My first lesson with Ben was great. He got straight to what I was interested in learning and even helped me figure out the chords to a song I've been wanting to play. Can't wait to learn more :)

From Robert Johnson to Eric Clapton, my knowledge of the blues will set you on the path.

About Matt
I am a professional jazz guitarist, singer-songwriter and teacher. I've been teaching music to students of all ages privately and in groups since 1998. After graduating from William Paterson University with a Bachelors Degree in Jazz Performance I spent 10 years in New York City working as a freelance musician and operating my own guitar studio. Since that time I have also been affiliated with several teaching studios, private schools, public schools and international schools. With a comprehensive background in Jazz, Classical and Rock guitar as well as electric bass, piano, music theory and voice; I am uniquely qualified to teach students of all ages and levels.

As a teacher, I think it’s most important to provide my students with a well rounded musical education that focuses on and adapts to what they are interested in lea
rning. Music lessons should be fun and I always keep that as my number one priority while also making sure that my students are getting a solid musical education that they will be happy with now and in the future. I pride myself on being patient, enthusiastic, empathetic and always prepared. I’m familiar with all of the most popular methods and have also created a large library of my own teaching materials.

During my career, I’ve been fortunate to have the opportunity to teach several different populations in the US, Greece and Germany. These diverse experiences have been extremely challenging and helped make me into a stronger teacher. From 2001-2003 I taught at the Center for Individualized Training and Education(CITE) which is a special needs school in Providence, RI. At CITE, I worked with students ages 6-17 and learned a lot about how to use music to bring joy to students who are not necessarily able to engage in a traditional musical education. In 2016, I created a music program in Athens, Greece for refugee children seeking asylum. I worked in conjunction with the School Box Organization to raise money for instruments, and taught guitar and hand drum classes at a school they had set up in a refugee squat. Although I'm no longer at the school, I am still helping to oversee the program and plan to do more of this work in the future. During my time in New York City, I worked with kids attending some of the most exclusive private schools in the country and dealt with the challenge of fitting music into an extremely demanding and high pressure educational environment. All of these experiences have helped shape my teaching philosophy as well as my views on life and music. I am currently teaching students in Boston as well as online lessons in Canada, Europe and the US.

Matt Macaulay has taught me guitar in his studio and at my home over the course of the last two years. He is a wonderful teacher, caring, thoughtful and thorough. I've had a lot of music teachers over the years but Matt stood out in his ability to provide organized and interesting teaching sessions which are well prepared for in advance and always entertaining. Matt is an amazing motivator and swiftly got me through the burdens of an early learning curve and into the fascinating world of music. I would warmly recommend him to anyone who is interested in learning - at any age - and is looking for a highly skilled and caring teacher!

I started learning guitar on my own. I got some CD’s. It got me started. However, I wasn’t progressing. I looked for an instructor in my area and Brian Gross came up in my search engine. I was very frustrated at first but Brian assured me it takes time and practice. It’s the little things that he teaches you that makes all the difference. If you listen to what he tells you and apply it you will amazed. Great musician, great teacher.

Brian is a wonderful, fun, and very supportive guitar teacher. He encourages students like me to practice and learn, and he gives very positive and tailored instruction. He allows his students to choose the style of music that they want to learn, and he offers the easiest and most straightforward way to learn it. He prepares his lessons very well, and it is always a joy to see his cheerful face. Even someone like me who sometimes fumbles around with the strings can feel comfortable in his great manner of teaching. I find that I have learned quite a bit in a very short amount of time, even with my busy work schedule. The guitar exercises that he gives us are fun to do and so effective. I highly recommend him as a guitar teacher, and I look forward to many more lessons with him.

About Oliver
I specialize in upright bass, jazz bass, funk bass, bass technique, and rhythm. I will inspire a positive attitude and good practice habits that will help any student succeed. I’ve extensively studied jazz, latin jazz, funk, rock music, hip hop, bluegrass, folk, and composition.

I can also teach guitar, piano, drums, and voice. As a mulit-instrumentalist, jamming with my students is a priority. Being able to play with other musicians is one of the best feelings you’ll ever experience. I’m happy to take you there!

Recently, I helped one of my bass players get a scholarship to go to Berklee Summer Camp to study music.

I am very excited to continue my teaching on TakeLessons. I look forward to helping new students to become the musician of their dreams.

I've been playing professionally in Chicago for five years where I play up
right for a classical chamber pop group called the Nine Worlds Ensemble and for a jazz group with Frank Catalano, a popular Chicago sax-man. I co-managed, played upright bass, and sang for an ambient-folk band, Sedgewick, based in Chicago. I've played upright bass in the Frank Catalano and Jimmy Chamberlin (drummer for Smashing Pumpkins) super group and Bowmanville.

I am currently dreaming up my own jazz-inspired project called the ohm trio. Working on my debut record under my solo name ohm. Be on the look out!

I am passionate about seeing students grow. I strive to be energetic yet patient when teaching to create a comfortable dynamic in my lessons that encourages excitement about music.
I have been playing guitar for 9 years, and have performed professionally with groups playing styles ranging from jazz, country, rock, blues, funk, and even musical theatre. I am capable of teaching beginners as well as intermediate students.
My lessons encourage a strong knowledge of fundamentals, so that a student can continue to develop years down the road with their acquired understanding of music, but I also am also careful to tailor lesson material according to a student's interests, personality, and natural learning methods.

About Chris
Are you interested in being able to confidently play lead and rhythm parts in a band? Want to learn to write songs? Want to learn to just strum along to your favorite records by yourself? I will teach you or your child all of the knowledge and tools needed to do whatever your dream is on your instrument. My aim is to help every student achieve their personal goals on their instrument within the context of a relaxed and patient environment that promotes a love of music!

