Have you ever wanted to play the mandolin, but never knew where to start? Do you have trouble learning correct technique, practice strategies, or struggle finding good repertoire to learn? Well, you've come to the right place!

I am a young and passionate teacher, committed to helping you improve on your instrument and achieve your goals! Many students comment on my patience, communication skills, and flexibility as a teacher.

In our first lesson, I will likely ask you to demonstrate your level to me, either by telling me or showing me what you know. I will use this to better understand your strengths and weaknesses and go from there. You can expect to come away from our first lesson with some learning materials, a plan for going forward, and an encouraging start to our journey as musicians together!

Some examples of things students can learn from me include: expanding repertoire, ear training, music reading, improvising, jamming, music theory, and technique.

About Alani

I am a multi-instrumentalist with a passion for bluegrass and old time music. I have been studying music since the age of 9, and fell in love with traditional music when I was 13. I love to perform and have had the opportunity to share the stage with many of my hero's. My interest in teaching st

Experienced in teaching mandolin for over 5 years. Experience in teaching other stringed instruments (guitar, bass, ukulele) for over 30 years.

About Geoff

I played on a toy piano when I was very young, learning a bit of sight reading from my Mother, while listening to classical, jazz, and rock music. When I was 12, I learned guitar and later took private piano lessons from a prominent Philadelphia instructor. After playing in a rock band in high sc

I totally enjoyed my class with Geoff. We immediately started my lesson with tuning the ukulele. Then we went over the cords and strumming. I have been researching on playing the ukulele and his explanation on the strumming was a lot better than the book. He is teaching me how to play by listening to the notes which is great because I would be able to play the Hawaiian music for my hula classes. In addition, his studio is only a 5 minute drive from my house, which means I don’t have to deal with traffic.

You decide what we learn--we can start with learning to read and play from a book for steady, foreseeable progress and goals, or simply start with the chords of your favorite songs from the radio--we can even learn tab--or all three! In our first lesson, we will discuss what your personal goals are for the mandolin and formulate a plan for your individual success, based on the type of music YOU want to learn.

Students describe me as patient, fun, and encouraging, and as your mandolin teacher, you can expect me to work with you from where you are, and with subjects and curriculum that match what you are interested in learning. *Please check my availability before signing up, as my time slots are quickly filling up!* I look forward to meeting you! Rachel is a terrific violin teacher. My daughter is 13 and she starting taking violin lessons last year and now she has progressed so much from when she just begun. Rachel is really kind, patient, and funny. I highly recommend Rachel for violin lessons!!

My two daughters, 13 and 16, have been taking lessons from Rachel for about a year now. They were beginning and intermediate levels. Both of them have enjoyed working with Rachel. She has kept lessons fun and engaging and we have seen a lot of progress. My daughters love celtic fiddle songs and Rachel has helped them play more on pitch and taught them some neat techniques. Rachel has also been very patient with our scheduling changes and is a great communicator.
Cindy
Rachel is a terrific and inspiring fiddle teacher. Lessons were focused on achieving my goals (which I did) but lots of fun too. Rachel is great at suggesting a number of approaches to improving your skills and also suggested some great new fiddle tunes! I highly recommend Rachel for fiddle lessons.

I have 20 years of music experience and started playing mandolin about 5 years ago. My goal is to tailor my lessons towards your desires - whether that be to learn music theory fundamentals, or just be able to play your favorite songs. I'll organize our lessons to achieve whatever these goals are.
One of my top priorities in teaching music is to keep you from getting bored. My hope is that very early on, we'll start working on songs that you are interested in playing, even if we need to simplify them a bit to get started. I find that if you can play what you love early on, then your interest in working hard to improve will persist!

About Alexander

I'm excited to start working with students interested in exploring music and guitar (or mandolin!)! Nothing brings greater joy to me than music, so I hope to help others achieve that same experience of getting to recreate the music that you love, or perhaps create your own. My teaching pulls from

"I have been playing the mandolin for about four years now and have had several different teachers, of which Marc is by far the best one I have had. I wish I had started with him. Marc is very patient and works with you to bring out your best effort. He challenges me with interesting music to play, helps me to understand the piece and shows me different ways to finger the notes. When I started with Marc two months ago I was playing hornpipes and dances and now I've moved up to Bach and Vivaldi. Marc is also an accomplished instrument maker."

"Damien explains the concept very well and asks questions to find out how much I already know. He tailors the classes to my abilities (I used to play piano and guitar) and interests. I am inspired to practise the techniques so I can play the music I chose. Just my third lesson and Damien is already introducing “improvisation” and that I was ready as long as I practise my scales. Being taught by Damien is exhilarating. Very blessed."
