 1st, before you can then break the rules. This is how you develop your own unique style. And it's what separates the Pro Players from the rest of the pack.
But even if you don't want to play professionally, maybe you just want to learn a few chords, licks, songs, for yourself, or to impress friends. That's okay too!
I welcome every level and style. I always learn something from my students. That's what music is all about. Learning & trading tips and licks from other musicians.
Bottom Line Is... I can help you learn and progress on your instrument faster...

Hi! I'm Brad, and I love the folk, bluegrass, and country-blues guitar work of people like Doc Watson, Mississippi John Hurt, and Merle Travis. If you're trying to play finger-style, or flat-pick some bluegrass tunes, I'd love to help you achieve your goals!
Hello! My name is Brad, and I love playing acoustic guitar. I specialize in folk, finger-style and bluegrass guitar, but can also help out with any of the basic skills you'll need to have an overall understanding of your instrument!
For the last seven years, I've made a full-time living as a performing musician in Charleston, South Carolina. Whether I'm touring, playing restaurants, or playing events and weddings, I always have to stop and be amazed at how far the guitar has taken me. I think it's a privilege to do what I do, and definitely a goal worth reaching for!
Some of my favorite guitar players include Doc Watson, Merle Travis, Tony Rice, Mississippi John Hurt, Norman Blake, and Tommy Emmanuel. I love everything from Doc's folky finger-style to Tony's lightning fast bluegrass licks. These players all played from the hear
t and used the guitar as a vehicle to tell fascinating stories, and that's what I aspire to do as well.
Learning any new skill can be challenging, but with the right approach and a good attitude, anything is possible!
We focus on playing and writing music immediately, the theory is second, music playing and having fun is first!
I'm 30 years old and I have been playing music of all kinds since I was 15. I practiced 3 years before I actually played with anyone and once I did I learned so much more. I don't want you to make the same mistake, try out my 30 minute discount rate and we can make sure you are having fun and playing music in no time, if you want to expand into harder lessons then we can worry about that later.
Guitar is the most amazing instrument to me. I got really lucky because someone gave me an electric when i was 12 and I just played it. I didn't even know they had to be tuned at first! Once I started playing with people I learned so much so fast. I also went to school for recording and am able to use Preamp features to increase the quality that you hear while we are playing together. I use loops to demonstrate ideas and also to keep time while we jam together. I promise you within a few lessons we will be making sweet music together. If you want to know theory and all the other mysterious interesting corners of music we will get there. It is all about playing and having fun. I look forward to hearing from you.

Steven has been teaching private music lessons for more than ten years. He plays and teaches piano, guitar, bass, ukulele, mandolin, banjo and voice. Steven has worked with students of all ages (ages 4-early 60’s) and just genuinely enjoys sharing the gift of music with any and everyone! Steven believes that we are students in life and even though he has been playing professionally for half of his life he still sees himself as a student and loves learning from his students as well. Steven began his musical journey at the age of 7 taking private piano lessons. In his early teens he was introduced to the guitar where his love for music and music education came full circle. In high school Steven took AP music theory and was the first chair guitarist in his high school jazz band. Though Steven was accepted to Berklee College of Music and B
elmont university he ended up attending VCU. While at VCU he took private jazz guitar lessons under Mike Ess. During his college years he formed two successful bands (Bella Blue, and Steve Carter Connexion) and also joined the popular hip hop group Earthtone. All of these groups were comprised of other outstanding musicians that have gone on to pursue professional careers in music as well.
After graduating VCU Steven continued his path in music teaching private lessons, playing guitar in church, and being a member and “hired gun” for multiple funk/rock/and R&B groups in the DMV area. Currently he is the lead guitarist and a vocalist for the band Stonebrook which is signed with EastCoast Entertainment, and Dance Candy which is signed with Sam Hill Entertainment. Dance Candy has been the rhythm section for the living legend of tap dance Savion Glover since 2015. They have performed everywhere from New York City to Mexico City and countless theaters in between. In 2017 Steven released his debut solo album entitled “Soullow” which can be found on iTunes, Spotify, and Tidal. Steven believes that getting to share the gift of music and educating youth and adults is an honor and a privilege that he is forever grateful for.

Even beginners can start playing a little bluegrass guitar. Music teacher Matthew K. shares a selection of his favorite easy bluegrass guitar songs...
When I first listened to bluegrass music, I knew I had to learn the guitar parts. They are very intricate and fun! The patterns weave in and out of each other, creating a sound that is unique to the genre. It can be a daunting sound for any beginner - and it may seem impossible at first - but remember, everyone has to start at the beginning …