I achieve this by:

1) Individualizing lesson plans so that each student stays engaged and learns in the style that is best for them as learners.

2) Ensuring that students learn BOTH how to play their instrument as well as the theory behind what they are playing. This creates a more well-rounded musician that is capable of problem solving on their instrument an
d being able to play in a variety of settings.

I have been playing music for over 10 years and teaching private lessons since 2014. My professional performance experience includes solo guitar gigs, rock band shows, musical theatre pit work, dance band playing, plus various gigs in Nashville, around the Eastern United States, and even in Scotland!

I graduated from Belmont University in the Spring of 2018 with a degree in Commercial Music, so I have had the "conservatory training" in regards to music theory and history, but before college I was largely a self taught player and am now a professionally performing musician here in Nashville.

Chris is patient and kind and teaches in a way that is clear and easy for even complete beginners to understand. When I get frustrated or discouraged in my practice, Chris is quick to try and pick me back up - he's a great motivator and he helps you remember to celebrate the small victories.

Learning with Chris is fun and engaging - he makes sure to incorporate music theory into the practice so that you are able to understand the why behind the "rules" of music. Chris is great at tailoring a learning plan to your specific goals as well as your baseline skills.

Simple practical methods for understanding and developing the fundamental skills needed to play songs you love and want to perform are the focus of each lesson. Teaching and performing music are what I'm passionate about. I have over twenty years of teaching experience with beginners and advanced students and have developed a curriculum that really works for all levels and styles while keeping things fun!

About Brian
I'm an experienced teacher with a background as a full time touring musician. I graduated from the University of Miami with a degree in Studio Music and Jazz Performance. The focus of my music career has always been playing original music with bands but teaching has always been something I've loved too.

I've studied both classical and jazz but my favorite thing to teach people is songs. I love learning new songs and writing practical simple charts that show how they work. Playing and singing together for the first time is something magical. It's an amazing feeling and helping people learn how to do it makes me happy.

I've been teaching music for over twenty years and look forward to sharing my experience and knowledge with new students.

What makes my lessons unique is rather than follow a strict curriculum where I just teach the student a bunch of songs they don’t want to learn. I cater to the interests and needs of the student. So if you want to write songs we will practice creative exercises, if you want to learn covers to play in a band or solo act we will learn the songs you want to learn. I will teach at your skill level and go at whatever pace you feel comfortable with so that I can maximize your learning experience!

About Chris
My name is Chris, I have been playing music for 10 years now! It is definitely my passion! I like all genres of music so you will not be judged by your interest. I am always continuing to learn new things myself and have definitely experienced the the journey from beginner to where I am now. So don’t be afraid to make mistakes that is all part of the learning process. I am willing to customize my lessons to your interests so if you want to learn something just ask! Do you want to unlock the mysteries of the guitar fretboard? Learn to play songs, improvise for the first time or explore new ideas for improvisation, study rhythmic grooves and learn to keep and feel the beat. Guitar can be a vehicle for your souls' deepest expression and also a form of practicing meditation. I began teaching before I attended Berklee College of Music in Boston, MA. After Berklee, I performed in several bands, toured Europe and worked as a sound engineer for both live and studio settings including several festivals in Costa Rica.. I can help guide you with creating your own sound recordings if desired. Whether you are just getting started or an experienced guitarist looking for some unique perspective I'd love to help you find a new groove! My favorite styles to play are rock, reggae, R&B and the blues but I also play funk, jazz and classical guitar. Drop me a line today!

About Jennifer
I began playing guitar at 12 years old. Before that I had dappled with the piano and always sang. There was something about the guitar that just drew me in! I always loved seeing the hands of guitar players and the sounds that would accompany those shapes.

Guitar is a very pattern based instrument. Once you learn the patterns and intentionally "program" those patterns into your playing, you eventually don't have to think about the theory or the pattern you can just play guitar effortlessly! But first it takes practice. Not just any kind of practice, perfect practice that is consistent. If you play a different fingering each time you play the same scale it can make learning the pattern harder. it's like you are always doing something different to get the same result! This slows the guitar learning process. I will give you effective le
arning practices to begin to accelerate your guitar playing skills! Everyone wants to express themselves with ease and practicing the patterns of guitar "language" is the key!

I began teaching at my hometown of Lake Ronkonkoma Long Island NY back in 2004. Since then, I have also studied at Berklee College of Music in Boston, MA. My dual major of Professional Music ( self directed major where I studied guitar, bass, piano, drum set, percussion, song writing and music business) and Music Production and Engineering.

I have played in professionally in several bands including my band Stealing Earth and the Ludmila Stefanikova Quintet touring Europe on electric guitar.

My Music Engineering degree has brought me to work in the studio and live venue settings. I am the former house sound engineer of the famous listening venue Lizard Lounge Cambridge, MA, working closely with resident artists, Club d'Elf, Dennis Brennan Band and MC Kabir. I've also had the pleasure of engineering in several studios including the studio of Susan Rogers who was Prince's sound engineer and one of my teachers. I have also engineered the band Kung Fu at Jungle Jam, Best Fest and Mike Love at Envision Festival in Costa Rica.

I specialize in Roots, Rock, Reggae, Afro-Cuban and R&B. I also can play funk, classical, jazz and slide guitar.

Whether you are just starting out, want to try a new style, want recording or song writing tips or just want to learn to have a zen guitar practice, I am looking forward to sharing my knowledge and experience!
