I've played guitar since I was only eight years old (over 20 years!) in many different bands, styles, and genres. I played in a traditional Irish ensemble when I was in college and have since picked up banjo, mandolin, harmonica, and bodhran (an Irish hand drum). I love playing and teaching bluegrass music, it's a special challenge both for me and the students!

About Gio
I studied music at UCF (Orlando), focusing on classical and jazz guitar, but I also have years of experience playing rock, blues, folk, hip-hop, and musical theater on both guitar and drums.

I have been teaching guitar, drums, and piano for about eight years to students of all ages. Music is what I'm passionate about and it's what I enjoy. I want to inspire that same passion into the hearts and minds of others.

*** Lesson Details ***
I am a laid-back teacher, fun, and I focus on the needs, abilities, and ambitions of the student. In turn, students must realize that learning an instrument takes a lot of work and dedication. One can't expect to learn very much if s/he only practices or thinks about the instrument during the lesson. If the student is willing to put some time into practicing, then I will help them go far!

*** Studi
o Equipment ***
I have several guitars, a drum kit, djembe, mandolin, clarinet and full-size keyboard.

*** Specialties ***
Guitar: Classical, jazz, American or Irish folk, rock and pop; lead or rhythm.
Drums & Percussion: All genres
Piano: Classical (includes sight reading)

My two boys ages 8 and 9 started taking piano lessons with Nick about a year ago and they love it! He is very professional, always on time, and keeps them entertained the whole time! Although they are progressing at different rates, Nick is always patient and encouraging. I highly recommend Nick and his teaching abilities!

My two daughters have been taking guitar lessons with Nick for 2-1/2 years, both on acoustic guitar and electric guitar. He has even taught my younger daughter how to play the ukulele. Nick is an awesome guitarist teacher. My girls have learned so much from him - how to read and write music, bar chords, strumming patterns, music theory and all different genres of music (like jazz, classical and even reggae). Nick can listen to any song my daughters want to learn, then immediately put the notes down on paper and teach it to them. Under his tuition, they’ve performed solo gigs, in their school talent shows, and for and with their friends. My older daughter also plays electric guitar in a teenage rock band. Thanks so much, Nick!!

My daughter, who is 8, started this fall taking lessons with Nick. We were so happy that she had such an enthusiasm to take lessons and learn an instrument, but even happier that we found someone who shares this same enthusiasm when teaching. Nick is patient and kind and makes learning fun for younger students! Learning an instrument can be frustrating in the beginning...having a teacher who takes that frustration away and patiently teaches and encourages young students is crucial! We are extremely happy and so is our daughter!

Guitar lessons with me are unique because although I am young, I am a very experienced teacher already. I started learning guitar at 10 years old. By the time I was 16 I was gigging and teaching kids in my neighborhood and any Craigslist clients I could find. At 18, I took a 1.5 year program at the Los Angeles College of Music, where I graduated with an AA in guitar performance. Since then I have worked as a professional musician, and also as a teacher /consultant with Adopt the Arts, a non profit started by Matt Sorum (drummer of Guns N Roses, Hollywood Vampires) and director Abby Berman. In my time at Adopt the Arts I have amassed over 4000 teaching hours of teaching kids ages 4-13, so I am very experienced with kids and get along with them great since. I have also been giving other private lessons to people of all ages since 2011. Qualities that make me stand out as a teacher are relatability, patience, and an ability to identify the proper pace for the student to enjoy the ...

Taught at the basic level very well. If you know nothing about music or guitar Tommy's your guy. Goes through all the simple steps at an even pace making the entire experience relaxing. From there giving you the knowledge of your scales and blues scales, teaching you how to make mini solos on the spot really helps out with the musicality of it all. 10/5

At the age of 9, I picked up the electric guitar and haven't put it down since. Following in my parent's footsteps, I began my professional musician career that same year, performing live shows at venues all over the central Florida region. I've strived to tackle all different genres of music, and search for any outlet where he can play.

With my current band, I play guitar driven hard rock and blues with an emphasis on guitar driven! When attending school I played in jazz combos, Brazilian guitar ensembles, Pop and top 40 bands, and at home I play Bach and Mozart sonatas for fun! I had been playing for about 4 years and couldn't really get past a certain point with my guitar skills. I had kinda hit one plateau after another. Derek took my guitar playing to another level. The way he explains the guitar and music is simple but pretty eye opening.

If you're in Bend, I would highly recommend Derek for guitar lessons.
