We feel that we totally lucked out with finding Jason who is a complete gem! He showed up on time and quickly inspired my son with the drawing lessons by having him draw Superheroes! So my son is having a great time with Jason who has a great way of giving feedback and steering Cody using a balance of instructions and positive feedback. Cody is definitely enjoying his lessons and I am seeing real progress. I feel like I did the right thing investing in these lessons and giving Cody a great summer with a wonderful instructor. I couldn't have asked for more. Thank you Jason for being so great at what you do!
Learn the foundations of Blues Guitar Playing through various blues traditions
I have been playing and teaching professionally for over ten years. I love to play in all styles, from classical to jazz to rock & roll. I have been playing guitar and singing with a blues rock band for over 6 years now, and have had much experience writing songs and performing live. I have also had my classical compositions performed live by local orchestras and have had some of my music featured in commercials. Recently, I have put together an album of piano and synthesizer based instrumentals.
Lesson plans are based entirely on the student. Whether the student wishes to begin just learning the songs they enjoy, decides to delve into a long term theory based program, or even both, I can create a lesson plan catered to their personal needs.
I specialize in rock & roll and all the of the music that it is built upon. Anything from
blues to country to R&B to bluegrass is something I have a strong fascination and background with. I am also extremely well versed in college level music theory, and have helped many students prepare for their AP Music Theory tests.
After the first lesson you will be making music, playing songs and you will be on your way to achieving your musical goals playing blues guitar. Whether you like specific types of blues like Texas blues or Chicago blues or you enjoy specific players like Albert Collins or Hubert Sumlin, playing blues guitar requires a knowledge of chords, melody, blues licks, picking technique as well as knowing songs all of which we will begin to learn in your first lesson.
With 10+ years as a music teacher and professional musician I have picked up many approaches that will insure you are making the most progress and truly finding your musical voice.
As a teacher, I have worked with of many ages and backgrounds. One of my students, Skylar Stecker, has gone on to become a successful major label recording artist recently becoming the youngest artist to receive a number 1 on the dance billboard charts. I recently had the opportunity to tour with her as her guitarist and pianist.
I have studied, performed and taught music for over 10 years. I hold a B.A. in music from USC. My professional experience as a musician and teacher has led me to many areas of the music business. I've worked as an apprentice to several established film composers and arrangers and have had the opportunity work with Lionel Hampton New York Big Band, Metropole Orchestra, Clayton-Hamilton Jazz Orchestra, Clayton Brothers, Rachelle Farrell, Michael Buble, and Charles Aznavour. I play guitar, mandolin, piano,
bass, ukulele, banjo as well as write music.
*** Lesson Details *** I am extremely patient and firmly believe that anybody can learn to play music.
I try to keep my teaching philosophy simple. We figure out your musical goals and aspirations and carve out a path to achieving them. Along the way I will try to illuminate how the path to attaining your goals and aspirations is best taken at an enjoyable, relaxed pace and with a strong work ethic.
I always prepare for your lessons based on your interests, integrating relevant books and videos, creating handouts tailored to what we are studying in order to maintain clarity.

I'm a performer/instructor residing in Los Angeles,CA. I grew up in Cleveland, Ohio where I founded the band Synasis with my brother. We played several local shows, as well as opening for national touring artists. While living in Ohio I also attended The Recording Workshop, where I studied audio engineering in both analog and digital applications. Before leaving for LA, I studied music theory and liberal arts at Lakeland Community College. I also studied voice, piano, and guitar at the nearby Fine Arts Association. Since moving to LA, I've completed an AA in Music Performance at The Musicians Institute in Hollywood, as well as performing with a diverse mix of bands around the city. I currently teach at Opus Music School and New World Montessori School.
It’s my passion to see people learn to play the guitar. I spent 3 years being trained in classical, blues, rock and jazz. I’ve been teaching people how to play music for almost 10 years. I have expertise in learning how to play with a band and I perform on a weekly basis. I am gifted in identifying your strengths and goals, then developing you into the musician that you want to be. From people who want to be on a big stage to those who just want to have a fun hobby, I can get you where you want to go!
I’m a lead vocalist and guitarist for my worship team at my church. I have been playing guitar for 15+ years and have been teaching others for almost 10 years.
I spend the bulk of our first lesson trying to figure out what your goals are. Some people are aiming for the big stage, while others just want to learn a few songs that will impress their friends and loved ones. For any goal you have I can equip you to get there.
I have a few key values and commitments I make as a guitar teacher that have proven successful: 1. Cultivate an environment that is encouraging for the student. 2. Highlight areas of strength and build from there. 3. Give productive critique, feedback, and advice on how to improve. 4. Agree on a practice schedule in our first lesson that will help the student meet their goals and set them up for success.
