Blues is the heart and soul of American music. Every note sings with feeling and attitude. Make your guitar become your voice through diverse string bending and vibrato techniques, open tunings, four note chord voicings, voice leading, learn to play independent harmonies using fingerstyle or hybrid picking. Study all of the great blues forms, learn to improvise as well as compose. All of my students will learn the most important skill any musician can possess- the ability to listen to other musicians in a jam session and compliment their ideas.

I am also a multi-instrumentalist. Piano was my first instrument before I learned how to play the guitar, and I believe this has helped me in my approach to understanding music.
I believe having this broad perspective enables me to teach ANY student, and make them the best musician they can be.
I am here to demystify the music world--with my teaching methods any student can accomplish their dreams! First, we will start with simple techniques to embark on your musical journey and work our way towards our lofty musical goals together.
Learning guitar requires a lot of patience and a good attitude. I focus on fundamental exercises to help any beginner guitar player reach an intermediate level. I cater my lessons to learn tunes that my students care about and love. I let them guide the work!
I can also teach guitar, piano, drums, and voice. As a mulit-instrumentalist, jamming with my students is a priority. Being able to play with other musicians is one of the best feelings you’ll ever experience. I’m happy to take you there!
Recently, I helped one of my bass players get a scholarship to go to Berklee Summer Camp to study music.
I am very excited to continue my teaching on TakeLessons. I look forward to helping new students to become the musician of their dreams.
I've been playing professionally in Chicago for five years. I am currently

Max has been playing music his whole life, and teaching since 2006. Although recent students have been accepted into music programs around the country, including NYU, Peabody, Indiana, Maryland, and Miami, he loves to work with students of all ages, skill-levels, and ambitions. Max holds a BA in Music: Vocal Performance, but also teaches and plays guitar, bass, brass, and keys. He also regularly works with students on instruments that he doesn't personally play, to coach theory and musicality. Each lesson is individually tailored to the student, since everyone learns differently and has different goals (which frequently change!). Consequently, method books are only used as necessary. Max's goal is to help unlock every student's musical potential and path to personal expression!
Max also performs around the country as a professional singer and session musician, in addition to running a mobile recording business. He also composes music for film. Sharing music with others is his
Most importantly, Max teaches through questions, in the spirit of "teach a man to fish...." This allows students
Outside of teaching, Max actively performs as a classical/early music singer, and does regular session work on vocals, bass, guitar, trumpet, and keys. He also composes for film, and runs a mobile recording business specializing in classical, acoustic, and jazz. His work has taken him both around the country and overseas.

Pro musician/recording artist, over 15 years teaching experience. I MAKE LEARNING TO PLAY FUN. I call my teaching style "50-50" Because 50% percent is what you want and 50% is what you need. You'll learn by working towards your goals using music that you enjoy (Rock/Blues/Country/Jazz/etc)
What do you enjoy about the work you do?
Spreading music - playing music - listening and helping others play...What's not to like?!?! It's totally inspiring. I think my favorite thing is when students proudly play music that they've composed. Even my bad days are good!
I have been playing and recording professionally for 30+ years, to include 21+ years in the US Navy Music Program/Navy Band where I performed in ~60 countries world wide. I hold a bachelor's and master's degree in Music Theory/Composition and Jazz Studies, and I studied with jazz guitar legend Jimmy Bruno. I have taught guitar privately, at the community college level, and have five years experience teaching guitar, jazz improvisation, jazz combos, contemporary music ensemble (rock/top 40), and big band jazz ensembles at the Armed Forces School of Music and Naval School of Music. Additionally, my reading/sight-reading skills are outstanding, and I have many musicals under my belt in the pit orchestra. I have the prerequisite skill to teach you how to play any style, read musical notation, and studio record.
efficiently. My career has also seen its share of achievements; while working as a Navy Musician, I became one of only 25 Bandmasters/commissioned officers in the Navy Music Program Navy-wide. Furthermore, my concurrent work throughout my career as a private, freelance musician has yielded two recordings as a leader, and my becoming an Endorsement Artist for Heritage Guitars in 2001.
During my time working at the Armed Forces School of Music, as Jazz Guitar, Jazz Improvisation, Jazz Combo, and Jazz Big Band instructor, I learned a great deal and achieved a number of goals. One of my highest achievements was earning the Master
Training Specialist designation for excep
which in turn led to the best trained Navy Musicians graduating from the Armed Forces School of Music during my tenure. In my recent capacity as Director, Navy Band Great Lakes, I was able to significantly expand my skill-set.
My responsibilities for programming music and managing travel for a concert band, parade band, ceremonial band, Dixieland band, jazz ensemble, jazz combo, brass quintet, woodwind quintet, and a blues band caused me to develop my musical knowledge across all genres, as well as my ability to manage large sums of money. I've
been stationed here since 2014, and I work regularly as a jazz guitar leader and sideman on the Chicago gig scene. Upon my retirement from the Navy Music Program in 2018, I will remain in Chicago and devote the full entirety of my efforts to performance, pedagogy, and recording as a private citizen-musician.
I have held a SECRET clearance for 21+ years. That is the most intense background check anyone can get, which is why I passed on the Take Lessons background check.
Currently available for tours, lessons, recording, and live performances.

I have over 25 years professional performance and recording experience playing rock and heavy metal. I am currently signed to a label here in Baltimore and am also an endorsed artist for AMT Technologies, endorsing their "Japanese Girl" Wah pedal. My main focus is hard rock and heavy metal techniques but I can also teach basic beginner guitar and intermediate level guitar.
I teach non traditionally and hone in on a students aptitude to build a unique learning experience that will keep the student motivated to continue with guitar. I focus mainly on techniques and guitar basics such as right hand techniques and chord positioning. I also can help a student who may have some experience with the guitar but can't quite get to the next level. I am able to show you how to count beats, work on rhythm, ear training reading tablature, and I will also teach guitar maintenance and care of the instrument. I consider my teaching style to be a shortcut through the "scary" music theory jargon and ...
