If you’re looking to expand your chops, learn some bluegrass techniques and in general play faster, then you’ve come to the right place.

About Brandon
I am a Rutgers University graduate with a B.A in Music Performance. I have played guitar for over 10 years, and currently perform all over the tri-state area as a solo acoustic performer and songwriter. I also play in several rock bands. I teach several students ages 5-65 right now, and have taught students how to play guitar for several years. In addition to playing in a rock band, I also am well versed in many music styles including jazz, pop, country and acoustic, songwriting, performance, music theory and recording skills/production.

*** Lesson Details ***
I am a very flexible teacher and suit my teaching style and format to fit each specific student's interests and needs. My goal is to keep the student interested and make learning guitar a fun experience.

I like to find out the kind of music the student listens to, or what
they want to get out of playing guitar, and then mold my teaching around that. For instance, if a student or parent wants a formal musical education, I will teach how to read music notes and teach them from a book. If the student wants to learn simple songs and be able to play around the campfire for fun, I make sure to guide the student toward doing just that.

*** Studio Equipment ***
Dedicated lesson space. Guitars. Music stands. Music books. Seating for parents.

*** Travel Equipment ***
I provide my own instruments I would require them to have te instrument they want to learn available and the necessary power source and amp if needed.

*** Specialties ***
Rock country jazz mainly though I know classical music theory as well as counterpoint etc

I went into banjo lessons not knowing if I could master the instrument or not, being nearly 70 years old. While by no means a master (and never going to be), I have learned so much from Sam and he has shown such patience with me. I often leave my lessons wondering how he ever puts up with me - but he does. His encourgement, laid-back style, expertise and knowledge of music (plus theory) and the banjo is impressive. His good nature makes my lessons so much more pleasant. I would say Sam is a a great teacher for both a beginner or an accomplished musician or in between. He likes to talk and demonstrate (nice and slowly if requested) so I would recommend hour-long lessons at first.

See "Guitar" for more information

Similar to learning acoustic guitar but with more emphasis on the common bluegrass picking techniques, chord progressions, and various scales.

Emphasis on improvisation when dealing with the lead aspect of bluegrass music.

About Christian
My name is Christian L. and I am a 28 year old guitar/music instructor in the Orlando area. My interest in guitar began when I was 12 years old and blossomed into a full time obsession about 3 years later when I started playing small gigs as a solo guitarist playing simple jazz and classical pieces for small art clubs and events. Alongside gigging, I also began teaching guitar, ear training, and music theory when I turned 18 and have been teaching full time ever since. During that time I also spent 4 years in music school for classical guitar. Currently I spend my time teaching, recording, and performing various styles including rock, jazz, pop, hip-hop, musical theater, metal, and country.

Throughout the 8 years I have been an instructor I believe I have refined my teaching style to be as versatile as possible to accommodate any learn
ing style a student may have. I am capable of teaching all styles of guitar at any skill level with an emphasis on ear training and general knowledge of guitar techniques.

Slight disclaimer in regards to lesson length, price, and student interest:

Over the past year or so I have tried a new teaching structure that I find to be quite rewarding for myself and the students I have had. My lessons do not have a maximum time limit, meaning a lesson could go for 2 hours, if that is what the student wanted, for the same price as a 45 min lesson.

This may sound strange in that I would be losing out on a large amount of potential money but the simple answer is this: I love music and guitar as well as teaching music and guitar. If we are in the middle of a great topic that you, the student, is really interested in, there is no way that I am simply going to stop talking about it when the "timer" stops and there is no way I am going to charge you more for getting into a topic you want to learn.

I find that students who spend more time in the lessons tend to become more interested in guitar and thus, better at playing. I do have to instill a minimum time limit of 45 mins however, any less is honestly just not enough time to get anything worth while accomplished.

One last thing, music and guitar have made up the majority of my daily routine for the past 10 or so years and have literally paid for everything that I currently own as I have never had any other type of job. What this means is that I take the craft very seriously and I project that in the lessons. Basically, if you are genuinely interested in learning guitar and music at any skill level, I will show you everything I possibly can to let you meet your goals. However, if you do not take it seriously, as in you don't pick up or even think about the guitar except for lesson days, the lessons may quickly feel pointless.

