Learn the foundations of Blues Guitar Playing through various blues traditions

About Collin

I have been playing and teaching professionally for over ten years. I love to play in all styles, from classical to jazz to rock & roll. I have been playing guitar and singing with a blues rock band for over 6 years now, and have had much experience writing songs and performing live. I have also had my classical compositions performed live by local orchestras and have had some of my music featured in commercials. Recently, I have put together an album of piano and synthesizer based instrumentals.

Lesson plans are based entirely on the student. Whether the student wishes to begin just learning the songs they enjoy, decides to delve into a long term theory based program, or even both, I can create a lesson plan catered to their personal needs.

I specialize in rock & roll and all the of the music that it is built upon. Anything from

blues to country to R&B to bluegrass is something I have a strong fascination and background with. I am also extremely well versed in college level music theory, and have helped many students prepare for their AP Music Theory tests.

Private Blues Guitar Teacher

Blues is the heart and soul of American music. Every note sings with feeling and attitude. Make your guitar become your voice through diverse string bending and vibrato techniques, open tunings, four note chord voicings, voice leading, learn to play independent harmonies using fingerstyle or hybrid picking. Study all of the great blues forms, learn to improvise as well as compose. All of my students will learn the most important skill any musician can possess- the ability to listen to other musicians in a jam session and compliment their ideas.

About Jason

Hi, I'm Jason. I've been teaching and performing as a full time career for 23 years. During that time, I've developed a diverse, flexible approach to teaching that is customized to the needs and interests of each of my students. I'll help you set up musical goals, and then use your preferred learning style to help you achieve them.

*** Lesson Details ***
My goal is to help you unlock your full musical potential by tailoring your lesson experience to your unique interests and goals. Your lessons will be a balance of technique and creativity. My studio is equipped with pro sound gear and software so we can incorporate drum sounds, keyboards, bass, and guitar into your lessons.
I encourage all of my students to read standard notation, but it isn't necessary if you would prefer to learn by ear.

*** Specialties ***

-I'm

comfortable teaching most styles, including R&B, Jazz, Blues, Gospel, Funk, Rock and Metal. I try to encourage all students to learn the basics of music theory, so you can understand the music you learn.

-I use a wide range of method books. I also use books that I have authored, which have been used in music programs in Baltimore area private schools and charter schools.

Jason tailors the course to a student's individual learning pace and needs. There is also a good combination between theory and learning cords to play a song. Technique is emphasized to build good habits and a foundation for future growth.

BEGINNERS WILL LEARN: 1. Proper left and right hand, arm, and body positioning . 2. Proper (not common!) pick grip. 3. How to play notes (reading of music suggested but can be worked around) and first position chords. 4. Rhythm focus to play to some of your favorite songs.
INTERMEDIATE TO ADVANCED STUDENTS WILL LEARN: 1.To continue proper positioning (I will remind you... bet on it !) 2. Ear training (very important) 3. Bar chords (you'll hate them initially but they speak the world of you.... you'll get 'em !) 4. Learning and utilization of scales including Minor and Major Pentatonic Scales. 5. Multi-position playing 6. Improvisation utilizing all afore-listed. 7. Incorporating my methods that utilizes a bit of other styles (just a bit) as I have taught such wonderful players I've been sought to create a "next level" Blues Guitarist such as Chris Raabe and Bill Tuthill.... look 'em up (the Chris Raabe Band) for example.

About Don

Hi,
My name is Don and have been teaching guitar for many years. Currently I teach at my home studio in Lake Katrine, N.Y. From 2015 - 2017 I taught at the New York School of Music in Walden, N.Y. From 2003 -early 2015 I was a staff instructor at Imperial Guitar and Soundworks of Newburgh, N.Y.
I teach all levels and ages for such styles as Classical/Flamenco Guitar(including ABRSM EXAM PREP.), Blues, Rock, Shred, Metal, Jazz, Country, and General Instruction for Beginners and those just wanting "to know how to play some tunes.".
I tailor instruction to my students' goals... not mine. Goal #1..we're having fun as we learn !.. this is not to be confused with Navy Seals Training !

