I teach many areas of Bluegrass guitar: basic to advanced rhythm styles, lead guitar, fingerpicking, improvisation. I also teach how to read music and play by ear.

I have a very practical approach to teaching guitar! I was taught how to play by ear first, at 2 years old and later studied music theory to connect the dots. I love to find patterns and predictability in music to make it easy to navigate through. If you feel like you wouldnt succeed in a traditional music lesson setting, join me for discovery, epiphanies and “Aha!” moments! I specialize in Worship Music and Worship band dynamics and theories however I strive to teach students exactly what they want to learn to encourage the idea that we tend to want to practice things we like or we’re good at! I started playing acoustic guitar when I was seven years old. I have been playing and teaching mostly bluegrass, old time, Irish, blues, and swing jazz styles for many years. I have taught both privately and have also done various workshops at festivals. I have taught guitar multiple years for instance at the Gettysburg Bluegrass Festival in PA.
My students learn to have fun with music. Students can work on rhythms, melodies, improvisation, song writing, getting into and/or hanging on in a jam session, etc.

I have had the great opportunity to teach all levels for over 15 years in the United Kingdom, South Africa and the USA. I have held positions as guitar teacher at many Colleges, Universities and Companies around the UK and USA. I have worked in the distant learning department at the Manhattan School of Music, teaching students around the country from their studio base. With many of my students going onto music schools such as The New School, NYC, Queens College, and the Royal Birmingham Conservatoire I believe that I have a wide range of experience with all age ranges from beginners to beyond advanced. I focus on making the lessons as fun and engaging as possible whilst keeping on track to certain goals set by myself and the student throughout the year.
