I can teach all styles of blues, jazz and rock. Subject covered include rhythm and vamps. soloing, string bending, progressions, turnarounds, ending etcs.
My name is Perry and I am a professional classical, flamenco and electric guitarist performing and recording in the Dallas area. I studied with Robert Guthrie at SMU for many years, as well as Brad McLemore of "Soul Food Cafe" and professional jazz musician Chuck Pangburn at Booker T. Washington High School for the Performing and Visual Arts.
I am familiar with all styles of guitar from fingerpicking to Bebop/Swing. I teach using a foundation in classical/flamenco style and technique. I have found that for my own career as a recording artist in both the classical, acoustic and electric guitar fields that the classical/flamenco styles are the most useful for developing and training the hands to become a consummate professional.
I teach beginner to advanced students of any age. I also can provide pro and amateur electric g
uitarists an in-depth study of correct hand postures and left-hand/right-hand technique which can help to refine their overall technique and stylistic approach. I can also advise professional electric guitarists on their electronics, effects pedals, and amplifiers to achieve their own individual sound. I also teach Bass, and reading the Bass clef.
My teaching specialties include: Solfeggio, Sight Reading, Music Theory, Scales and Modes, Left and Right Hand Technique, Blues Progressions, Jazz Standards the Classical Repertoire, Flamenco styles, techniques and repertoire, DADGAD and other alternate tunings, and the works of Sor, Giuliani, and Carcassi, Brouwer, Aguado, Villa-Lobos, Sabicas, Paco de Lucia, Pat Martino, John Fahey, and Davey Graham.
I have an in-depth knowledge of the stylistic approaches and techniques of such guitarists as Eric Johnson, Jeff Beck, Joe Satriani, Randy Rhoads, Jimi Hendrix, Robert Fripp, Adrian Belew to name a few, and I can teach you the components they use to build their signature licks.
As a rule I only transcribe to give the students examples for lessons. I intend for all of my students to grow as musicians, so my lessons do not consist solely of transcribed solos and riffs.
I have a vast library of music, so I can draw from my own resources to teach you, or from a method of your choosing.
My schedule has a few openings right now. I do teach outside of my stated teaching radius, but ONLY at the 60 minute rate.
I teach people of all ages, from children to adults. I believe everyone is on an even keel, if they are willing and eager to learn.
*** Lesson Details *** Emphasis on classical posture and technique. Emphasis on sight-reading. All students learn to play basic blues and jam Technique varies depending on the particular style the student wishes to learn.
*** Travel Equipment *** I can provide a limited number of learning materials such as exercises, listening or practicing CD on occasion. However, I feel that it is the student's responsibility to provide their own guitars, and the bulk of their own learning materials and necessary electronic equipment. This can include footstools, music stands, method books, amps, cables, pedals, etc.
*** Specialties *** I've been playing guitar for 25 years, and this has given me the time to study, perform, and perfect many styles of guitar playing.
I studied classical and flamenco guitar with Robert Guthrie for 4 years before and after my studies in the SMU program. I've also played in jazz and rock ensembles since the age of 14. I studied with Chuck Pangburn, pro jazz cat, and Brad McLemore, an indie rock songwriter, early on in my studies as an adolescent.
I encourage most students to learn to play on a classical or nylon-string guitar early on in order to develop proper technique, posture, sensitivity, and sensibility. I also encourage all students to learn to sight-read at a very early point in their studies. Once, this hurdle is cleared many other challenges are easily surpassed.
Presently, I am developing a new method which incorporates solfeggio, blues and popular music forms, and improvisational playing. I also am exploring the vanguard of new guitar technology such as the Vo-96, analog effects, and various guitar synthesizers.
I try to introduce an understanding of music theory early on so that students develop a full comprehension of not only the written language of music, but also, the sonic language of music.
Great personality and knowledge of music, really makes the lessons very personalized, fun and interesting. Definitely a good choice!!