Years ago I took Guitar Lessons at a local music store ( a very prominent one) as a raw beginner and quickly became frustrated with my lack of progress. Although my teacher was a great player and "very hot" to look at I soon began to feel like I was merely his "practice dummy."... I'd play the chords he showed me, endlessly,... while he seemed to be just practicing his solo playing. ... I then tried On-Line Lessons from various sites which were actually even less helpful and soon just lost interest completely.
A friend of mine said she had taken lessons from a Don DeBold for about 5 years before going off to college and highly recommended him.
I've now been taking lessons from Don for almost 2 years and having a blast ! I've learned how to play along with most of my favorite songs (mainly Blues and Rock) and now I'm learning to play Solo Guitar that needs no accompaniment !
Unlike my first teacher, during many lessons Don barely plays or even has his Strat on his lap because he's busy concentrating on what I'm doing !
He's a stickler yet lots of fun at the same time> I super recommend him as a Guitar and Music Teacher !!! Aneiah J.

Private Blues Guitar Teacher

I am here to demystify the music world--with my teaching methods any student can accomplish their dreams! First, we will start with simple techniques to embark on your musical journey and work our way towards our lofty musical goals together.

Learning guitar requires a lot of patience and a good attitude. I focus on fundamental exercises to help any beginner guitar player reach an intermediate level. I cater my lessons to learn tunes that my students care about and love. I let them guide the work!

About Oliver

I specialize in upright bass, jazz bass, funk bass, bass technique, and rhythm. I will inspire a positive attitude and good practice habits that will help any student succeed. I’ve extensively studied jazz, latin jazz, funk, rock music, hip hop, bluegrass, folk, and composition.

I can also teach guitar, piano, drums, and voice. As a mulit-instrumentalist, jamming with my students is a priority. Being able to play with other musicians is one of the best feelings you’ll ever experience. I’m happy to take you there!

Recently, I helped one of my bass players get a scholarship to go to Berklee Summer Camp to study music.

I am very excited to continue my teaching on TakeLessons. I look forward to helping new students to become the musician of their dreams.

I've been playing professionally in Chicago for five years where I play up

right for a classical chamber pop group called the Nine Worlds Ensemble and for a jazz group with Frank Catalano, a popular Chicago sax-man. I co-managed, played upright bass, and sang for an ambient-folk band, Sedgewick, based in Chicago. I've played upright bass in the Frank Catalano and Jimmy Chamberlin (drummer for Smashing Pumpkins) super group and Bowmanville.

I am currently dreaming up my own jazz-inspired project called the ohm trio. Working on my debut record under my solo name ohm. Be on the look out!

My name is Gaelan Bellamy, and I've been teaching guitar professionally for over 10 years. I have a degree in classical guitar and music theory from the University of Texas in Austin, and I've been performing nationally since 2007.
My passion for teaching is rooted in a deep curiosity for the physical mechanics of guitar technique. This curiosity has led me down the rabbit hole of practically every technique imaginable, and I pride myself in being able to explain and demonstrate these techniques in a concise, fun, and creative manner.

Having a variety of experiences professionally and academically, I am very well suited to cater to the interests of my students. I am currently getting my Master's degree in classical guitar performance, but I often include a variety of styles in order to motivate your practice times at home. Whether you want really nail the sound of a Black Sabbath riff, learn to solo over a blues progression, or even learn a piano piece on guitar. I can help give you the tools to form your own musical identity.

About Seth

In my lessons, I make sure that I do my best to serve your interests. No matter what style of music you are passionate about, I want to help you develop that passion into musical ability. This is done through practice, analysis, reading, and listening. Even if you want to focus on metal or popular music, I will make sheet music arrangements of the music you already know and love, to better teach you how to read and interpret written music. Also, playing with recordings will often be a part of lessons to help prepare students for playing with other musicians. This holistic approach to teaching will ensure you are the best musician you can be, and not just another guitarist.

"I was very impressed, satisfied and happy about my guitar lessons with Greg.
I'm German and booked just 5 lessons due to travel reasons. There was very v
age input from me to Greg when we started (I always play the same; want to get new ideas; ...). Greg did not just provide a regular standard lesson. He focused and addressed 100%+ my desires and needs. Greg provided me very conrete and great input in several aspects to what I can do to improve my guitar playing. This was very useful to me and enabled me to move my guitar play forward. I highly recommend Greg to anybody."

"To be honest, I wouldn't know exactly where to begin to write this review so I am going to just speak from the heart - and a little bit of experience. I
started with Christian about a month ago. I held off leaving a review because a good teacher of anything shows they are good by also showing how they build off what what they are teaching and how the student reacts to what he/she is being taught.