5. Remain available during the week to answer questions and provide guidance in between lessons. 6. Receptive to ways that I can better teach you and help you meet your goals. 7. Have fun playing the BEST instrument in the entire world!
So what are you waiting for? Sign up for a lesson today and let’s get you ready for the big stage, or mom’s living room! I’m excited to go on this adventure with you!
My name is Tim and I am a seasoned performer and teacher living in the Avondale neighborhood of Chicago. Come to my home and let's get learning!
I have performed in all of the big jazz clubs in Chicago (and all of the small ones too ;) and have been teaching guitar for 20 years. I have a Master's Degree in Guitar Performance from the Cincinnati Conservatory of Music, and an undergrad degree in guitar too.
I have serious 'chops' but also love teaching kids and have two of my own! I love teaching beginners but also we could learn about Coltrane changes, or what Freddie Hubbard's favorite ii-v-I phrase!
Let's have a fun time and do what you'd like to do, and learn what you'd like to learn. I can help you!
My name is Tim and I am a professional guitarist based out of the Avondale neighborhood of Chicago. I have an undergraduate degree in guitar performance, and a Master's Degree from The Cincinnati Conservatory of Music in Jazz Guitar Performance.
BUT - I do not only teach jazz! I love all styles of music and started out playing bluegrass and fingerstyle guitar, which I still deeply enjoy.
In our lessons, we will work towards your own personal goals, while I keep an eye on your technique. I make sure you learn things the right way ~the first time~ so you don't have to re-learn things you feel like you already know. This is one of the hazards of learning the guitar from the internet that a great teacher (like me!) will help you with. I want to save you time, frustration, and hard work! Let's do it right the first time!
y, I work very often around town. I play places in Chicago like the California Clipper, the Green Mill, the Whistler, Cafe Mustache and the Green Mill. I work mostly in Jazz contexts but also do whatever I get called to do! I want to help you meet your performance goals (because I have met mine), or get you started from the beginning.
LASTLY - while I love jazz, I also love pop music and can teach any and all styles. No matter what you'd like to play, good technique and learning it the right way the first time is essential! Let's get started!
"Ahmad has opened up the world of music to me. Before I started taking lessons with Ahmad, music was simply something I enjoyed listening to, but was a bi
t of an abstraction. I had always wanted to learn an instrument, specifically the guitar, but had suffered an injury to my finger when I was a teenager and thought there was little point in trying with a significant handicap. Now at middle age I decided to try anyway.
For two years I've been taking lessons with Ahmad every week or two and have found a lifelong hobby. Ahmad has been patient and understanding to my level of ability and has guided me to not only improve dramatically my level of playing, but also has taught me the basic fundamentals of music which makes me appreciate listening to and playing music more than I ever had. Ahmad is a gifted teacher who can quickly uncover and fix fundamental problems with technique and builds lesson plans to teach one how to play the guitar as a musical instrument.
I am so happy I found Ahmad. He has given me a lifelong passion to improve my playing and a deeper understanding of the music I've loved my entire life. If you've ever thought about learning the guitar, do yourself a favor and see Ahmad now."
"I started taking lessons with Ahmad a couple of months ago and would recommend him for anyone who wants to learn guitar"
"John is teaching me guitar music theory. I like his relaxed and VERY patient style."
"I'm about to have my forth lesson with John and I must say he is an amazing musician and an amazing guitar teacher. In the last four weeks, John and I hav
e been working on blues guitar licks. I've been playing at the same level for years. John has changed that for me immediately after our first lesson. He has made a huge difference in my playing and my approach to the guitar.
After I finish writing this review, I will be signing up for additional lessons.
"I have taken my first few lessons with Ryan and so far they have all been awesome!! Ryan is an extremely knowledgeable and talented guitarist, but he meet
s you right where you are. I feel my confidence growing more and more with every lesson. I look forward to many more!!"
"Very knowledgable so far after one lesson"
"Adam is a patient and wonderful teacher. He writes down the lessons and is helpful by sending videos as well. He has reinforced my instrumental play by re
freshing the basics, the major and minor pentatonic scales."
"Great Vocabulary and phrasing! just what I was looking for :)"
"I've been taking guitar lessons across the country since 1975, and Mark is the best instructor I've ever had. His expertise on the instrument is only surp
assed by his ability to make something complicated appear simple for the student. I've had more fun taking lessons and practicing in the past 6 months as Mark's student than I have in the previous 40 years. I highly recommend him."

What is a shuffle, anyway? A shuffle is a rhythm of 8th notes played in triplets, essentially playing 3/4 time over a 4/4 beat to make the music swing.
Blues, pop, jazz, and rock musicians all use the shuffle. The blues shuffle is a fun pattern that is simple to absorb into your playing across many genres of music. Think of pop, rock, big band, and blues as being a part of the s …
