BA Guitar Performance from Berklee College of Music

Online Blues Guitar Teacher
I am a recent Berklee College of Music graduate living in Chicago. At Berklee, I was the first rock/metal guitarist to receive the "Jimi Hendrix Award." This award is given to the best guitarist at the school. I've played and studied many styles of music ranging from classical, traditional, blues, country, rock, and metal.
Besides teaching, I have a passion for songwriting and performance. Here in Chicago, I am currently playing with various bands and writing my own music. My teaching style is very "goal-oriented," and I will teach students to set short-term goals, medium goals, and then demonstrate to them how reaching the short and medium-term goals leads to accomplishing long-term goals. I envision teaching much like my teachings at Berklee where once my lesson was finished, I only wanted to go home and learn more. If you want to learn multiple styles from someone who is truly passionate about the instrument, I'm your guy!
About Michael
Hello, my name is Michael! I have been playing guitar since I was 10-years old. Aside from being a teacher, performer, and songwriter, I would define myself as a "guitar nerd" because I love every aspect of playing. I still practice every day and have an insatiable hunger for new opportunities to pl

Over the past 12 years, we've given over 3,000,000 lessons to happy customers around the world.

Long format:
I've had a guitar sitting around my flat for about two years. The only thing I could do, other than looking at it, was playing three open chords very very very badly. And I just thought that playing music wasn't for me and that I didn't have the mind for it.
Because I am stuck at home for the quarantine, I decided to check if maybe I could do something productive with my time and decided to give taking some guitar lessons a try.
Doing research online for someone willing to teach me remotely, I found Nick, and I am thrilled I did.
We have now had only about 6-7 lessons, but he has ignited in me a passion for learning the guitar and also made me believe I can.
He has a style that will accommodate and inspire any sort of student.
In my case, I want to learn the blues. But because I knew nothing about guitar playing, I need someone that can take me through the basics in a structured way where things build on each other. Nick did just that.
The guy is a proper performing musician with a great personality and loads of experience under his belt.
I have been inspired and made confident by his way of teaching, and I want to study with him for years to come."

I was self-teaching for about a year before I came to Ahmad. It worked out just fine. I learned something. But I started to get confused at a point where I don't know how to move forward. I like a very specific group of guitarist (mostly Japanese fingerstyle players). And I wanted to learn how to master songs from those guitarist. And there is no such website or book that would teach me how to do that. Most of the guitar books or websites either give out general informations or put all information together as a mess.
Finally I decided to find a teacher. I found the lesson with Ahmad pretty effective. He is an experienced teacher who knows what you need to learn in order to achieve your goal. He has plenty of handouts that really helps me practice. The most important thing I learned from him is the big picture of guitar learning. For example, I learned the connection between scales and chords, why/how to improvise with these, how to go from there to other relevant things, etc.
When I look back over a year, I realize I have wasted some much time and effort trying to teach myself and wish it could have similar outcome as having a good teacher. Studying with Ahmad saves me so much time and effort (because it's actually easier!)"

Ready to learn to play blues guitar? This lesson from guitar teacher James W. is the perfect place to start... What is a shuffle, anyway? A shuffle is a rhythm of 8th notes played in triplets, essentially playing 3/4 time over a 4/4 beat to make the music swing. Blues, pop, jazz, and rock musicians all use the shuffle. The blues shuffle is a fun pattern that is simple to absorb into your playing across many genres of music. Think of pop, rock, big band, and blues as being a part of the s …

Ready to get started with learning blues chord progressions? Here's an intro by Austin, TX guitar teacher Samuel B... In order to properly respect and understand both the theory and structure of ANY kind of American music, it's essential to be able to play the blues. Although the form is said (by some scholars) to have originated in Africa within the story-telling traditions of village griots (historians/poets/musicians who would play a five-stringed instrument known as the halam, which …

If you're familiar with blues chords and ready to start trying your hand at some riffs, this exercise from guitar teacher Samuel B. will help you get the ball rolling... As an instructor (and blues guitar afficionado), I'm keen on you developing a working knowledge of the blues. The blues is the musicological basis of all recognizable forms of American music (gospel, contemporary country, soul, rhythm & blues, bluegrass, early rock n roll, the list goes on). Therefore, said knowledge will imp …
