SINGING IS BREATHING OUT

I am a teacher of singing, rather than "voice," because singing is an expression of behavior which involves imagination, intention, and musical artistry.

A fundamental principal is to sing with released flow of breath, without interfering, holding back the breath or darkening the voice. One does not “make” voice; one lets it happen. Students are guided to release compensatory tensions in the vocal tract and the body, to perceive subtler physical sensations associated with singing, along with increased ease and spontaneity, the feeling that one’s singing is personal.

My teaching is grounded in the Szamosi "Libero Canto" approach, and informed by principals of classical bel canto and modern voice science. This approach yields insights useful in other styles of singing as well as classical.

My studio comprises students of differing ages and proficiencies, from beginner to artist level. My years of teaching at the LaGuardia HS of Performing Arts (the ...

I have been working with Peter for a little over six months. He is patient, encouraging, and extremely knowledge about the mechanics of proper singing. Peter is extremely personable and communicates with his students very well. He has helped me improve my vocal articulation and never ceases to challenge me with new exercises that continue to make me a better singer. I have learned a lot from him, and am grateful to have him as a teacher.

Rebecca is not only professional and patient but she is an expert at identifying the best vocal exercises to address your specific weaknesses. She would make a perfect teacher for beginners, experienced singers and anyone in between. I've been a student for about 10 lessons and have noticed a big difference!

Hello
You are looking for a voice teacher and Steven B is a great voice teacher! For over 25 years, Steven B is one of the best voice teachers out there. He teaches all levels through professional levels. He teaches most ages. Complete beginners are welcome. He teaches in students’ homes across the United States as easily as in the Coronado Music Studio. Mr. Steven Bruce intersects methodologies of Bel Canto, Alexander's technique, and the secrets of singing. By the way, Alexander’s technique can bring back to health a damaged speaking voice, as well as keeping the singer’s voice sound and pain free. Broken down, singing involves three areas: mind, technique, and performance. There are many fun technical concepts in singing… from vowel shapes, to understanding consonants, to landing gently on high notes. Great technique leads to great expression. Voice teacher Steven Bruce is skilled in educating a student for an audition or performance. The chief purpose of singing is to bring ...

I've always had this mentality that everyone can sing and it is my goal as your potential teacher to get you to learn how to enjoy it! I like to teach from a classical standpoint and want to make sure you know what the theory is all about, how to breathe properly and how to align your body.

I'm currently a master's student in Voice at Mannes and have had two years of private teaching experience and another two as a teaching assistant for a collegiate voice class and choir. On the performance side, I've been a church musician for over 20 years, I've made solo debuts with the Oakland Civic Orchestra and Mill Valley Philharmonic, have performed and covered numerous operas and even won an Encouragement Award from the Metropolitan Opera.

No matter what singing level you're at currently, by the end of our lessons and your continued practice I hope you'll learn the techniques to truly sing out whether it be for pop, jazz, broadway, or opera. Let's work together!

About Danika

Award-winning, Filipino-American spinto soprano Danika has performed mainstage roles including Laetitia in Menotti’s Old Maid and the Thief and Countess Violante in Mozart’s La Finta Giardiniera. I look at the pursuit of musicianship as a holistic process. In the first lesson, we establish your goals to help me be a more efficient teacher for you. I find it deeply fulfilling to research new techniques that will benefit my students and teach from material that is grounded in voice science and pedagogy. A typical lesson will involve reinforcement of healthy technique, music theory study, refining repertoire, and creative exploration such as improvisation or songwriting. I urge all of my students to use mindfulness to deepen their joy of music and actively advocate that the study of music can lead to a more conscientious and emotionally intelligent society.