For more information on what I teach, feel free to look into the category entitled "Guitar" as well as any of the other subcategories that you are interested in.

To be honest, I wouldn't know exactly where to begin to write this review so I am going to just speak from the heart - and a little bit of experience. I started with Christian about a month ago. I held off leaving a review because a good teacher of anything shows they are good by also showing how they build off what what they are teaching and how the student reacts to what he/she is being taught.

I can honestly say that Christian has exceeded my expectations, but it might be for the non-musical aspect that he has. As far as ability goes, just watch his videos and you will see he knows much more than necessary to teach anyone else how to play. However, what makes Christian so great at teaching is that he doesn't translate that ability into unreasonable expectations for his students. He realizes the personal nature of music and will help the student achieve their own personal goals and even more, if the student wishes to do so and puts in the practice and effort of learning.

He has been very good at building on what he has previously taught. Christian has also given much attention to where I seem to connect with music, which is personal only to me. I don't connect to music the same as he does. He knows that and makes an effort to see music from the way I am seeing it, at least he does that during our time in the studio together. This helps each student be the best that THEY can be. This is what a good teacher does. A great teacher also, with time, slowly makes himself obsolete. He teaches the student to figure out how to teach themselves. Christian does this as well. It is not his intention to lose students. But he absolutely wants me to see WHY I am doing what I am doing so I can apply that theory to other aspects of the guitar ON MY OWN.

So, I am not saying he is the best teacher out there. "Best" is a funny word anyway. What I am saying is: Christian will help you be as good as you can possibly be within the realm that you want to be in, as long as you want to actually learn the instrument fully by putting in the work -- work is always necessary.

So I should also mention that I am a song writer and a piano player, and have been for over 20 years. That is why I can say I am speaking from experience. I have had instructors before. I know what it is like and I know what to look for. You can't go wrong with Christian, if you are really looking to learn how to play the guitar and get the most out of your dedication to the instrument.

I have been an active performing musician in Pittsburgh for over ten years now. I am extremely versatile and have played in many varying styles of bands. I am not strict on a specific way to learn the different aspects of playing the guitar. There are many ways to approach the proper way to play whatever songs or styles you gravitate towards. I am well versed in blues, rock, metal, jazz, country, and folk styles. I am currently studying music composition at University of Pittsburgh, while at the same time playing in an original Punk/Metal band and the Pitt small Jazz ensemble. Whatever it is you are trying to learn on the guitar I can provide with the proper information and explanations to help you get there.

About Max
I am hip to all directions and interests in regards to your musical desires. There are of course core concepts in music and playing the guitar that must be internalized in order to progress as a musician but there are many ways to approach these ideas and concepts. Every person has their own unique talents and attitude that will effect how they learn. Improvement will always require work but the act of playing music at any level of ability should be fun and enjoyable. Whatever style of music speaks to you, and whatever ability on the guitar you are after I can provide you with proper direction to help you achieve your goals.

Energetic, supportive & fun... my students will grow as players, musicians and songwriters. Learn new songs, skills, and/or how to play in a band. Together, we will advance you towards your goals.

"You are a great teacher and have helped me to grow in my skills as a musician and a person...I aspire to be a musician just like you.." HP, high school student in Elizabeth's guitar club

About Elizabeth
I love to teach. I have a few openings for students for whom I'm the right teacher. I say "yes" to your dreams of making music, acknowledge your passion and give you tools to improve your skills as a guitarist, songwriter, singer, basic keyboard theory and/or recording. We play in my studio in NYC or online.

"You are a great teacher and have helped me to grow in my skills as a musician and a person...I aspire to be a musician just like you.." HP, high school student in Elizabeth's guitar club

I wrote and performed "Relative Pitch," a one-woman musical comedy at NY's Cherry Lane Theatre, Off Broadway, toured with the Broadway cast of "Beatlemania." My songs have been heard on tv and in film. I've just composed a musical and am working on a ballet(!).

Whether she's enticing you with come-hither invitations or giving a dead
beat beau the boot, Elizabeth shows her depth and versatility as a wicked-smart contemporary singer/songwriter in Sleep Naked.

