I enjoy passing on wisdom gained from years of playing in professional bands and studying music to people of all ages. I maintain a relaxed, anxiety-free teaching style that is focused on the individual goals of each student, no matter what their level of experience and stylistic preferences might be. You'll be playing fun songs right away, learn how to jam with anyone, and you'll have a blast!

I cannot learn something without wanting to immediately begin sharing what I know. That's what inspired me to begin teaching, and it continues to drive me today.

My credo is, "Take fun seriously." There is a reason we say that we "play" music; it is meant to be entertaining, for the listener and the performer. I know you want to learn to play an instrument so that you have one more pleasure in your life, and not to take up a new profession. But I also assume the highest potential in my students. If something is worth learning, it's worth learning well. My goal is for people to say to each other, "There seem to be a lot of good guitarists coming out of the Madison area. What's in the water?" My bottom line: Whatever your personal objectives, it is my job to discover them and help you meet them, whether you're interested performing at the campfire or the concert hall.

I teach technique as it relates medically to our physiology in an attempt to make your playing effortless so your musicality comes through unincombered by technical challenges. The repertoire my students work on is their choice which, guided by myself, makes their musical journey unique.

I studied jazz guitar with Derek DiCenzo at Ohio State University, and have performed extensively in the genres of rock, blues, country, and classical music.

Since 1998, I have taught as many as forty private students per week, many of whom have gone on to pursue the instrument through college, conservatory, and performance.