I can honestly say that Christian has exceeded my expectations, but it might be for the non-musical aspect that he has. As far as ability goes, just watch his videos and you will see he knows much more than necessary to teach anyone else how to play. However, what makes Christian so great at teaching is that he doesn't translate that ability into unreasonable expectations for his students. He realizes the personal nature of music and will help the student achieve their own personal goals and even more, if the student wishes to do so and puts in the practice and effort of learning.

He has been very good at building on what he has previously taught. Christian has also given much attention to where I seem to connect with music, which is personal only to me. I don't connect to music the same as he does. He knows that and makes an effort to see music from the way I am seeing it, at least he does that during our time in the studio together. This helps each student be the best that THEY can be. This is what a good teacher does. A great teacher also, with time, slowly makes himself obsolete. He teaches the student to figure out how to teach themselves. Christian does this as well. It is not his intention to lose students. But he absolutely wants me to see WHY I am doing what I am doing so I can apply that theory to other aspects of the guitar ON MY OWN.

So, I am not saying he is the best teacher out there. "Best" is a funny word anyway. What I am saying is: Christian will help you be as good as you can possibly be within the realm that you want to be in, as long as you want to actually learn the instrument fully by putting in the work -- work is always necessary.

So I should also mention that I am a song writer and a piano player, and have been for over 20 years. That is why I can say I am speaking from experience. I have had instructors before. I know what it is like and I know what to look for. You can't go wrong with Christian, if you are really looking to learn how to play the guitar and get the most out of your dedication to the instrument."

"I just relocated to the Henderson area. I have been banging out cowboy chords on a guitar for years, but recently got my first electric and a burning desi
re to learn some lead, blues, CW riffs and better technique, knowledge and command of the fret board. After interviewing and meeting with 4 other teachers, I am happy to report I chose Jeff. Jeff knows his stuff, is prepared, is respectful of my time and efforts, is knowledgeable about music, music theory, guitar technique and can effectively transfer his knowledge to a student in the way that particular student learns. All while having fun! Prior to my first lesson Jeff asked me for examples of what I'd like to learn. At my first lesson he had a notebook prepared with fundamental technique for me to practice, music tabbed out that I had mentioned, and a lot of good material for me to practice. I was playing some cool stuff immediately. My wife was surprised not to hear the usual from me when I got home. Jeff is knowledgeable in all forms of guitar - classical to heavy mental. I chose Jeff for his skill and knowledge, his approach to teaching and for what seemed would be a fun learning experience. I chose well and I can comfortably commend Jeff Colvin to anyone wishing to learn and improve on the guitar."

"I've been taking guitar lessons with Kimberly since the beginning of 2011. At the time I'd had several years of lessons using a traditional method on acou
stic guitar and was looking for a teacher who could help me focus on electric blues rock and move me beyond my intermediate skill level.

Kimberly has a real focus on and talent for teaching. My lessons are tailored to meet my interests. A large part of the lesson is devoted to learning her method for blues soloing--at least 5 approaches to improvisation and comping. After several years, I've come to see how these approaches interweave, complement each other and have become an intuitive part of my musical vocabulary.

Also, because I expressed an interest, part of the lesson involves sight reading, learning blues and jazz theory, developing rhythmic playing sense, and learning a few favorite solos. Kimberly has an amazing ability to tab out and teach any song you give her. Which leads to the best part--after 6 months I was invited to play with one of her ensemble classes. While I was absolutely petrified with fear at the beginning, this has turned into one of the highlights of my week every week. It is just downright fun! It's a safe and forgiving environment where you can make mistakes and learn, or try things out that might flop, or turn into something cool. Every teacher and guitar magazine article all point to the need to play with other musicians to develop your skills and this is where Kimberly Allison really delivers. I feel that I could now sit in with other musicians and contribute.

I give my highest recommendation for taking lessons with Kimberly."

Tricks For Differentiating The Two Blues Chord Progressions

By Suzy S.

Ready to get started with learning blues chord progressions? Here's an intro by Austin, TX guitar teacher Samuel B...   In order to properly respect and understand both the theory and structure of ANY kind of American music, it's essential to be able to play the blues. Although the form is said (by some scholars) to have originated in Africa within the story-telling traditions of village griots (historians/poets/musicians who would play a five-stringed instrument known as the halam, which …
