Transcend the instrument and be able to play with anything. Learn your favorite tunes by ear and on the guitar. That is what I focus on. From beginning rudiments all the way through completely breaking down and conceptualizing the fretboard.
I've been playing for 20 years and have studied jazz at Peabody Conservatory and Berklee College of Music. However, I have played in bluegrass, rock, funk, hip hop and klezmer bands, as well.
I try to create an individual approach for each student because every person learns uniquely. I work with people on skills that apply to music at large, as well as the guitar 🎸. My goal is to help a student learn how to learn on their own, and provide the tools to do so.

Blues is the heart and soul of American music. Every note sings with feeling and attitude. Make your guitar become your voice through diverse string bending and vibrato techniques, open tunings, four note chord voicings, voice leading, learn to play independent harmonies using fingerstyle or hybrid picking. Study all of the great blues forms, learn to improvise as well as compose. All of my students will learn the most important skill any musician can possess- the ability to listen to other musicians in a jam session and compliment their ideas.
About Jason
Hi, I'm Jason. I've been teaching and performing as a full time career for 23 years. During that time, I've developed a diverse, flexible approach to teaching that is customized to the needs and interests of each of my students. I'll help you set up musical goals, and then use your preferred lea

Highly recommend working with Jason as he is patient and wants you to become a strong musician instead of learning a few songs really well. Also, he is upbeat and provides good feedback so you continue to develop and grow.

Blues is a challenge for a lot of people, including very educated musicians. Blues is in a key, or more correctly, method of changing keys, that is unique. Blues is also the basis for really understanding rock music theory. Thankfully, one day reading Schoenberg's "Regions of Harmony," I figured out how to explain it to other people.
About Scotty
I am an established performer having played in such bands as BigDamnCrazyWeight, Bring Back Dad and most recently, guitarist for Guadalupe Blue. I studied Music Theory at New Mexico State University with the amazing Dr. Don Hardisty and Composition with Dr. Warner Hutchison. I am passionate about m

Scotty is a excellent teacher.
I've been learning bass from him and he is very knowledgeable in everything from the history of music, theory, techniques and much more.
I've been taking lessons from Scotty for over a year and have learned a lot about theory, form, and style. Had taken lessons from other instructors and felt that I should had been further along after 1 year. One hour lesson time is perfect for me and I always leave wishing I had more time.
Great teacher takes time to cover theory of music, and does hour lessons unlike most teachers in town who do 30min lessons. Have taken lessons from other teachers in the past, and all they do is teach you songs without explaining the reasoning behind it. Have learned more in the last few months then I’ve learn in years with other teachers.

I try to have fun and always be encouraging. I know how frustrating it can be in the beginning. I know quite a few different styles and also like to help others write their own songs once they start to get the hang of it. I have worked with people of all age groups but mostly teen and pre-teen. I look forward to helping you have fun learning guitar!!

Ready to learn to play blues guitar? This lesson from guitar teacher James W. is the perfect place to start... What is a shuffle, anyway? A shuffle is a rhythm of 8th notes played in triplets, essentially playing 3/4 time over a 4/4 beat to make the music swing. Blues, pop, jazz, and rock musicians all use the shuffle. The blues shuffle is a fun pattern that is simple to absorb into your playing across many genres of music. Think of pop, rock, big band, and blues as being a part of the s …
