I specialize in helping students learn practice and listening techniques that will allow you to make faster more efficient progress as well as increase your understanding of music and how you best learn to play. I teach many fiddle styles including Irish, Gypsy Jazz Old Time and Bluegrass. I specialize in Irish fiddle, which I have been playing and teaching for 25 years. I have studied in Ireland with numerous masters of the Irish fiddle such as Kevin Burke, Tommy Peoples , Martin Hayes, Matt Cranitch, Oisin Mac Diarmada and many others. I am founding member of the band Beyond The Pale and have taught at numerous camps and festivals including The O’Flaherty Irish Music Retreat.
I also specialize in “Gypsy Jazz” or “ Hot Club of Paris” style jazz fiddle in the style of Stephane Grapelli and played for many years in the very popular Dallas based band The Texas Gypsies.

About Gordon

I love music and have been playing music since I was a small child. And I love helping to spread the joy of music by teaching. I have been teaching fiddle for over 20 years. I specialize in teaching fiddle and especially Irish fiddle, but I also teach many other fiddle styles including Gypsy Jazz ,

I was fortunate enough to attend many years of the O'Flaherty's Irish Music Retreats, and also fortunate to have been able to take under Gordon a couple of those years. He made learning fun, emphasized learning by ear and developing muscle memory, and is also a kind hearted, warm person whom will leave more of an impression than just some knowledge. I would definitely recommend Gordon for those seeking to begin their musical journeys!

"Mom, I don't want to study violin anymore" my young son said.-Oh no!- I was SO sad but I couldn't force him to play an instrument. And then, Hallelujah! we found Gordon. My boy began to take fiddle lessons with this amazing musician. And thus his very own love for the fiddle was born! He still plays. He is now 28. I can't thank you enough Gordon, for your life long musical influence on my son.
Betsy
I have played in a band with Gordon for 19 years and he is an amazing musician, composer, arranger, engineer, and producer. Additionally, I benefitted from his teachings and I have observed his fiddle teaching sessions with other students. Gordon is great with children and adults and any student will become a better musician because of Gordon’s teachings. I know I have.

What's the difference between a violin and a fiddle?
According to the age old joke, "a fiddle is fun to listen to!"

While there's really no difference in instrument, only in style, and with no disrespect meant to Classical violin, my other passion, if you're looking to loosen up and have fun playing along with others by ear, then fiddle may be for you!

Though my specialty is Celtic music, particularly Irish, I can help you learn the basics of any style of fiddle music that catches your interest, including Old time/ American, Bluegrass, Scottish, and more! Lessons are focused on learning songs by ear and building a solid foundation in basic instrument skills that will allow you to play with ease and style with a focus on what -you- want to learn!

About Cieran

I love music, and I love helping other people find and develop their love for music! I teach all styles of violin and piano to ages 4 and up, with a strong emphasis on finding what kind of music each student enjoys and building a life-long love of music with solid technical foundations. I hold a

I've played guitar since I was only eight years old (over 20 years!) in many different bands, styles, and genres. I played in a traditional Irish ensemble when I was in college and have since picked up banjo, mandolin, fiddle, harmonica, and bodhran (Irish hand drum). I've also helped teach group violin classes in music programs in Orlando, FL and NYC. I love playing and teaching bluegrass music, it's a special challenge both for me and the students!

About Gio

I studied music at UCF (Orlando), focusing on classical and jazz guitar, but I also have years of experience playing rock, blues, folk, hip-hop, and musical theater on both guitar and drums. I have been teaching guitar, drums, and piano for about eight years to students of all ages. Music is wha

Though "fiddle" and "violin" are the same instrument, the difference in title refer to two different styles of playing. Fiddle music focuses on country, bluegrass and Irish or Celtic music.

Beginners typically take 60 minute classes once per week at a recurring time. Young children typically take half hour classes and older children, adult musicians and those on a budget typically take 45 minute classes. The most common lesson length to start with is 60 minutes, as the teacher will need to tune your instrument and help you get set up. Some students choose to take lessons twice per week when a concert is coming up, to catch up from a vacation or if they just want to make faster progress.

In class, you will learn new techniques, receive guidance on how to achieve the best sound possible and learn songs that you like and that interest you. You are expected to take this guidance and practice it thoroughly at home until you feel comfortable with it, so that when you are in class ...

Antoinette is, by far, the best music instructor that I have ever hired. Music has always been a part of my life. As a child, I took piano lessons for years and continued on and off through college. As a complete novice to the violin, I was nervous to begin such a challenging instrument as an adult hobby. Antoinette is encouraging, intelligent and incredibly skilled. Her calm demeanor and patience is vital to one's success. She focuses on the building blocks to a successful technique with ease. I am incredibly grateful to Antoinette for reminding me of how enjoyable music can be. I look forward to our weekly sessions around my busy work schedule. Her location is conveniently located within walking distance from the subway in NYC.

I took violin lessons for a year with an instructor I found through a different organization (not TakeLessons)--and I learned more in one hour with Antoinette than I learned in 30 lessons with that other teacher. In just one lesson, I can see that Antoinette is friendly, smart, encouraging, knows her stuff--and knows how to teach (which not every good player can do). I'm an adult, but I bet she'd be just as great with a student of any age.

I thought it would be a very hard exercise to practice but with Concetta's advices, I constantly and rapidly improve my technique. Five stars is the minimum I can give !

What's the Difference Between the Violin and Fiddle?

Is that a fiddle... or a violin? It's a common question, and one that baffles many beginner musicians. So what's the answer? When it comes to the actual instrument, there actually aren't any differences. What distinguishes a violin from a fiddle is what kind of music you're playing with it. A musician playing folk, bluegrass or country, for example, would most likely refer to their instrument as a fiddle; those who play other genres (jazz, classical, etc.) typically call theirs a violin. …