Elizabeth is a facile cross-genre writer, delivering an alluring, gospel-tinged lullaby in the album's title track, "Sleep Naked," while exhibiting her pluck in the strutting and self-assured send-off songs "I'm Too Beau'ful (for you)" and "One Last Look." Her talents even cover Western Swing with "Back Seat Driver," a good-time road trip replete with rapid-fire wordplay. Through it all, Elizabeth puts forth compelling turns of phrase and agile moments of melody, both as composer and singer.

Even when she's meting out stinging barbs, Elizabeth keeps her good humor, as evidenced by "Enlightenment" (with its erudite imputations) and "Oil" (an indictment of the fossil-fuel industry). But she turns on an emotional dime to render a heartfelt plea in the sultry, loping "Baby Please Come On Home" and serves up a haunting, evocative reverie in "Ferris Wheel."

As if singing, writing, and leading the band weren't enough, Elizabeth lays down some serious guitarwork on Sleep Naked. On acoustic, she is equally deft comping jazz-chord passages ("Enlightenment") as she is fingerpicking Piedmont-style blues ("Leave Me Alone"). When she dons an electric, Elizabeth coaxes slinky, lyrical lines from her Tele for "Sleep Naked" and punctuates the simple acoustic-bass texture of "Baby Please Come On Home" with tasty slide fills.

This is simple, I want to get you results as fast as possible. I know the quickest ways to show you what you really need to know to get around the things holding you back now, like finger dexterity, or memorizing chords, and teach you methods without bad habits that give you power to go where you want music as your tool.
I listen to where you want to go, give you the best advice about how to get yourself there, and show you the secrets and how they work, the rest all comes from you.
We can take our time or move as fast as you are ready to progress through the things necessary for you to achieve your dreams.

About David
My teaching style comes from listening to the direction a student wants to take music in their life. I learn what they really want, and I follow up by creating an individualized lesson plan that involves the desires of the apprentice musician while also including the necessary skills for growing beyond any and all limitations of understanding and interfacing with the instrument.

More important than the advanced techniques I can teach in any specific genre, I can bring foundational concepts and imperative insight when listening to any song. I can teach a student how to break down musical components and hear parts, pick out the notes, and learn everything they need to bring the music they love to life. If a student doesn’t leave inspired after each lesson, then I’m failing at my only goal.

I can relate to all the problems any student i
s having. I’ve been there before, and can help them through each challenge they face. My students will be heard, and focus will be brought to the root cause of the problem. Then we will work together to form solutions.

Through my teaching, students can see how easy it is to practice the things they want to play so that they come out sounding how they really should. It will suddenly become easy to fill the gaps in every half-right tab.

My students will find elements of the bigger picture coming together in ways that may be unexpected. If music is constantly expanding our own limitations, then there will always be more we can achieve with it. The path from listener to musician to artist becomes walk-able.

About Derek
Derek Wesley Arnold is a professional singer/songwriter/multi-instrumentalist currently living in the United States. He was born in North Carolina on February 24th, 1983. Derek began learning music at age 4 with the help of his father (Harvey Dalton Arnold: bassist for legendary Southern Rock band The Outlaws). Derek would play melodies and chords he heard on the radio or around the house and Harvey would explain to him how these related to each other. At the age of 10 Derek began playing drums, and by fourteen he was playing professionally in the nearby counties.
In high school Derek started the band Blue Dust Box with three of his classmates. This band charted for two weeks at #8 in the Australian Unsigned Artist Charts. Derek was the primary songwriter for the group. At age 19 he moved to Raleigh and quickly became one of the most sou
ght-after bassists in the region, which led to multiple tours of the United States and Canada, as well as countless hours of session work. Derek was also consistently the house bassist for five separate music venues in Raleigh over a 7 year period.
While based out of Raleigh, Derek played with John Custer (Columbia/Sony Records), Kenny Soule (Nantucket/DAG), Nick Hagelin (The Voice/Superstition TV Show, Interscope Records, Carolina Ballet), Daniel "Slick" Ballinger (B.B. King's Oh Boy! Records), world renowned blues legend John Dee Holeman (Martin Guitars/Music Maker Foundation) and many others.
Derek now lives in Winston Salem, NC. He earned his Bachelor of Music Degree in Composition and his Master of Music Degree in Composition at the conservatory University of North Carolina School of the Arts.
