My name is Ray, I'm 31 years old, and was born in Queens, NY. I studied classical music for many years as a youngster at the Aaron Copeland School of Music college preparatory program. During this program I was introduced to Jazz, and around the same time began experimenting with synthesizers. I went on to study Electronic Production & Design at Berklee College of Music in Boston, and quickly became a very sought after studio musician and performer.
I've been successfully teaching many instruments and proficiency levels for approximately 16 years now, and can say with pride that teaching is my passion, and I anticipate it remaining a very important part of my life.

That said, I'm also a big fan of pop music (as well as other genres), and encourage students to enjoy, for example, learning their favorite songs from the radio.
My understanding of music theory is extremely thorough, and I'm happy to incorporate as much or as little of it as the student's interest dictates, nevertheless maintaining the minimal amount of theory necessary to get the most out of learning music and the instrument.

My son and daughter both take from Ray and they love him!!! My daughter started with him after she had had 2 other teachers and she improved immediately. She loves going to Ray because he teaches her to play the songs that she likes. Now she plays so many songs for memory!! My son loves going to piano and is always excited to see Ray.
Fiddle is the best instrument! (Ok maybe I'm biased!) I enjoy helping all levels and ages to learn awesome tunes while using great technique!
Laura has taught throughout her musical career and loves nothing better than to introduce students of all ages to the magic of creating their own music! *** I provide sheet music for new tunes, stickers, and I keep on hand a basic fix-it kit for common instrument issues. I also try to keep backup books and a shoulder rest around at my studios so if someone forgets their equipment we can still make good use of the lesson.
I expect the student to provide their instrument, shoulder rest, binder and sheet protectors for loose pages, blank notebook, and any supplementary books we may need. I don't require lots of books - just ones you'll use!

Laura has been a great teacher for my 6 year-old daughter (starting taking lessons when she was 5). She is endlessly patient and has a perfect balance of fun and instruction in all her lessons. She helped us every step of the way--picking out the right rental instrument, finding extra workbooks that would be fun, coming up with ways to make practicing at home enticing. Laura is made to be a fiddle teacher--she has a obvious passion both for the music and sharing it with her students. My daughter left every lesson with Laura beaming with pride. I work with students exclusively by ear, concentrating on development of rhythm and the syncopation of melody against rhythm.
Cindy has been making music for as long as she can remember. She was the assistant director of a synagogue children's choir by age 14 and has directed and sung with many community choirs and pickup groups since then. But it wasn't until 1996 that she discovered the autoharp and began teaching and performing in earnest. Now one of the best recognized autoharp workshop leaders in the US, she has taught and performed at festivals and private concerts from Pennsylvania to California, as well as Tasmania, Australia, England, Scotland, aboard cruise ships, and in Sweden. She also shares her knowledge of old-time West Virginia fiddle techniques and repertoire, and is known locally as a sympathetic and effective voice teacher for those who think they cannot sing. Threshold Choir, a group of women who sing at the bedsides of people who are very ill or dying. She is also the leader of GrayScale, a non-traditional band that plays for square dances and contradances.
Lessons with Cindy are self-directed with coaching intended to help the student accomplish his or her personal objectives. She will ask you to provide examples of music that you love so much that you'd be willing to work hard to learn to play it, and you will find yourself working on that music right from the start. Technique is taught in the context of the music: if you need a technique for a particular song, you will learn that technique. And of course once you've mastered a technique it's yours to use on the next song or tune and the next. It's a constant process of enjoying the music and discovering and mastering the technique needed to recreate it in your own playing or singing.

I recently approached Cindy for vocal coaching on songs that I perform on a regular basis with my duet. I am extremely pleased with her instruction. She was to the point, very clear and concise with her guidance. I know she improved my performance (I had a concert the very next day!). She gave me so much to think about. I really trust her approach with me. She made me feel very much at ease, which resulted in rapid-fire student/teacher give and take vocal direction. This is the way I like to learn! I loved my time with her and will certainly have another session with her soon!
I have taught music for 10 years and believe students should get to play what they want to play! Students are asked to come up with a list of songs and/or artists they would love to play. Through teaching chords, note reading and theory, the song possibilities are endless! I also can help the aspiring singer/mandolin player to be able to both play and sing simultaneously.

The violin sings, but the fiddle dances. Or so the old saying goes! In teaching fiddle, I love to bring essential violin technique together with the various styles of diverse music. In the first few lessons we'll explore the style of fiddle you'd like to play and create a path towards that sound. At 5 years old I was struck by the incredible beauty of Vivaldi's music, and ever since I've been playing violin. I hold a BA from Oberlin College of Arts and Sciences, won a scholarship to the Baroque Performance Institute in 2005 and attended the BPI again in 2006. Apart from teaching, as a professional musician performing in Southern California I am well versed both in classical violin and various fiddle styles ranging from bluegrass, Celtic and old-time to rock, pop and blues. I also play viola and mandolin and write music.

Elias is great! My daughter is 7 and this was her first exposure to violin lessons. She loves Elias, says how patient and nice he is, and can’t wait for her next lesson each week. I highly recommend him!
I am a multi-talented string player specializing in jazz, celtic (irish) and traditional fiddle styles.
Daniel teaches and performs classical, jazz, gypsy swing, traditional irish music, old time fiddle, bluegrass and country, blues, and rock and roll. Instruments included but not limited to: cello, violin, guitar, mandolin, ukulele and bass.
Daniel graduated in 2007 with a cello performance degree from the Longy School of Music after attending the Berklee School in Boston. His 10 years of teaching experience are enriched by his ability to approach and perform a wide variety of musical styles on numerous instruments. He performs regularly with the San Diego hot band Gypsy Groove, and can also be seen at wineries and the occasional contradance. His private studio has included all abilities and ages from 4-93, and he continues to teach from his home in Encinitas, CA.
His teachers include Terry King and Eugene Friesen. Daniel has toured
nationally and performed with musical pioneers such as Darol Anger. His multi-talented background gives him a unique insight into teaching all stringed instruments.
Daniel is so patient and easy to work with ~ he makes learning the cello seem so easy and natural and has so many practical ways of explaining an instrument I have no prior knowledge of. I had never played a stringed instrument but always loved the cello, so I was a bit nervous to begin. His gentle nature and patience have made me even more enthusiastic to learn. Is that a fiddle... or a violin? It's a common question, and one that baffles many beginner musicians.
So what's the answer?
When it comes to the actual instrument, there actually aren't any differences. What distinguishes a violin from a fiddle is what kind of music you're playing with it. A musician playing folk, bluegrass or country, for example, would most likely refer to their instrument as a fiddle; those who play other genres (jazz, classical, etc.) typically call theirs a violin.
