About Diego
Diego is one of Chicago's most sought-after Spanish, Flamenco, Classical, and Latin guitar instructors and a master guitarist. He has taught over 4000 private lessons and has given lectures and workshops in over 300 universities, elementary schools, and music schools, both nationally and internationally.

He graduated with highest honors in flamenco guitar performance from the Fundacion Cristina Heeren de Arte Flamenco (Seville, Spain). He also holds a Bachelor of Science in Research Psychology and focuses on applying the psychology of learning, skill acquisition, and expertise to learning guitar. With this knowledge, Diego is able to help students achieve their goals quickly with utmost precision and effectiveness.

WHAT SHOULD YOU EXPECT FROM PRIVATE LESSONS?

The very first things we'll learn to do in our private lesson wil
l be to RELAX, BE PATIENT, and HAVE FUN. Yes, mastering (or even just getting decent at) the guitar takes time and dedicated work, but it should NEVER...BE...RUSHED. Ironically, by relaxing and taking it slow, you'll excel rather quickly and, more importantly, CORRECTLY.

Lessons are based on time-tested methods in guitar pedagogy as well as on up-to-date scientific research in the neurological and psychological processes of skill acquisition and expertise. Key concepts you will learn to incorporate into your practice are "deliberate practice," "spaced practice," "interleaved practice," "performance practice," "mental practice," "conceptual practice," and more. My goal, as a teacher, is to help students learn to practice effectively and efficiently in order to develop the neurological pathways necessary to form, improve, and maintain high-level, musical skills.

CAN ANYONE LEARN GUITAR?

Absolutely! I accept students over 6 years old and at any experience level. Whether you've never touched a guitar before our first lesson, have been playing for a few years, or have your Master's degree in guitar performance, I can and will help you achieve your goals (so long as you do your homework).

WHAT KIND OF GUITAR DO YOU NEED?

For flamenco or classical lessons, you will need a nylon-string guitar (e.g., classical or flamenco), NOT a steel string guitar. If you don't own a nylon-string guitar, you can certainly rent one, but it must be available to you for home practice AT LEAST 6 days/week. For general guitar (with a pick), either a nylon-string or steel-string guitar is fine; however, beginners should use nylon-string guitars.

CAN YOU GUARANTEE RESULTS?

YES! If you follow my instruction and practice plan, I can certainly guarantee results!

Consistent and correct practice are the keys to success. The more consistent you are and the more correctly you practice, the sooner you'll reach your goals. This requires you to commit to practicing 6 days/week for an absolute minimum of 20 minutes/day up to a maximum of 3.5 hours/day; NO EXCEPTIONS! Again, you also MUST be practicing CORRECTLY. I'll show you how, but if you aren't practicing this way and are not consistent with your practice plan, I cannot guarantee results.

Greatly appreciated the pointers on how to clean up the picado technique first in order to progress later on to some falsetas. Excellent session! Thanks Diego.

I've been playing flamenco guitar for 7 years & have performed hundreds of classical pieces for different events, ranging from concert halls to dinner parties to receptions for big businesses.

About Alex
Hey, my name is Alex. I'm a multi-instrumentalist (guitar, bass, keyboards, voice, drums, flute, etc.), composer, performer, recording artist, arranger/orchestrator/transcriber, recording engineer/producer & music educator.

I graduated from the University of St. Thomas "Cum Laude" in 2011 with a Bachelor's Degree in Guitar Performance, with minors in Music Production & Composition. While attending St. Thomas I served as the Music Theory tutor, as well as the live sound/stage/light/recording technician for student & faculty recitals.

I have been playing professionally & teaching for over a decade. My passion for music is something that I love to share with anyone else who feels inclined to make music. My goal is to share the skills & knowledge I've acquired throughout my experiences with those willing to learn & dedicate themselves
to the craft of making music.

*** Lesson Details ***
I am experienced in most major genres of music: classical, jazz, blues, rock, funk, folk, metal, acoustic fingerstyle/slap, instrumental rock, "shred," pop, world music, electronica, etc. & feel comfortable conveying the techniques, approaches & idioms to a student by breaking them down into digestible components, while making these new ideas relatable to material they are already familiar with.

In the end, I want the student to learn what they're most interested in learning. I'm here to answer any questions they may have & with my experiences, I feel confident that I will be able to either answer these questions or point them in the right direction. Some topics covered:

Scales/modes
Ear training
Instrument-specific techniques (ie bending, tapping, sweep picking, etc.)
Songwriting & Composition
Arranging & Orchestrating
Sight-reading
Improvisation
Chordal theory & how to read charts
Practice routines & approaches
Instrument maintenance
Instrument-based gear (guitars, amplifiers, effects, picks, slides, capos, etc.)

The student will learn at the pace they set for themselves & can only get out of it the amount of effort they put forth. I expect my students to practice on a regular basis (however brief each session may be). Consistency is key for progress to be made, & if they hold up their end of the bargain, the payoffs will be quite substantial!

*** Studio Equipment ***
Practice amplifier, tuner, music stand(s), guitar picks & cables.

*** Travel Equipment ***
I can provide guitar neck paper. I expect the students to have their own instrument & any materials they may need to achieve the goals they've set for themselves (such as a weekly notebook).

*** Specialties ***
Progressive rock, classic rock, blues, jazz, funk, disco, classical, acoustic fingerstyle/slap, flamenco guitar; music theory, sight-reading, composition, songwriting, film scoring, music production.

I studied flamenco guitar for 8 years under the instruction of Tomas de Utrera, NIco Angel and Rodrego Carteras. It is an expressive, percussive style of classical guitar that derives from Spanish and gypsy folk music.

