Exceptional first lesson. William was very cordial yet methodical and helped me understand the purpose of establishing a strong foundation in the scale and notes changes which I believe will set me up for success. He was very patient and helped me relax and understand everything. Well worth the time and I highly recommend him.

I have only been working with William for about a month now, and he makes learning bagpipes fun and enjoyable. As an instructor, he makes me feel comfortable and seems to have an amazing amount of patience for helping me progress with my ability to understand the instrument from both a musical and technical perspective. He is very responsive to my inquiries and even though the instruction is online, I feel like he is in my living room. I look forward to continued lessons with him as he helps me get better at learning how to play this instrument.

I am a Retired Federal Special Agent and I was born in Glasgow, Scotland. I've always wanted to learn how to play the Highland Bagpipes. I met William a few years ago and he has made my dream come true. William is a caring and patient instructor. He will teach you all details and techniques of playing the instrument and how to play the tunes correctly. William will take a complicated piece of music and will show you an easy path to successful completion of of playing the tune. I have seen William teach all ages and genders and special needs students and all have been successful musicians. William has transformed this hard headed student from a person that could not read music to a performing as a band member with the Tucson Highlanders Pipe band. I STRONGLY recommend William as a Bagpipe Instructor.

William as been giving me lessons on the bagpipes since January of 2013, and I have enjoyed every minute of it. William's guidance, style, and skill have taken me from my first lesson on the practice chanter to my first public performances.

William has a easy-going, comfortable and capable style of teaching. He is comfortable adapting to each student's wants and needs rather than forcing each student to follow the same lessons and learning path. He has taught the bagpipes to students from all walks of life and ages.

I've been very happy with his training. I'm looking forward to continuing my training with him, and would recommend him to beginners and experienced musicians alike.

William is an amazing teacher. Not only has he taught me to play the bagpipes but has also managed to form a greater appreciation for music in general. The little tidbits of information he throws into a lesson really stick with my mind and thus I feel I have learned a great deal more than just one instrument. He has clearly been teaching for a long time, you can tell by his patience and his resourcefulness of teaching techniques depending on the student. While he will show you proper technique he also throws in an analogy that manages to make a complicated piece of music understandable. I strongly recommend lessons from William if you want to learn the instrument and the music of bagpiping.

After letting my pipes lie unused for nearly fifty years I sought an opportunity to take them up again. I must remark that I was not a highly accomplished piper when I quit earlier. In so doing I consulted the long time owner of a local music store specializing in folk music and instruments and was given William’s name and the recommendation that he was clearly the best local performer/teacher know to him. That was approximately four years ago. I found William to be highly attuned to his student’s needs, strengths, and weaknesses. He is able to direct his teaching to those attributes and make the most effective use of lesson time. I find training with William to be a pleasurable experience and a valuable learning opportunity. In the time I have been taking lessons I have progressed to the point of performing regularly with the Tucson Highlanders and have felt competent enough to register with the Western United States Pipe Band Association as a Grade 4 solo performer. It has also been a great pleasure to watch the progress of some of his other students from being a beginner to performing with the band. Because I had previous experience in instrumental music, I would also comment that my lessons have extended beyond simply fingering the instrument into music theory, history, composition, and elements of arrangement. Every lesson has been a positive and satisfying experience.