Perry takes the time to explain flamenco and related styles deeply and thoroughly. He also provides detailed micro-scale feedback on hand/arm placement, orientation, range and which muscle groups to engage. But more than the technical, he has an awesome vibe and makes learning guitar quite an enjoyable experience.
The foundation of Blues can be rooted in the 'Dominant' Arpeggio, Blues and Pentatonic Scales. I show you all of the popular licks and tricks of classic blues players with thorough explanation.
My name is Chris B. and I've been playing music for most of my life.
The best lesson that I've personally learned is that a musician is never done learning. Once you start believing that you know everything there is to know about your instrument then you've stopped growing musically. Personally, I've also learned that I enjoy sharing my knowledge of music with others and exposing students to new techniques and concepts.
I strongly believe that these traits are the most important aspects of teaching music to others. No matter how advanced my playing skills might progress, I’ll always be able to relate to any type of student because I’m still learning something new everyday!
Awesome first lesson for our 14 year old daughter! She’s pumped to continue with Chris, and we’re pleased with the entire process so far.

The learning experience with Chris is top notch, never an issue with communication or punctuality.Always able to move around his busy schedule for the "adult" student.
I want to thank Chris for allowing to find my "Soul Mustard" He is the best you can find

Almost five months have passed since I decided to take up the guitar. As, I was looking back on these five months, I realized that I could not have found a better instructor to teach me this instrument.

Three lesson in an William has exceeded my expectations.
William is a kind talented person and has not only been extremely patience but his teaching method is making sure I understand what I have to do in order to be successful at learning the guitar.
He has been extremely helpful in providing me with great options in selecting a guitar. Not only did he make great suggestions on what I should purchase but made sure the instrument was in top form by giving it the once over after I made the purchase. William's ability to provide helpful information and the his willingness to share his expertise has gone above an beyond my expectations.

Mr. G. helped me with Good Riddance today, and he helped me with the song and equipped me with what I needed to know the whole thing. He has been a great instructor.

I really enjoyed our first lesson. He was clear and had materials for me, and even thought ahead of if I had studied on my own, which I had! I would recommend him to anyone. Loads of fun with great homework to boot!

Fair priced lessons with a hint of comedy, what else could you ask for?
Music has always been a huge passion of mine. I attended the Ohio State University, playing guitar in the Jazz program.
Most of my time is spent either composing and arranging songs for my online content, or performing in venues with my band. Performance is a huge part of my life, and I think learning to perform in front of a crowd is just as essential as learning the notes themselves. It builds character and helps to provide confidence to a person in lieu of nervous, anxious thoughts.
If there's one thing I would want to see more of in this world, it would be people performing what they love. I've always felt that music can create an unspoken bond between people that can't be felt through any other medium. That's why, more than anything, I want to be able to share my love and knowledge of music with as many people as possible so t
We have mutual interest on songs and where I want to go and he has lots of patience
Which he will need with me as I master the guitar

Brody was there at my most important formative years as a guitarist. His ideas and methods took what I had learned on my own and helped me turn it into something cohesive and musical. I would highly recommend lessons from Brody.

