I have been recording & performing blues music since late 2004, & in that time I've acquired a lot of knowledge on the nuances involved in making blues music truly sing on the guitar. We will cover rhythm guitar approaches, chord voicing, when to play (& not to play), developing leads, & working/blending as an ensemble member of a blues band.

In a blues rock band we play around town monthly. Took many classes on blues at musicians institute. Was taught by Keith Wyatt at musicians institute.

For blues guitar the first thing I do when I meet a student is to interview the student and find out why they want to learn how to play the guitar and what are some of their goals. Then I find out what style of music they would like to learn. I have the student come up with ten songs they would like to learn. I take this information and structure future guitar lessons around the essential elements of these songs. I design each lesson to teach the specific skills required to learn those songs. I create an organized binder guitar workbook and having a teaching degree I create all of the lessons to meet each students individual needs that include lessons on theory, technique, chords, rhythm, scales, arpeggios, songs, song form, and exercises etc. I use a color coded method to teach scales, chords and theory that I created that help students not only understand scales but also they are able to see visually where chords come from. I have developed a standardized, systematic approach to guitar instruction based on the belt system used by traditional martial arts. As students progress through the ranks, they are awarded different color “belts”. Beginners are white belts. The next level is yellow belt. Orange is next followed by red, purple, blue, and finally a black belt! I use pre existing text books so that the learning material is organized and easily accessible. I have had great success with my methods and my system makes the learning a lot more fun. I can also customize lessons for intermediate to advanced students who need to focus on certain key areas and can also prepare students for college entrance auditions. Group classes are available in special subject such as theory, note reading and advanced harmonic and melodic concepts.
