Transcend the instrument and be able to play with anything. Learn your favorite tunes by ear and on the guitar. That is what I focus on. From beginning rudiments all the way through completely breaking down and conceptualizing the fretboard.
I've been playing for 20 years and have studied jazz at Peabody Conservatory and Berklee College of Music. However, I have played in bluegrass, rock, funk, hip hop and klezmer bands, as well.
I try to create an individual approach for each student because every person learns uniquely. I work with people on skills that apply to music at large, as well as the guitar 🎸. My goal is to help a student learn how to learn on their own, and provide the tools to do so.

Hello there! My name is Tyler and I would love to teach you or your child how to play the guitar.
I purchased my first guitar when I was 8 years old and was so excited to learn how to play. I took my first lesson a year later, but was disappointed. I didn't find it fun and therefore didn't want to practice. I wanted to play songs, but all the instructor wanted me to do was learn basic theory. After not making progress... I stopped the lessons. The next year I tried a different instructor, but still did not learn much. The issue for me was playing guitar wasn't fun for me at this point. And that is the most important thing in my opinion if you are going to dedicate yourself to learning to play. A few years later... I discovered punk rock music and online guitar tabs. Suddenly, I was able to look up on my own how to play songs that I was actually excited to play. This changed everything. I started to practice daily. Within a few more years... I could handle almost any basic chord ...

For blues guitar the first thing I do when I meet a student is to interview the student and find out why they want to learn how to play the guitar and what are some of their goals. Then I find out what style of music they would like to learn. I have the student come up with ten songs they would like to learn. I take this information and structure future guitar lessons around the essential elements of these songs. I design each lesson to teach the specific skills required to learn those songs. I create an organized binder guitar workbook and having a teaching degree I create all of the lessons to meet each students individual needs that include lessons on theory, technique, chords, rhythm, scales, arpeggios, songs, song form, and exercises etc. I use a color coded method to teach scales, chords and theory that I created that help students not only understand scales but also they are able to see visually where chords come from. I break down each song into easy digestible parts so ...

Ready to get started with learning blues chord progressions? Here's an intro by Austin, TX guitar teacher Samuel B... In order to properly respect and understand both the theory and structure of ANY kind of American music, it's essential to be able to play the blues. Although the form is said (by some scholars) to have originated in Africa within the story-telling traditions of village griots (historians/poets/musicians who would play a five-stringed instrument known as the halam, which …