Very patient and knowlegable dude. He was super nice and knows his stuff. Pretty hilarious too.
I can help you understand your fret by giving the basic theory needed to help learn modern songs and give exercises to improve playing. These theories can be applied to any style of music on any style of guitar or tuning. The goal is to make playing the guitar fun and something you love for years down the line.
My name is Chris and I have been playing guitar for over 20 years. Music is a love and passion and while I enjoy many instruments my first love is the guitar. My goal is to pass everything I have learned through the years on to someone else. There will be simple tricks you can do to impress people who do not play guitar to complex ideas that will make you the envy of your musical peers. With all that said I want you to have fun and just add an element to your love of guitar and music. So while there will be certain basics in theory I feel are a must to improve your play, my course will take you as simple or as complex as one would desire.
I am a graduate of the Eastman School of Music with a degree in Jazz Guitar Performance.
I am a funny, easy going guy who wants you to be inspired by your lessons. A great teacher told me "you don't know what you don't know" and I look at as my job to inspire and lead you down your interest. Whether that's playing your favorite songs you hear on the radio, shredding like your favorite rockstar, or learning how to make 'difficult' jazz changes. My great teacher also said "Music is easy," and I want to take the stigma and intimidation away from learning seemingly difficult music concepts. My goal is to make seemingly abstract concepts seem approachable and applicable to your actual playing.
In addition I offer lessons, on stage presence, voice, and music business. So if you want a one shop stop that not only teaches you all the ins and outs of music, but also can give you ideas on how to get gigs, promote your band, and build a professional network: I'm your guy!
I'm 25 and a graduate of the Eastman School of Music with a degree in Jazz Guitar performance. I currently work full-time as a freelance musician, I play in wedding/corporate bands, jazz groups, hip-hop bands, funk bands, pop bands, original music projects, and I also run a hip-hop/jazz group. I'm a funny, easy-going guy and I want lessons to be fun and inspiring. With that being said I definitely like to set and accomplish realistic goals with my students, cause why not be the best you can be, right?
My teaching style follows the "Music is Easy" mantra. Basically, I look at it as my job to take the intimidation factor out of music, and let it be what it should be, FUN! It's not to say we won't be learning theory, or getting our skills together, but it is to say that we'll be taking all the fancy lingo and breaking it dow
n for you in concrete practical ways.
In terms of what I teach that really runs the gambit, I teach most styles of contemporary guitar playing, and additionally can teach voice as well. I also have taken extensive marketing classes at the University of Rochester, which means that I can offer some key advise on music business and marketing strategies for your band. I also run my own booking agency, so if you want to talk shop on how to get gigs, which avenues of gigs make the most bread, and other things of that nature, I'm your guy as well!
Hope to hear from you and start some fun learning together!
Blake is a great instructor. He made me feel comfortable and relaxed right away. He went at the pace I needed (glacial) and encouraged me every step of the way. I would highly recommend him to anyone.
March 12, 2019
Blake is a seasoned musician with experience in just about every genre imaginable. Whether it's technique, harmony, theory or aural skills, he can explain any seemingly difficult idea in a concise, logical way. With all the knowledge of a conservatory trained guitarist and gigging musician, he's a down to earth teacher who simply loves music and is passionate about sharing it with his students.
March 11, 2019
Blake is a dedicated teacher who helped me improve right away! I wasn't at all sure what I wanted (or needed) to work on next but he picked up right away what was best for me. So grateful to have worked with him.
"Ahmad is awesome. Super knowledgeable, flexible and professional with scheduling, and a bad ass guitar player. If you're looking to take your playing to t
he next level give him a call!"
"I've been taking guitar lessons across the country since 1975, and Mark is the best instructor I've ever had. His expertise on the instrument is only surp
assed by his ability to make something complicated appear simple for the student. I've had more fun taking lessons and practicing in the past 6 months as Mark's student than I have in the previous 40 years. I highly recommend him."
"I have been taking lessons with Eric for almost three years and I would highly recommend him to anyone thinking about taking any kind of music lessons. I
initially started with blues guitar lessons because I wanted to be able to play my favorite songs or maybe impress girls. Over the years Eric got me interested in so much more.
I learned music theory, jazz standards, improvisation, fingerstyle techniques, how to play and sing at the same time, and how to write and record my own songs. He inspired me to take on piano as a second instrument, initially through him but eventually through classically trained instructor.
What started as basic guitar lessons for a potential hobby turned into my tiny apartment becoming cluttered with musical instruments and audio recording equipment. For this I only have Eric to thank."
"Very good first lesson. Marc was great and already started to answer some of my questions and fill in some of my knowledge gaps. I'm looking forward to my
"I started taking lessons with Ahmad a couple of months ago and would recommend him for anyone who wants to learn guitar"
"I came to Mich an with 8ish years of self-taught acoustic experience looking to make my first foray into electric/lead playing/improvising/soloing. After
two weeks with Mich, my playing has improved exponentially. He's extremely patient and is more like your buddy showing you cool things than a rigid instructor. If you're committed to putting in the work and really wanting to get better, Mich the guy for you."
"There's guitar teachers and then there's William! Being a classical guitar player himself, he is meticulous and precise when it comes to his instruction.
He is exceptional in teaching students how to play guitar the correct way. He formulates his lessons to be student specific, and keeps record of the students progress. With William, you will learn how to crawl before you learn how to run, and you will learn it the right way, and will be a better musician because of his instruction and dedication to his students, which is the backbone to his dedication to music."
"It is fun to learn basics with Richard. Looking forward to the next lesson."
"Adam is a patient and wonderful teacher. He writes down the lessons and is helpful by sending videos as well. He has reinforced my instrumental play by re
freshing the basics, the major and minor pentatonic scales."
