I've been playing with classical ensembles and rock bands since 2001. Even though I started on classical trombone and rock guitar, I have come to expand my repertoire to a variety of instruments and genres. During my time in college I performed with the University choir, orchestra, and band. I also have organized, wrote/arranged for, and performed with a variety of bands in my home state of New Mexico, as well as Japan, and the San Francisco Bay Area.
Since 2006 I have been an active teacher. This profession has taken me everywhere from working with classical guitar cla
sses in New Mexico high schools to Elementary students in Japan to a variety of private students of various musical instruments and genres everywhere I've been. Since relocating to the Bay Area in 2010, I've had the pleasure of working with lots of great students from kids to adults with a wide range of ambitions. Since 2012 I've been running my own full time studio.
Philosophy of Learning
Lessons are generally designed to work towards giving students the tools to accomplish their goals and become increasingly independent over time. While all students will study similar fundamentals regarding technique, theory, and performance, every lesson is as different as every person. What kind of music do you want to make? I'll tell you what you need to do to get there, and help you take the steps to achieve your aspirations. It's really important to know though that everyone makes their own experience. The process of learning music involves you learning as much about your own mind and body as it does any external concepts, so please keep in mind only you can move yourself forward.
I also love to help students put together a song, record, and produce it for them so that they can have a recording to share with their friends and family.
I also hold events for my students. (Check out our pictures and videos below!) Younger students have opportunities to perform for friends and family at my studio every few months. Adult students also occasionally have events where they get a chance to get together and play music as well.
Aside from in-studio lessons, students also have the option to sign up for online lessons via Skype. (*Online lessons offered during different times than in-studio lessons.)
*Unfortunately due to scheduling issues, I'm not currently accepting students for bi-weekly lessons. I can do regular weekly lessons, or occasional drop-in lessons, but bi-weekly appointments make it really hard for me to give the best scheduled times to my existing weekly students. I'm sorry for the inconvenience.

Jesse has given directions on how to successfully become a better musician. His approach and explanation on musical theories was much more understandable than what I was previously reading. Overall, I found the lessons to be very usefull.

I am a private music instructor with over 20 years’ performing and teaching experience. There is so much unique joy in playing a brass instrument, and it is my goal to help my students feel that joy! I tailor each lesson to each student's individual abilities and learning methods. For students in school bands, I try to provide lessons that complement what they learn in band class, focusing on areas of performance that may not receive attention in a group setting. Over my teaching career, I have worked with over 200 individual students. Many of my students are not only successful in their bands but in regional honor bands and Solo and Ensemble competitions as well. While I now only teach part time, I have years of full-time teaching experience as well. When I was full-time, I worked directly with several Nashville-area schools, including the nationally-acclaimed Oliver Middle School band. When country musician Adam Sanders sought school musicians to accompany him at CMA Fest in 2018, 75% of the brass section was enrolled in my private lesson studio! Last year, competing against hundreds of students from all over the region, my students took second-chair trumpet and trombone at MTSBOA Mid-State.

I have been teaching brass for 22 years. I have an earned Masters degree in music and enjoy teaching students of all ages. I am happily married with 5 children at home--4 of them are musicians as well (the youngest is 4).. Students will quickly learn not only the basics of music theory, but will be playing songs as early as their first lesson. I am a professional trombonist and pianist and have three degrees from the University of Michigan, including a D.M.A. in Trombone Performance. I have taught piano since I was 16 and have accompanied singers and instrumentalists in concerts. For many years, I was a trombonist in the Sarasota Orchestra and previously was Assistant Professor of Trombone at Miami University.
I have started many students on trombone and tuba, as well as piano. Students will find me to be encouraging, yet demanding. I cater to different learning styles and strive to learn how each student learns best.

Giustino C., conductor and baritone, is a musician with tenacity and passion. As an avid performer, vocal coach, and conductor he has enjoyed a musical career on multiple continents. His recent engagements include the role of Marcello in La Bohemé, and El Dancaïro in Carmen; he has appeared with Indianapolis Opera, Pensacola Opera, Florentine Opera, Opera Ouvert, and Opera Western Reserve. Mr. C. received his Master’s in performance under the tutelage of Dr. Kathleen Maurer. This Season he will be joining The Belle Ensemble as the role of Uberto in La Serva Padrona, joining the Little Traverse Civic Theatre in The Christmas Schooner, and performing the role of Arasamene in the World Premiere of Serse by Isaac Wittenberg.
As an educator, clinician, and vocal coach he has worked in Chicago, Michigan, Wisconsin, Indiana, and Florida, a
s well as toured Europe with the Blue Lake Fine Arts Camp Youth Choir. He is an active member in the National Association of Teachers of Singing(NATS), and a regular adjudicator in the Great Lakes Region.

Jerry is a wonderful instructor. I wasn’t sure how online lessons would go but they have been seamless and fun and my son is making progress with the bugle. I would highly recommend this format and this teacher. The convenience and quality of instruction are excellent. We are signing up for more lessons and may move on to another instrument once my son feels confident on the bugle.

It is Rapturous for me when a student realizes their own musicality by going past just playing the notes on the page, to actively expressing the Message (which could be a Thought, Emotion, or a Scene) that is inherent in the piece.
In a Low Brass lesson, I have the student play: -A quick and effective warm-up with me. -A quick review of their assigned technical exercises. -Their assigned Etude or Chart or Solo. -A Duet with Me.
Technical aspects of Performance: 1. A mastery of ability to Sight Sing. 2. Clean Articulation. 3. A wide (and well-sounding) Range. 4. Moving between partials is Flexible. 5. A beautiful Tone.
I wish for my students to become more than just good instrumentalists, I want for them to always have fun with music. When a student realizes that music can ultimately be Emotional and Creative Outlet for them, they will be Musicians for life!
I am a Bass Trombonist, but teach all brass instruments. I have been teaching for 20 years. I help my students build their Tone, Technique and Articulation by teaching a simple Warm-Up routine. I have written an 8-page eBook entitled "Optimal Brass Playing" that describes ten areas of best practices in Brass playing. Each of my students receives one of these. I also heavily emphasize instruction on Sight Reading. In fact, I have recently written a book on the subject that I will soon publish entitled "Page to Performance". As a Composer, I have also written Duet parts to all 65 Introductory Melodious Etudes that were fist compiled by Alan Raph. I use these Duets in lessons to help my students strengthen their Listening Awareness skills.
Mr. Scott really is a nice person to meet. For my first voice lessons, He helped me identify what range I was comfortable with and introduced a few of his works that opened my perspective on reading music. He knows how to teach his material if you specify what exactly you want to accomplish.

Scott is someone who expertly emphasizes both the fundamentals of trombone playing and musicianship. I have had the opportunity to read his melodious etudes arrangements with him and his arrangements are expertly crafted to force the performers to work on listening, phrasing, intonation and sound quality all in one fell swoop. Scott's attitude is very warm and not condescending in the slightest. He is very positive while always encouraging the player to grow. If you are a low brass player who wants a deeper understanding on the intricacies of low brass performance and overall musicianship, you should absolutely give Scott a try.