About Ayme
Music can be as simple or as intricate as you want to make it. I will to teach you how to make the most of whatever knowledge and skill you have and to have fun while you do it. My tastes are all across the board, rock and roll, country, metal, opera, I love it all. So, let me know what you are into and we can go from there.
I started playing guitar about 20 years ago and have fronted several bands that have played all over Chicago and beyond. Although I have studied ethnomusicology, theory, and composition in college, I owe my greatest debt to the Chicago musicians who inspired and later taught me. I began my private studies in flamenco guitar with Tomas de Utrera, Kelan Phil Cohran voice and theory, Hamid Drake instructed me on hand drumming, and from Rockin' Johnny Burgin I learned about the soul of blues guitar. Music is my first
love, and continues to be an endless fascination for me.

*** Lesson Details ***
I believe the pursuit of musical knowledge and skill should be a fun adventure and therefore, in each and every lesson with me I hope that there is laughter. I like to start off finding out what you are interested in learning, then I will create a curriculum based on those interests. I like to get students going right away playing songs so they don't get bored. By the end of three months you should have a nice little repertoire of 6 or so songs in different keys and a beginning knowledge of your instrument and by six months we will have moved into scales, solos and a bit of theory based on your progression.

*** Studio Equipment ***
Living room, street parking. I have plenty of guitars, amps, pedals and tuners here. I also have audio recording software so we can record your lesson.

*** Travel Equipment ***
I have guitar and tuner, student should also have a guitar.

*** Specialties ***
I would say I am best a teaching rock and blues guitar. I have also studied theory and flamenco guitar and would be able to teach beginners.

I combine the styles of music that you prefer with some kind of method book for reading and theory. No purchasing of music is required. Normal lessons start with the previously assigned material, determining what we need to work on, new material, and ending with things to do at home.

About Sean
Hi! I'm Sean. I love music and one of my goals in life is to share my love of music with everyone else, in a number of different ways. I am an active freelance composer, guitarist, and teacher in Baltimore City, and I'm currently seeking an MM in Composition at Peabody. I play a wide range of styles - fingerstyle, classical, rock, jazz, metal, and just about everything in between!

I strive to have all of my students become balanced musicians. If reading or theory is a soft spot, we'll apply your strengths and catch up quickly. I also think that being interested in the music that you're playing is incredibly important when learning an instrument. I try to incorporate your favorite styles of music to learn techniques that will benefit you to not only become what you want to be as a musician, but have the skill to do or play whatever you
want if your preferences change. As far as music teachers go, I'd like to think of myself as pretty laid back. I understand that most people have lives outside of music, so we'll go at a pace that is most comfortable for you.

Great first lesson. High hopes for follow lessons.

I self-taught myself guitar over 35 years ago; mostly forgotten. Sean began with establishing goals that would meet my goals. The feedback to me during the lessons was focused and delivered in a friendly manner. Progression was enhanced due to his manner and his approach to teaching. While this was the first lesson, I am looking forward to future lessons.

I teach a wide range of musical styles from rock, blues, classical, flamenco, and acoustic. I also tailor my lesson to the individual student and take into consideration that music should be fun and so should the learning process. Together, we will set you short and intermediate goals and then develop a plan to help you reach them. I believe that clear, definable goals are a very important component of learning an instrument because the help keep the student focused and motivated.

About Craig
I have played guitar for over 40 years and have played professionally for many years. I love the guitar and the wide range of music that it is capable of. I have a great deal of enthusiasm for teaching and am passionate about helping each and every student reach their potential.

My guitar lessons are unique because I teach technical guitar skills by way of teaching classic guitar songs. Whether you are interested in learning Classic Rock, Spanish Guitar, or today's hits, you will take away not only a repertoire of your favorite songs, but the skills needed to sightread new songs on your own. For beginner students, we will work to identity songs that are both of interest to you and meet the needs to teach you pertinent skills. For intermediate to advanced students, we will work through songs you wish to learn while working through other genres to increase your musical exposure. Overall, my lessons are driven by your interests while subtlety incorporating the proper technical skills.

About MIlton
Hi! I am an Master in Business Administration from University of Maryland but have been playing guitar for more than 15 years. For 10 years I was under the instruction of Galo Larrea, renowned Ecuador guitarist, and then performed with him. I enjoy all sorts of rhythms including classical, flamenco, jazz, blues, and rock. I make my lessons interactive by teaching the student different techniques while playing the songs the student want to learn, but always including music theory so the student know what he is doing and introducing new styles expanding the repertoire.

Are you looking for a great guitar teacher who will push you to be your best self? Students who take lessons with me are given specialized curriculums to suit their personal guitar goals and make sure they get the most out of their money. Lessons with me are slightly different because of my background. I started out playing classical guitar and this has shaped my guitar learning experiences, which in turn changed the way I teach. I come at things from a musical theory standpoint, with precision and a focus on improvement through better technique and a solid foundation in the basics. Send me a message and we can start learning together!

About Brendon
I have been playing guitar for a total of 8 years, and teaching students for 2 years. In that time I have grown so much as a player and realized an innate ability to get across the best techniques for guitar, reading music and the other facets of music theory.

I started teaching at a professional music school based out of Wesley Chapel called Studio 28. After a while I felt that I had more room to grow as a private teacher and began to find private students. what I lack in experience I make up for in dedication and a constant hunger to learn the best tactics for teaching effectively.

if you are looking for a great modern teacher with new age teaching techniques, give me a try and I promise you wont be disappointed!
